We forgot candles for the birthday cake and Angus went to the shops to get us candles. The food they served was great and there was lots to spare. Definitely recommend for a private function. We also came back for Sunday lunch. The place was packed and the food was good.

There certainly were NO negatives. On entering we were met by a charming young lady with a fantastic smile. We had reserved a table but our friends had not arrived. So a drink, meanwhile, was called for. Nice selection of real ales, my kind of pub. Unlike many pub/restaurants, this pub had an area where you could have a drink. Also, in the warmer months there is plenty of seating outside. When our friends arrived we were shown to our table. Given more than ample time to choose from the menu. In fact the time taken was our fault. When two women haven't seen each other for 20 years, need I say more? Chosen from the menu was Cumberland sausage and mash, looked delicious. Two fish and chips, or I should say, whale and chips. The fish was enormous and the chips chunky. I had succulent scampi. Finishing with a crumble which, according to my friend, went down well. Two ice creams of generous proportions and my usual, cheese board. Three cheeses, crackers, butter, chutney, celery and grapes. Finally, very well brewed coffee. A wonderful meal for a price that in our estimation was more than reasonable, some will say a little OTT. All I can say was the food was brilliant, service fantastic and the decor, attractive. Loved the place and we will be back.

Ye old windmill eh! What a cool old building (it has been…read moreexpanded from the original portion) and a large outdoor "garden"- what you or I may call a patio. Came here with my fam for the Sunday roast. While my group didn't have much to complain about, there wasn't much to praise either. I'd say the service was noticeably better than the food....ahhh the food. The food. Well, I was most definitely disappointed. Knowing that we would only get one Sunday Roast dinner, I had been desperately looking forward to this meal... unfortunately it fell flat, real flat. Yorkshire - looked nice and large, but it was pretty flavorless The meats-opted for the pork and beef. One piece of the pork was EXTREMELY dry, and the other was just regular dry. The beef, not so much dry, but both were lacking flavor -even with the watery gravy. Both were a let down. The sides-The roast potatoes were the highlight, I only wished there were more. The sweet carrot puree was decent, however I definitely would have preferred to have them glazed whole. The cabbage was also nice, but it was just boiled cabbage. The stuffing, if you could call it that, was more meaty than stuffing like. It had decent flavor but the texture was just odd to me. I'd say the customer service was a 4 star but, it wasn't good enough to bring the food up from a 2. Therefore I'd have to give it a 2.5 stars. If you're coming specifically for the roast, maybe try elsewhere.

Haven't been there for over two years, thought we would give it ago, wish we hadn't…read more It was almost empty, keep that in mind when reading this review, if it was busy I would have let most of this slide. Only two waitress working and neither wanted to make eye contact as this would have added to their workload, all the surrounding tables had empty glasses and dirty plates stacked up which were not removed for the entire time we were there, one and a half hours) same with our view of the tables outside the window. After sitting for 20 mins I had to physically stick my arm out and say can we order, because, like I said they didn't want to make eye contact, my wife had a 7oz steak which to my horror was £30 when it arrived it was so rare i could have given it cpr and it would have walked out the place, blood was pouring out, I asked where our drinks were that we ordered when we came in, also asked if our sons (5year old) dinner could come at the same time as our starter, he had chicken mash and beans, when our starter arrived they place a very small bowl of beans on the table and walked away 10 mins later when she walked passed I managed to get her attention, I asked what the bran's were, she said that's your sons starter???? After some discussion she said they had put it through wrong, 20 mins later our meal arrived as did the remaining part of my son's, again ordered drinks that never arrived plus side orders that never arrived. Lot more to add but to much to list, when the bill came, for 2 adults and a child, starter and main with two drinks each it came to £115, I have never spent that amount on food in my life, the bill took anther 20 mins to arrive after asking, on the way home we got kentucky cost 10 quid and was perfect. Will never ever try this pub again, if you have deep pockets, plenty of time and like avoiding eye contact this is the place for you otherwise find a better place to eat, shouldn't be difficult

Richardcm98lx Colchester, United Kingdom…read more Meal at lunch time at Shaw's Farm, 22/07/21 We decided to try this restaurant today for the first time as we were going to South Woodham Ferrers to get our eyes tested and thought it would be nice to have a meal round the corner afterwards. I ordered a medium Sirloin steak and my wife ordered a pork belly and our friend chose a Lasagne. I was very disappointed with the steak which was overcooked. The waitress agreed and said she would ask the Chef to do another steak as they had some problems. I have to say that I did not enjoy the meal and I would not go there again! Very disappointed!
