There are three main entrances to Duke Health Center at Southpoint, and I've now visited all three…read morefor various reasons over the years. Round back is Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, where I had physical therapy after tearing my adductor and later got a consult and surgery referral for a ganglion cyst. The entrance closest to the Renaissance Center's Nordstrom Rack is the main clinic for your general health concerns, and the entrance closest Fayetteville Rd. is Durham Radiology Associates. I hadn't seen a primary care physician in the better part of a decade, but when I started showing symptoms of hypothyroidism---namely: chronic fatigue, muscle aches and joint pains, unexplainable weight gain (we're talking forty pounds in eighteen months), plus shortness of breath with only moderate exertion, occasional difficulty swallowing, and a choking feeling when I lay on my back---I decided it was time to go. My new doctor identified a nodule on the left lobe of my thyroid, and immediately referred me to Durham Radiology Associates for a thyroid ultrasound. I checked in online via the Duke Healthview portal---which allows you to complete all of your paperwork and even pay your copay (if applicable) in advance of your visit---waited fifteen minutes, then headed back for the ultrasound. The ultrasound tech was very welcoming and cracked some truly funny jokes to ease the tension. She was also professional and knowledgeable and explained everything she was doing, including warning me when something would feel uncomfortable. Despite having to lie there with my neck hyperextended and feeling a tad like I was being strangled, the bed was actually pretty damn cushy and comfy. As gentle as the tech was, I felt pain in the left side of my neck when she moved the transducer over the area. It was then that I started to panic just a tad, but I think the tech could tell, and calmly reminded me to stay still, and that we would be done soon. After the procedure, she gave me towels to wipe the lubricating gel off my neck, and checked in with a physician on-site to ensure that the images she captured would work. Then I was free to go. On the wall there is a sign that says u/s technicians are not permitted to give out information regarding what they see on the u/s until it has been read by one radiologist and verified by a second. I had my results just five hours later (got them via iPhone while at the All about Beer CMYE, in fact): a cold, solid nodule on my left thyroid lobe with multiple macro- and microcalcifications, as well as increased bloodflow to the area, all of which greatly increase the concern for malignancy. Within a few days I was in with one of the top endocrinologists at Duke. While this has all been quite a shock, I feel that I am in the best possible hands with Duke's Medicine, Radiology, and Surgery departments. I am grateful for everyone's exceptional interdepartmental communication and their ability to get all results to me so unbelievably quickly. They employ only the most skilled professionals, all of whom truly go above and beyond. UPDATE: Got the results from my fine need aspiration (FNA) biopsy and I DO NOT have cancer. HURRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! My endos are not sure why I'm symptomatic, since my thyroid is producing TSH in normal amounts, but for now I'm just thanking my lucky stars that it ain't the Big C. For the record, a cancer scare is about ten thousand times more terrifying than an undergrad pregnancy scare. Yikes!

Super nice waiting room. Very friendly and efficient clinical staff. They got my results to my Drs…read morein a few hours.

Horrible experience! I would never recommend going to the one off of Ben Franklin in Durham…read more I was set up for an MRI and a Cat Scan on the same day. I called several days ahead to make sure I knew what the out of pocket charges were. I asked for insurance out of pocket charge vs. self pay. On the MRI it was cheaper to do the self pay. They had that amount right. On the Cat scan, they wanted $900 hundred upfront when I was told $270 by their insurance dept. I had to wait forever for them to try to figure this out which they didn't. The front desk lady was awesome. They took me to the back and did the MRI, the tech was awesome. Sent me to a little room where the office manager came in saying the $900 was right. We went round and round, she was a complete jerk. They were wrong not me and she would not take responsibility for their billing/insurance offices mistake. She told me that I would only have to pay the $270 that day and they would bill me the rest. Which was still totally wrong on their part. I had whom I spoke with name written down at home and called back the next morning and gave it to them. The lady that does the Cat scans was awesome, did my scan and told me that I didn't need to check out to have a good day. I go through the lobby and get called by the same lady that was helping me. I go over and she said what are you going to pay today. I said I can pay what I want, then I will pay $200. I swipped my card and went on my way. Today I pull up my checking and they had charged me $270 plus $200. I called back up there and she told me I swipped my card twice (this dumb office manager) and I owe them the remaining balance. I am waiting for my bank to call back now. If they had already charged me the $270 why was I stopped on the way out and asked to pay more that day? I was told I only had to pay the $270 because I had already self paid $1275 for the MRI and now $275 for the Cat scan, so now they got an extra $200 which I didn't ever have. These people are a bunch of crooks. I will never go back there again and would highly recommend that you don't use them either. That office manager said that the supervisor in the insurance dept said that I had discussed a Cat scan that I got years ago with the insurance lady which we did not. She said it was a recorded call, I told her we certainly did not and that she needed to get that call and listen to it. However what would that have to do with this anyway, that was just a outright LIE. Forewarning everyone- Don't use this Place!!! Dawn S.

1 Star due to Billing. Received bill 2 weeks after MRI. Bill stated "YOUR INSURANCE HAS BEEN…read moreBILLED CORRECTLY AND THE REMAINING BALANCE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY". Total Due $3112.20. Well actually........ you did not wait for payment from insurance. I highly doubt that most insurance companies pay and settle claims in less than 2 weeks. Durham Diagnostics should seriously work on their procedures. Billing patients for money that is not owed at the minimum causes aggravation, and if patients actually pay it could cause hardship trying to get money back from Durham Diagnostics. I can only guess that it would take more than 14 days to get a refund if I had paid for this erroneous bill.

A nice building and the staff I dealt with were very friendly. HOWEVER, I would not recommend this…read morepractice to anyone. I had an accident and x-rays showed a probable tibial plateau fracture to my knee so my orthopedist order a CT scan. Today, a week later I went to see my doctor and still no report. He had to call and request that they read it. He said they didn't like it and gave him push back but he insisted. He said this is not an isolated incident. Another doctor I have spoken with said they are terrible about getting results read. There is no excuse for this. I'm probably going to have to have further imaging coming up and I'm going to personally ask if there is anywhere else to have it done. There is no excuse for this. If you don't have enough staff, find staff. Outsource your work and do right by your patients!

I visited this location today with my daughter who was having an MRI. The building is brand new…read morewith beautiful, crisp yet cozy decor. Every personnel we encountered were all very pleasant, friendly and helpful. I didn't get the MRI tech's name but she was sure to answer any questions my daughter and I had, ensured that the radiologist had an understanding of her health concerns and did everything she could to make my daughter comfortable. I was able to go back to stay with my daughter while she filled out the screening forms but once she was ready for the exam, I was given the option to remain in the hallway in dressing area or return to lobby. They have music they can play (any genre) while having an MRI, so be sure to ask about it! Within three hours of leaving, my daughter had her results in her MyChart! Impressive!
