Dr. Root is very thorough & can make a diagnosis very quickly based on your symptoms. She is very calming when your child is ill, which is WORTH A MILLION DOLLARS as far as I am concerned!!! I believe she is a Christian caring doctor as evidenced by my experiences w/ her. The fact that she may be unaware of FSA claims (which I doubt, Dr. Root is very intelligent) does not have anything to do with how competent she is as a physician. That is an administrative issue not a doctor patient care issue!!

I went in while experiencing a miscarriage. I arrived at 7pm and was told that an ultrasound tech…read morewas on call and had already been called due to another patient experiencing the same symptoms that I was and needing an ultrasound as well. I was told that once the tech was called, she had an hour to report in so it may be a wait. From about 8pm when I was moved to the ER side (apparently required due to needing an ultrasound), I was left in the room and would leave to go out in the hallway and check in with nurses to find out when I would be seen or any updates on the tech arriving. I did this about every half hour since I had been previously told she had an hour to report in. The tech finally saw me at 12am. During the ultrasound, she had constant phone notifications sounding off and distracting her from the procedure. At one point, she had me (the patient) hold the transvaginal probe inside of my body so that she could respond to her phone. I was already quite distressed due to the nature of going through a miscarriage, and this made it much worse. The cherry on top was the bill I received. $3400 (after insurance claims). $2000 of this portion was just due to having to check into the ER (to not be seen whatsoever) but just to have the ultrasound in that ER room. Just beware before coming here. The doctors and nurses are kind, but "on call" does not mean much to the techs. Also, beware that you will end up paying thousands if you step foot into their ER (even if no testing or care is done via ER services).

My high ratings are contributed to…read moreour assigned nurse Austin who was a great listener, great communicator, had compassion and was on board with my goals of a clear diagnosis and definitely pain relief. We were there 9-5 but hubster was able to sleep first time in days after arriving home. They took tests, had a cat scan, and the doctor kept trying different meds while consulting with the neurologist who came up with a cocktail of meds. Not all caregivers are the same, as I observed others that day, but we were blessed. Now on to day 2 and hopeful for healing...

I'm still giving Saxony a good rating because overall I would say it is the best hospital I have…read morebeen to but I need to update to share my last experience about 2 weeks ago. First of all, more than once (2-3 times recently probably) something has gone wrong with a lab test and either they forgot to test for part of what they meant to in the first place or it got contaminated and had to be redone. I understand things happening because we live in a world with germs, but having to come back multiple times because they "forgot to do the 'sensitivity' part of a (culture and sensitivity) urine test" is ridiculous. Sometimes it feels like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. All they need to do is read the order from the doctor to find out what needs to be done, and make sure it all gets done. When I first got there, I was called up to the check-in desk and the process was started to check me in, but they were backed up with patients (the receptionist's words were, "I'm going to go ahead and do your registration out here too because they are swamped back at the windows"--after checking in at the front desk there is usually no wait to go down the hall to the window to register). After standing at the desk for about 5 minutes--maybe more, I'm not sure--I was told to go have a seat in the lab waiting area because the computer was freezing up and they couldn't complete the registration process. They would call me up when it unfroze. After sitting there for another 5 minutes or so, another patient walked over, obviously having been told the same thing, and whispered under her breath, with a roll of her eyes, "hurry up and wait!" :-D After just a few minutes waiting there, I was called back by the tech, after sorting out the confusion as to why I didn't yet have my check-in bracelet or stickers. The tech who took me back obviously wasn't extremely happy to be there (or she was feeling the stress of the front desk) because when she took me down the hall she didn't even verify my name or birthdate for the computer system as they usually do, and she practically threw the specimen cup at me and sent me on my way across the hall, without offering to hold the door or help me carry it (I use forearm crutches to walk, and although I am perfectly capable of carrying things like that the courteous gesture is always appreciated). The second reason I am lowering my rating from this last visit is because of the restroom. Every time I have used the lab restroom for a test, it has been almost spotless--no trash on the floor, clean/dry sink and surrounding area, soap and paper towel dispenser full. This time, however, none of that was true. There was water around the edge of the sink, the paper towel dispenser was empty, so I had to dry my hands on my pants, there was a giant trash bag full of trash sitting ON TOP OF the waste basket, and (this might have been the grossest part--it has happened a few other times) there was a full specimen cup in the metal receptacle when I opened it to put mine in! The lab techs had obviously not checked before I went in to make sure they got everything. I don't know if this had been an extra busy day (I think it was mid-afternoon on a Friday that I was there), if they were understaffed or what, but no one wants to use a restroom in that condition. This was definitely not the best visit I have had here but I love this hospital for other reasons so overall these are not enough reasons to turn me away. I just hope they work on figuring out how to handle really busy days with high volumes of patients.

I was referred to Ascension St. Vincent Castleton from Nora Urgent Care due to some chest pain I…read morewas having off and on throughout the day. As soon as I arrived, they checked me in and set me up in an examination room. The nurses and doctors came in and did an EKG on me. I explained my situation to them and filled out the forms. They told me the tests they were going to do on me, and walked me through the process with ease. The nurses were very professional and took very good care of me during my stay at the hospital. I was very impressed with the equipment and technology at the hospital and the tests they did on me. I had never seen anything like it before, but of course, I do not make a habit of being at the hospital on a regular basis. The only thing I did not like was one of the nurses went to fill up my water bottle and would not bring it back to me until I was done with the tests and being discharged. One of the nurses had to hunt down my water bottle for me before I was discharged. I thought this was unprofessional and rude to one of the nurses. Other than that, all the nurses were wonderful and demonstrated great customer service and care to me throughout my stay. As it turned out, the doctor told me it was an after effect from my pleural effusion and told me to take ibuprofen with food every eight hours. It would eventually go away. I'm glad it was nothing serious. The whole stay ended up being four hours from start to finish, which is ridiculous, but typical for an ER visit, but at least I did not have to wait to be checked in and seen by someone. Overall, this is a great hospital with great staff and would come back here for care if I had to go back to the hospital. Hopefully, that day will not come in the near future.
