The business is situated inside of a small shopping center and there probably always a parking space due to the location When I called the lady answered the phone and she was really nice! She told me that they normally take orders 24 to 48 hours in advance but I called at the perfect time because they were just popping popcorn! I was so happy about that! I ordered 2 bags of their bulk popcorn! The bags individually feed about 40 people! And they are huge! I ended getting 2 because I wasn't for sure if it would be enough and it ended up being plenty I still have an unopened one left! They offer so many flavors. While waiting to pay I was able to try a sample of their caramel siracha popcorn! And it spicy but good! I paid $36 for both bags which was extremely awesome. Overall great store, I would definitely recommend them for huge events! Or if you love popcorn! read more

Popcorn. It's hard to go wrong with it when it's fresh. It doesn't matter if it's plain or flavored. It's a nearly guilt-free indulgence even when mixed with sugary flavorings. It's popcorn, after all. What are a few spoonfuls of caramel or chocolate or nuts? Because some of the flavors use air-popped corn, that means there's no guilt. The calories evaporate when it's air-popped. At least that's how I convince myself it's okay. Carolina Popcorn Shoppe helps you feel better about indulging. They use all natural ingredients (except for the vanilla flavoring in the popcorn that uses it) and it's made fresh. Anything more than a couple of days old gets thrown out. Since there are no preservatives, the product won't keep long and the Shop doesn't make a lot of it in advance. If you're willing to wait, though, they'll make you a fresh batch. On average it's about a 15 minute wait while they fire up the popcorn popper and get things going. I haven't been there while they've done that, but the smell of popcorn popping is one of those "yum" aromas that might make the wait a must-do. If you decide to wait while they make your particular flavor popcorn, or put together a tin or a few big bags to take home or give as a gift, the shop has 3 or 4 tables and a refrigerated cooler with soft drinks for purchase. You can buy the popcorn in nearly any size from a couple of ounces to a pound or more. The hours it's open are limited, but you can always go online and order. It's also available at a couple of shops in the Triangle (e.g. Southern Season, NOFO, Gingham and Posh) so you'll never be too far away from a popcorn fix. read more

I wanted to have the same experience as most of the other Yelpers but something was off. Found the place pretty easily and it has parking right at the front door...awesome. I stopped in on what seemed like a slow afternoon. It took a while for someone to realize I was inside which is understandable. However, when the guy in the rear looked up to the front of store where I was, he just glanced and went back to what he was doing in the rear. It was weird because I expected a greeting of some kind. A lady emerged shortly after and just said hi. Again, weird. I asked to sample a couple of flavors and was a little put off by the samples being poured into my hands with the scoop. Just didn't feel sanitary on either end. I had to pause to get a napkin. I ended up getting small bags of two flavors since I made the trip. The upside is the popcorn didn't taste very fresh immediately being poured into my hands. However, when I got home, it tasted better after having been enclosed in a plastic bag. Overall, the popcorn was ok. I expected a little more from the flavors I sampled since I'm a serious popcorn aficionado. Guess it works for some but I likely won't go back. read more

