Many years ago, I stumbled (quite literally) upon this place as I drove away from the Alfa Romeo historic museum. My friend saw their tiny sign and tugged my sleeve - urging me to stop since it looked like the parking lot was filled with the vehicles of local working folks. It was wonderful and cheap back then and this time - decidedly more upscale but still remarkably affordable.
We picked (with help from our fantastic waitress) hearty fare from the limited menu. I had what read from the name "spatzel" but came to me like perfectly cooked pasta with cheese and a delicately flavored sauce. I could have had two plates. My friend had the same and we interrupted each other with yummy noises and silly smiles.
As we dined, the place filled up with what appeared to be workmen from local construction projects. The waitress knew them all by name (even hugged a couple) and as I glanced at their choices, I saw they matched what we were having.
This is what I love about traveling off the beaten path in a new country. Sure the big cities have the art, music, culture, and post-card-worthy attractions but the real cultural experiences happen out where the working people live, work and, more important for us Yelpers, eat.
Find this place with your GPS. Go in hungry and get ready to smile and make yummy noses.
