Dr. Pace's care does not "fit in the box" to me, this is a blessing and rarity. Those able to look past a small office that lacks corporate frills, they will be pleasantly surprised by Dr Pace's authenticity, uniqueness and brilliance. Specialists, like her will no longer exist one day. This will be a sad day. We need to support and appreciate providers like Pace who are less robotic and smart enough to keep a solo practice running. This allows Dr. Pace to thrive at problem solving and make obscure connections other providers may have missed. read more

I moved to Arizona from Cleveland about 5 yrs ago with complex and serious medical issues. Due to this, I needed to find several docs (and fast !) for continuing my care (meds, labs etc.). After being told by some doctors that I wasn't curable and so they weren't interested or being told they didn't have time for my complex case in their busy practice, I found Dr Pace quite by accident ... but I like to believe she was an answer to my prayers. Dr Pace has a warm disarming manor that immediately puts you at ease. She laughs with her patients easily, demonstrating her joy and humanity, that's often a rarity in medicine. She treats her patients holistically ~ body, mind & spirit ~ understanding that health isn't only a collection of symptoms but what is going on in your life as well that impacts a patient's health. She asks what is going on with my other issues as well knowing that my other medical problems impact her discipline as well. When I came to AZ and couldn't find anywhere to get labs drawn from my port as an outpatient, Dr Pace found me an outpatient site close to home that I could use and I am forever grateful. She is not only my doctor, she is my confident and friend. She is backed up by a friendly staff who are very fine at following up on appointments and making sure you have done everything needed for your visit (labs etc.) as well as set up TELEMED appointments. I feel very lucky that I have finally found a caring & competent rheumatologist in the valley!!!! It seems to be a constant uphill battle to find a doctor in the Phoenix area that will take time to listen and legitimately care about each patient. I have lived all over America (and all over the world) with my occupation, and I have NEVER had such lack of medical care as in the Phoenix area. After living over half my life with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Sjogren's Syndrome, Raynaud's Syndrome & Hypothyroid, as well as going through aggressive Ovarian Cancer & chemo in my 30s, it is refreshing to find rheumatologist that isn't desensitized to considerate care of the autoimmune issues at hand. I went to Dr. Carolyn Pace's office a year ago, and at that time had United Health Insurance. I was asked by my kidney doctor to go back to her for testing. Her office took my copay, took a copy of my insurance card, and did not tell me at either appointment that they are out of network. I sat for over an hour at each appointment just to be seen. Doctor Pace did not review my chart before she came in. She needed to be informed of everything concerning my case. She ordered tests to see if I have Lupus. When the test results came back, she came into the room, and it was evident she had not seen the results before. She explained that most things in the results lead her to believe I do not have Lupus, except for one of the indicators on one of the tests. She had to look up on Google, (in front of me) what one of the tests meant. She said that she could not give a confirmation of what my diagnosis was. She ordered a test to be done a few months from then, and sent me on my way. I have been to many doctors, and this was the worst experience I have ever had. A few months later I got a bill for out of network pricing. I should have been made aware that my coverage was not longer accepted at their office. I would have never gone to these appointments, and would have found a Dr. in my coverage. I have contacted their office, and was told by billing that they believe that they should have let me know that my visit would not have been covered. They said they will try to have the girls at the front desk inform people that they would be out of coverage. I believe that I should not have to pay out of network pricing when the office agrees that they should have informed me that they do not take my coverage. They took my card, made a copy, and took my copay. I am a teacher, and have many health issues. I do not make much money, and would struggle to try to pay this bill. I was sent to collections, and now have this bill on my credit. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Pace's for a few years now. She has been an outstanding doctor. I do have a very good rapport with her and her staff. However, I have experienced paperwork not getting processed in a timely manner. Once, I let Dr. Pace know she will take care of it immediately. Unfortunately, there appears to be a higher turnover with the front office staff. I believe this tends to impact the way things are run. But, Dr. Pace is a very compassionate, spiritual doctor. read more

Long Time Patient I've been a Patient of Dr. Paces' for nine or ten years now. I'm sorry to hear that you had trouble getting an appt. And I'm surprised that you didn't get a call back ! The staff is very nice and helpful and I'm sure had every intention of calling you back. I suggest if you really want to see Dr. Pace and can wait till something is available, KEEP CALLING !! If not there are a few other very good Rheumatologist's in the valley. You may even think about calling the office and asking who they would recommend. Dr. Pace has a very busy practice and cannot always take on new patients as I'm sure she would like to be there for all of us with RA and other debilitating rheumatology issues. I have been in the health care field for 25+ years and used to be the one to refer patient's to her from the primary Dr. She is wonderful, very layed back, easy to talk to...and she listen's. She has been a very important part of my life. It took several years to finally get me diagnosed but she never gave up and said she knew something was there just had to let it come to light. In the meantime she treated the symptoms and kept me as comfortable as possible. As soon as I was diagnosed She immediately added the necessary meds and other treatments to help me live as normal a life as possible. I STRONGLY recommend Dr. Pace. Very poor communication between the desk staff and Dr. Pace has most likely ended my patronage here as a patient. Sometimes you wish you could explain something to the DR. him/herself rather than going through the front desk staff who often doesn't understand. It's frustrating. read more

I made an appointment to see Dr. Pace as a new patient, not only did I have to wait multiple days for a call back to schedule but was told I would be seeing another doctor. I made this appointment a month in advance. Fast forward to day of appointment, I call because I didn't get a confirmation call or email, so left a message for a call back to confirm. I got the call. Ok now I arrived at my appointment early, signed in and was told because I hadn't met my deductible, I had to pay this certain amount. I explained that I didn't have the amount being requested and asked that my insurance be billed first and then I'll pay balance (if I have one) at my next appointment. I explained this is something I was not told prior to appointment. Response was due to the practice being small the doctor requires payment. Moral of the story, I was unable to see the doctor. I have never had the issue and it makes me so mad because this an appointment I need. I have no intentions of returning and I heard so many good things about Dr. Pace. read more

