The LEGENDARY Fort Wayne Coney Island restaurant is a childhood favorite of mine and a downtown…read moreFort Wayne institution that has been around for over 100 years! Their version of a coney dog has mustard, LOTS of onions, a meaty chili soup sauce, and boiled buns and weiners. Each one costs a fabulous $1.95 in 2026. I haven't eaten here since before Covid so I was excited to come back and get a quick meal here - as well as introduce my boyfriend to the food staples of my hometown! He ordered two Ft Wayne coney dogs and a side of frito chips while I ordered one coney dog and a side of "chili soup." Yes, it is exactly how it sounds. A very soup-y chili. Our order was less than $15 total! You can't find a deal like this anywhere anymore! So come to Ft Wayne Coney and people watch while surrounding yourself in a world of nostalgia. And not only is the food fast and cheap, it is also made with love and delicious!

I drove from Chicago to Fort Wayne, specifically to go to a couple of restaurants, and this was my…read morefirst stop of the day. I parked out back, and walked through the kitchen (pretty cool). I took a seat at one of the stools at the counter. About those........this place has been around since the early 1900s, and you can tell. The stools were the size to fit people back then. My big ass barely fit on it, and this old timer next to me went to sit down, and missed the stool completely and almost took a tumble (thankfully he did not fall down). I placed my order for 2 hot dogs and a large Dr Pepper. How were they? Delicious! Coney Dogs- These dogs come with a loose meat style coney sauce, mustard and onions all on a soft steamed bun. The most awesome part, they are only $2.00 each! You can't get anything these days for $2.00. The dogs were delicious! I can see how they have been around 100+ years. If I wasn't going to another place to eat afterwards, I could have put down 4-5 dogs, easily. Service was very friendly, and I was in and out in about 20 minutes. Would definitely stop back in if I'm ever near Fort Wayne again!

My story: When I was visiting Vancouver, Canada, there was a street vendor who served "Japanese hot dogs". They were quite scrumptious, and I was jealous that the city residents could have these fancy dogs anytime they pleased. I am jelly no more. While touring the Wellfield Botanical Gardens during their special "Tulips and Tunes" festival, the Wiener Shack made their presence known. I stopped by their booth to grab a drink (a bottle of Boylan birch beer), and decided to return. Upon coming back, I tried the "Vortex". Ahh, the Vortex. What a fantastic adventure of a hot dog. Take a delightfully seasoned hot dog, add Sargento's provolone cheese, grilled onions, a dash of some raspberry something-or-other sauce, and pack it all into... a glazed twist doughnut. I know what you're thinking: WTF. Well, I guarantee you that it was most delicious. Also, the guy and lady who was running the stand were very friendly and helped me with recommendations. And I can't believe that this is right here in Goshen. I WILL be checking out their storefront sometime.
