I Left With a Punctured Lung and Little Accountability... Please read before you seek care there. I underwent what I believed were routine trigger point injections, and what followed was one of the most frightening medical experiences of my life. Immediately after the procedure, I developed symptoms that ultimately led to the diagnosis of a punctured lung (pneumothorax). I required emergency treatment, hospitalization, and placement of a chest tube. I experienced significant pain, difficulty taking deep breaths, missed work, and weeks of recovery from an injury that never should have occurred during what was presented as a relatively straightforward procedure. What has been equally disappointing is how the practice handled the situation afterward. Rather than accepting meaningful responsibility or attempting to make things right, I received what amounted to an apology accompanied by statements that the procedure was performed within the standard of care. Their position was essentially that complications can happen, and therefore no further action was warranted. In my case, I was never informed that a punctured lung was a risk of the trigger point injections I received. Had I understood that risk, I would have asked additional questions before consenting. Patients deserve informed consent that is specific to the procedure actually being performed. While the practice stated they reviewed my case and even identified opportunities to improve their documentation and procedural processes, those acknowledgments have done nothing to address the physical pain, emotional distress, lost income, and disruption this complication caused. Mistakes and complications can occur in medicine. What defines a practice is how it responds when they do. I expected accountability, transparency, and a sincere effort to resolve the situation fairly. Instead, I was left feeling that protecting the practice was more important than caring for the patient who was harmed. I hope future patients never experience what I did, and I hope the practice follows through on whatever changes they identified during their internal review. My experience, however, left me deeply disappointed and without confidence that patients are truly supported when serious complications occur. read more

I would never recommend this medical facility. I saw Dr. Shanti who reviewed an MRI I had done and said "there is nothing I can do for you and no surgeon will operate on you without seeing your episacral lipomas on an MRI." I knew something was wrong despite the dismissal so I spent more time in pain and money on an ultrasound. A radiologist then reviewed the ultrasound and the same MRI "read" by Dr. Shanti confirming there were two episacral lipomas. I'm now scheduled for surgery but the process was held up for no reason because my lipomas were missed. Good thing I didn't trust this physician. Unfortunately I as the patient had to go through more months of pain and more money spent to confirm something that this physician did not catch. Disgraceful. read more

I saw another Dr. there that left the practice. That one was great - listened, gave you time, answered questions, patient, etc. Because my Dr. had left, I had to see Dr. Singh. It was really bad. He acts all nice, but he is impatient and doesn't want to be bothered with questions. I asked him THREE questions and he said to me "I think you just like asking questions." To his credit he did text me to apologize. But honestly I've never experienced that level of rude before. Not only that, but he gave zero information about what to expect after my injection. Like, I did not know my face would completely flush red like a sunburn and I was going to get much worse for awhile. I did go back once more and was sorry I did. He told me "I'm not passing you off" but that is exactly what he did - sent me to 2 other doctors and spent maybe 7 minutes with me. Really disappointed in this experience with Dr. Singh. Dr. Torres and his team have been absolute life savers! I came to him from another spine clinic for specialized injections. The staff are very nice and the office does their best to get you in and out quickly. There's only been one time that I had a bit of a wait, out of multiple visits. Dr Torres takes the time to listen to his patients, give options, and respect the pts decisions. I have full confidence in his knowledge. I have had a couple of hiccups with prescriptions, but they were quickly corrected by staff. It's also really nice to call the nurse line and actually speak to the nurse immediately almost every time! I will definitely continue to visit his office for any of my spinal needs. read more

I can't recommend Carolina Spine Center highly enough - and Dr. Schmidt in particular. Before becoming a patient at CSC, I had spent more than a year seeing almost a half dozen PTs, two chiropractors, a handful of orthopedists, and another PM&R clinic, none of which offered me any effective treatment for spine pain. Most of the providers I had seen before becoming a patient here also dismissed my pain, telling me it was in my head or "not that bad." Since starting care at CSC, I've been able to get my pain largely under control, get imaging done, and finally get diagnoses -- letting me get back to my actual life for the first time in a long time. Dr. Schmidt and his team are also always respectful, and they're and responsive to calls, emails, and new developments (which is no small feat given how many patients they see). I'd definitely recommend CSC to anyone in need of pain management! read more

I have been visiting Dr. Singh and his staff at the Carolina Spine Center located in Cary and Raleigh, NC for probably a good ten years. I do not know what I would do without their care and treatment for the multiple fusions in my spine. They have always been very attentive to the details I provide when visiting the office for treatment, and those treatments are always considerate, respectful, and caring. Being so attentive when I detail my issues to them, the injections they provide result in miraculous relief of both pain and restricted motion. Without their treatments I do not know what I would do. I do know my life's activity and enjoyment level would not be anywhere close to what I currently enjoy without their care. I had to come here for my spinal steroid injections for my herniated disc, and the people were very friendly and helpful. Dr. Bai is professional and knowledgeable, and he has a great bedside manner when it comes to helping you through the procedure. I am done with my injections (waiting for surgery to actually fix the disc), so hope that I don't have to go back there, but if I do, I would gladly choose them again. read more

As a bartender of over 20 years, my body has started to take a hit from my career choice. Dr Torres has done an outstanding job of patching me up, whatever the problem may be. I've received injections in my neck, shoulder and AC joint at different times and they are SO successful I haven't missed a single shift behind the bar. My service industry peeps need to come here when your rotator cuffs and shoulder joints start to act up. If you're lucky enough to get the dream team of Dr Torres and Preston, you're in good hands but the entire staff is professional , caring and quite good at their jobs.