Great place to purchase popcorn. There are numerous flavors to choose from and the employees are kind and helpful. I went in knowing which flavors I wanted to purchase since I had tried them at an event before, however, I would recommend that they offer samples to customers. I would be more willing to purchase additional flavors if I knew how they tasted. After ordering, the employee bagged up the popcorn for me (I would have preferred if she had worn gloves when scooping the popcorn) and placed a sticker on them. I immediately started eating the popcorn when I reached my car and it tasted fresh and delicious. I recommend the kettle corn and pickle pop flavors. I have not tried any other flavors. This is a great place! They have every flavor of Popcorn you can imagine. Soon they will be serving Ice Cream too. Its mostly "Shoppe" but you can also sit down and enjoy your popcorn (and soon ice cream) and have a cold drink. You can also sample as many popcorn flavors as you like. Keep this shop in mind when you are looking for that special gift for the person on your list who has everything. Could they really have fresh, flavorful popcorn already? I think not! There are gift tins and gift boxes to choose from as well. From what the super nice girl at the counter was telling me, the Ice Cream Counter is really unique... the ice cream is made instantly in front of your eyes using some process involving Liquid Nitrogen. The staff was extremely personable, letting me try any of their many flavors I wanted before purchasing. I learned the store has been owned by the same man for 20 years before which he bought it from his boss. They have so many delicious options to choose from just writing this review is making me want to drive over and pick some up. Addicted. This place is an adorable mom and pop shoppe, and you can tell they are keeping up with the times. They have your standard flavors of popcorn (caramel, cheese, etc) and a few interesting ones(chocolate covered strawberry, toffee almond)! The lady who was helping me was adorable, and friendly! I accidentally came before it opened, (it opens at 1 on Saturdays) but since I was only 7 minutes early, she let me in and let me look around. They let you sample everything. You could tell the lady enjoys what she does, because she kept saying how excited she was about their liquid nitrogen ice-cream that they are introducing (like i said, keeping up with the times!) I was a little disappointed because I wanted to get some chocolate popcorns, but they stop making chocolate popcorns from March - November due to the weather. It is a valid reason though, since they only sell freshly flavored popcorn! They just introduced a Sriracha popcorn which I am excited about gifting to people. I always make this into a girls' day trip and my friend and I make this our first stop. When you buy from this place you will not be disappointed at all. Each time I visit there is a lady that waits one me. She does come from the back but as soon as she knows there are customers she is alert and goes pretty fast fixing my order. I first found Carolina Popcorn Shoppe when I was searching for cool NC gifts to send back home to California for some dear friends' birthdays. The people working there are always so friendly each time I come in, and are quick to offer samples of their products! I'm pretty sure I've tasted almost all of them after multiple visits here. I've bought garlic butter, jalapeno bacon cheddar, Chicago style, Carolina cheddar crunch, confetti, pickle pop, and sriracha caramel. I have some friends who love pickles, and so I thought the pickle flavor was perfect for them and so unique! Chicago mix is also a good pick because there's a mix of salty and sweet to satisfy either craving. I love that they experiment to produce unique flavors - who would have thought of sriracha caramel?? There's definitely a kick towards the end when eating that one! They also sell pre-packaged bags and cute little sampler boxes for a variety of occasions (birthday, graduation, etc). Prices are very reasonable and they even have a loyalty stamp card - I've already redeemed one with all my trips here! Service is also great - when I told them I would be shipping these and the recipient wouldn't get it until a week later, they were extra careful to seal them tighter to maintain freshness. Getting here after work is sometimes tricky as I might not get off before they close at 6:30 P.M., but they're open for half a day on Saturdays. Definitely come try it out! read more

One of my friends raved about this popcorn, and being a huge popcorn lover I knew I had to order a few bags. We tried both the Kettle Corn, and the Caramel/Cheddar and they exceeded our expectations substantially. The Kettle Corn was really good, clearly made with very fresh ingredients, and maintained the classic Kettle Corn taste even though it was apparent that it was much higher quality than the kettle corn of my childhood. I've been going to Carolina Popcorn for years, even though Always Poppin was closer to home. I usually prefer the salty (instead of sweet) brands, but like most of their varieties. We had been weekly customers for a year. The shop has been through some unfortunate circumstances but that being said after a bit of time should not affect the quality that has gone very south. When you purchase gourmet popcorn you don't expect the bag to have 40 percent unsifted kernels that break your teeth! The woman behind the counter was super friendly and let me sample as much as I wanted-I ended up buying a bag of "Carolina Cheddar" (I believe this is what it was called-cheddar popcorn coated in caramel!) and "Bacon Cheddar Jalapeno." Absolutely incredible popcorn! I discovered them a few years ago when searching for Christmas presents, and it has become a yearly (much anticipated) family tradition. Family members swear there is some secret special addictive substance. There's not obviously.... it's just REALLY good popcorn. Try it you won't be disappointed. My friends and I were driving by looking at apartments when I noticed this little shop and decided I had to stop by and see what they had and I was not disappointed! We sampled a bunch of different flavors and the only disappointing one was the birthday cake which was way too sweet for its own good. This was a phenomenal, completely random find for me. I was driving down 54 on Saturday afternoon heading somewhere else completely different, and I saw their little sign and thought, YUM, popcorn! I arrived just as they were closing, but the gal that was closing up (I'm fairly certain her name was Holly) told us to come on in and got us samples of several kinds we wanted to try and hung around so I could buy several bags of popcorn.
