We have just stayed here after reading reviews and the inn's website. Very much a mixed experience. The good points were
..Well priced out-of-season accommodation
Very good, reasonably priced food. We were late arriving but food was provided after I phoned ahead. The breakfasts were as good as I have had anywhere with really tasty coffee.
Good Badger beers, slightly on the high side of averagely priced. The mulled wine was pretty good as well.
Good state of repair throughout
Very comfy bed.
The hot so hot and the cold so cold in the en suite. Powerful enough shower.
So far, so good. However
CH radiator badly in need of bleeding over half cold. Luckily we happened to have a bleeding key, which was lucky given the subzero temperatures outside!
PET testing out of date, which is a potential safety hazard.
Kettle plugged into a 4-gang extension lead placed on dressing table, which was anothe rpotential safety hazard, especially if someone inadvertently overfilled the kettle.
A light over the bedroom mirror was falling to pieces and didn't work (obviously).
No double glazing.
Cobwebs and dust in evidence everywhere.
Vegetarians almost uncatered for cheese and one item on the main menu
Wifi advertised but it doesn't reach the bedrooms or, I discovered, the bar.
Very quiet, slightly weird bar, a touch of An American Werewolf in London. It desperately needed music.
Mucky looking unappetising slice of orange in orange juice.
A confusing management structure which seemed to change from day to day or even more frequently. More than the number of customers really warranted.
We got the distinct impression that being out of season less effort was being made. So an in season visit might be different. Based on our experience, I am not sure if we will go back or not. read more
