The Kings Arms is in the charming village that surrounds Montacute House. It sits just across from the 12th century church. It has 15 en suite rooms, a bar and restaurant. The lounge area is comfortable and very nicely decorated. The staff were very pleasant, and our room was very nice and overlooked their large beer garden. The bath was small, with a shower and nice fluffy towels. There was a TV and tea kettle in the room. We went to the lounge for drinks before dinner and enjoyed them while using the free WiFi. The staff were pleasant and attentive, and the lounge area is set up so you seem almost alone even with many other guests are about. There are several dining areas, all very nice. The tables are set so you can have an intimate dinner. The menu was varied and the food we had was exceptional. We started with the cheese plate. 4 local cheeses, all very good and a wonderful fruit chutney (£9). For mains, I had the lamb ribs, which were delicious (£20), and my wife had the fillet of hake (£12), also very nice. I had a glass of Argentine Malbec that was very good (£18/ bottle, £6.50 for a 250ml pour). My desert was a trio of their very good home made ice creams (£5).

The service is friendly and they are doing a fantastic job following social distance guidelines. Had a wonderful lunch in the garden which is spacious and beautiful. We ordered a ploughmans lunch (highly recommend) and fish n chips for the kids. Portions are perfect and food is just wonderful. Go immediately!!

We stayed the night here and also had dinner. A nice touch was the owner ringing us the night before to check if we wished to dine because they were nearly fully booked. The rooms were really large and very well decorated, almost to malmaison standards but with a warmer feel. The food was very nice. Traditional but with a European twist - very nice lamb and steaks were had, along with a bottle of champagne to celebrate a friend's birthday. The owner came and told us all about the specials and the staff were attentive and friendly. Our favourite moment was when coffees arrived and we were presented with a 'coffee garnish' which was a small mousse type thing! I am dying to have an excuse to go back to Yeovil so I can take someone to stay here. Very much recommended.

You'd have thought being just up the hill from one of the biggest employers in the area with over 3000 employees it would be heaving. The last time I eat here was at a leaving do - I know I was a little bit late and you had my pre-order, but was there any reason why you had to cook it and then leave it on the hot-counter for me until I arrived? Nothing worse than dried, over-cooked salmon and prawn risotto. My theory is the chef is used to doing large banquets (judging by all the pictures of himself all over the restaurant) and thinks he's Ramsey. Hot tip - people who are number one rarely need to shout about it, especially in the restaurant trade. I fear the chef may have lost any degree of humility which would allow him to improve. Trying to be positive, the Ciabattas and salads are fine, but then you've got to be pretty special to mess that sort of food up.
