Mynt's original location is in Elon, NC, but Durham has opened their arms wide to welcome them. The owner prides herself in styling your wardrobe and even offers 'closet services' where she'll help you go through, get rid of, and re-vamp your style. Oddly enough, my first visit to Mynt Boutique was for a 'pop-up workout', where Katie Corley came in and took over the shop for an hour. Mynt was offering discounts store-wide and had a jean giveaway for attendees. Mynt draws in an older demographic of ladies: late thirties and up with their trendy look but mostly higher prices. But if you can afford it, what you'll find their will impress: booties, long necklaces, earrings and rings and everything from sky blue leather jackets to comfy one piece suites and styling blouses. It's definitely worth a peak if you need some help in the fashion department.

She could simplify fashion, makeup, and body care in a way that I could understand and is fully approachable with my countless questions both in-person, and later over the phone once I hit a wall in using my wardrobe. So far she has worked with me to get rid of those items in my closet that I don't or shouldn't wear, taken me shopping in Charlotte to build a new wardrobe, taken me to skin and makeup consultation appointments (saved me a lot of money to have my coach there at my side and in dealing with the commission-based sales people!), and walked me through my new wardrobe by photographing outfits for a flip-book to use on a daily basis. She is my go-to as events come up and seasons change, or even to help me decide which dress to buy when I'm in the dressing room. Highly recommend!! If you like the show, What Not To Wear, and really wish that could happen in your life (but without the video camera drama), you found your solution!!

There are soaps, candles, hand salve, charcuterie and cheese boards, children's books and toys, earrings, greeting cards, candy, linen spray, towels, a book about how valuable teachers are (that brought my mom and I nearly to tears) and handmade stained glass pieces. It's so cutie and welcoming. My son was happily playing with a block display (made to play with). We bought the blocks, a book about an old woman who swallowed a fly, a tempura paint marker set, earrings, and two boards as gifts. It was quite a haul. Small businesses are important and vital in our communities. We are so glad to pop in. I can safely say that nothing is the shop costs six pennies!

Whatever you need -- ornaments, santa statues, potpourri, candles -- you'll probably find it here. It's almost overwhelming when you first walk in and see all the rooms of this converted house each filled with beautiful items to decorate your home. Although the predominant theme is seasonal as is expected given the time of year, Sixpence also carries plenty of items that have no season: wind chimes, clocks, fragrant oils, general knickknacks including an extraordinary clock with a turn of the century look. At least one of the two people working on the day I was there must have been an owner as she was able to talk at length on each item and when the next shipment was due, but both went out of their way to make every guest who walked in, feel welcome. Both seemed proud of the store and it showed in their easy and down-to-earth interactions with their customers. I look forward to visiting this place again, if only to see if the seasonal slant of the merchandise gives way to the more timeless.

I was overwhelmed with the greeting and helpful information I was given immediately upon entering the store. When I shared that I was considering homeschooling and was hoping to look through curriculum to make decisions based on what was available to me, the store clerk pulled out a few guides as to what subjects are generally covered. She then proceeded to patiently walk me through each section and hand pick options for me to look through based on what I shared with her about my son. Additionally, anything on the new curriculum side of the store that I was interested in, she would make sure they didn't also have a copy of in the consign part of the store. If they did she brought it to me to look through as well as this would save me a considerable amount of money at times! I loved being here so much that I can't wait to go back. For anyone who is newly considering homeschool or I imagine anyone who homeschools at all, this spot is a must visit! They even have a playroom for kids, tons of Usborne books, and lots of used picture books and novels for kids as well. As a former teacher of eight years I cannot more highly recommend. It basically reaches out to the community with a question; for example in one of the editions the question was "What's your favorite place for BBQ". It's just interesting to see what people like and why. The paper also includes local ads, write ups on local spots-- old and new, a section dedicated to pets and one for kids too. They've also got a section called "Your letters", which is from people in the community. This is a full color paper that is priced as "priceless"-- which means you need to get a copy and get it autographed copy and put it in a treasure chest.

I really appreciate that they have a section written in Spanish - it helps me practice my fading language skills and I'm sure the Hispanic community enjoys it, as well. All the writing is colloquial and there are tons of quotes from residents, as well. I must mention that I recently checked for information about the sustainability of their printing, and they didn't mention it anywhere in the issue.