I understand busy, and I know specialists are in demand, especially in the East Valley, as it seems most specialists are concentrated in the West Valley. When my rheumatologist closed her practice in July, I began the search for a new one. Carolyn Pace was highly recommended and had some good reviews. I called to see if she was accepting new patients. The "person" who answered the phone was actually a computer message, saying that if I was interested in auditioning (basically) to be one of Dr. Pace's patients, that I had to email my name, situation, phone number, etc. and that I would hear back in a few weeks. 4 weeks, no reply. I call again and ask to speak to a human, only to be told I had to email if I wanted to be considered as a patient. I explained that I HAD emailed, a month ago, and was Dr. Pace accepting new patients or not? Because if she's not, no harm, no foul, I'll look elsewhere. I once again was directed to email. I emailed in August. I emailed in September. I emailed in October. No response. Fortunately, I found a great new rheumatologist in Mesa, but you know what? Even if the AMAZING Dr. Pace ever decided to call back to let me know I'd been deemed worthy to be one of her patients, I'll tell her off. I wouldn't trust anyone this arrogant, wishy-washy, and disrespectful in charge of my care. If you don't want new patients, just say so, already, don't string people along with a ridiculous email audition system. read more

Dr. Pace is wonderful. She was extremely thorough, went over all my history and symptoms, and was actually able pinpoint the cause of my pain. I've seen so many doctors over the past 20 years, and none of them were able to figure out what was causing my pain. A lot of them didn't take it seriously, or acted like it wasn't possible for me to be having such extreme pain. Dr. Pace not only believed me, but really understood the toll that constant chronic pain has on a person. I have a complicated case, with multiple diagnoses, and she was the first doctor in 20 years who was able to figure out what they were, and then actually treat them and make them better. BEWARE!!! For all of you that are seeking DR Carolyn Pace to be your Rheumatologist. Here is our story, Last year when East Valley rheumatology close their doors, I was was forced to find a new Doctor. We were one of the lucky few (unlucky as our case) to be accepted as a new patient. At first all was good, I was already on a RA medicine that was doing its job and things were great, but come January 1 2017, new insurance so that meant New Pre-authorizations were needed to continue with the current medicine. You would that would not be a big issue. But for this office it was impossible, On January 5 I called the office and provided all the new Insurance information and ask for the Doctor to submit the pre-authorization request. 2 weeks go by and I have not heard anything. I called back to the office and was told they do not have the new insurance information. I provide them the information a second time. Another 2 weeks go by, by now I am running out of my medicine. Still nothing. I called a 3rd time and was told again, we do not have your information. This time I drive the 35 mile to the office and hand delivered the new insurance card. By now I have been off my medicine for 2 weeks. They finely got around to submitting the Pre-authorization, Which as initially denied. We asked them to submit an appeal and provide the insurance company with the requested history show we have tried the other medicine with no good results. Again they did not do the appeal. I am going on a month with no medicine by now as as anyone who has Severe RA knows without the medicine all your joint flair up and cause severe pain. Again we asked for them to do their job in getting approvals for the medicine. It 6 weeks now in severe pain, I went from self-sustain to nonfunctional. I could no longer do things myself due to the severe pain. 8 weeks have gone by, I finely have my face to face appointment with Dr Pace. I tried to explain to her that I needed medicine. During the visit she told me that she has to many patients and not enough staff to sit on the phone with the insurance company's. They told us we should call the insurance company to find out what medicine I should take, I told her I am no the doctor.. I left with a starter kit for Cimzia, Which I told her did not work, tried it before. I agreed to try it again, as before it made things worse. We called back to the office and told them it did not help, it made me severely sick for 3 days. They agreed to submit for a new medicine, said they would mark it urgent. A couple of day go by, nothing, I called the insurance company and they had nothing, this 9 weeks now with no good medicine. We called every day and they would tell us the same thing we submitted it and every day the insurance company get nothing. On 3/10 we receive a letter from DR pace's office stating that they are dropping me and no longer will be my Rheumatologist. Her unethical treatment of me has caused severe pain and suffering and lose of quality of life, ALL I EVER ASKED FOR WAS MEDICINE TO TREAT MY RA SO BE WARE and proceed at your own risk to your health read more

First go round it was a telephone recording saying that you need to email them your insurance company lol and telephone number etc. I thought are you kidding me what a way to start off on the right track who's idea was that lovely experience! So I did email and low and behold not a response after two emails!!!! I then just 3 days ago called the office again cause I am need of a new Rheumy since we all know that East Valley Rheumatology is gone leaving many patients without a Rheumatologist. I had previously even before this like 12 years ago tried to see Dr Pace to same thing nope it is like sorry I have no words to describe to get past the guards or whatever she has in place! So, I again am playing the Dr. Pace game emailed with no reply then I called three days ago left a message about emailing and now please could call me back to nothing!!! I once spoke to another Doctor about the front desk not giving messages to the Doctor who when I told her about that was well upset and glad I spoke to her about the lack of her office staff!!!! She said I am the Captain of this ship and if they are not giving me messages then that makes me look bad! Well, hopefully this is a front office problem not a Dr. Carolyn Pace problem. I thought well maybe I should just go to her office and I might and sit there until I get to speak with her. What a uncool way to run a doctor's office if you can't take on new patients just put it on your phone I think it takes 5 minutes to do????? Now if I ever get to see Dr. Pace I will certainly rewrite my review but sorry if you cannot even call or email or no correspondence that is BAD business sorry! read more
