Formerly the…read moreIndependent Weekly but no more since 2012, it's a tabloid-format newspaper for Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary. Available for pickup at more than 500 locations in the Raleigh Durham area, the circulation runs at around 200,000 according to the website. News, arts, music, food, events, this paper is plugged in to what's happening locally. I can't recall where I found my copy but I did manage to enjoy it. Interesting news about the area, specifically the "death-positivity movement" was an amusing read. And they have a crossword. That's awesome. Letters to the editor, classifieds, and a guide to the best of the Triangle. I'm a fan! [Review 12277 overall, 2061 of 2019.]

They're independent, sure, but that doesn't mean everything they report on involves hemp. I like the Independent because it's thoroughly useful. There really isn't a page in the thing that doesn't have some sort of relevant report on what's going on around me, particularly in regards to concerts and other entertainment. Any time I've said in another review to keep your eye on something, this is a good tool for doing just that, they're extremely well connected. The one exception to this are their reviews, which I often take issue with... Unless you have strong past experience to go on, don't trust their opinions on movies and shows, chances are you'll disagree.

Not a deal breaker, but there were also no refreshments or beverages offered like most of the Third Friday participants. I really felt no reason to return in the future. HOWEVER, fast forward to a spontaneous visit during a Saturday Farmers Market and my opinion of the studio has gone up. Although there was still no one to interact with us while viewing the small gallery at the front of the shop, I enjoyed the artwork and information available to visitors. BCAC is an "arts and creative professional alliance comprised of three studios." A documentary film and video production studio called The Groove Productions; a graphic design, fine press publishing, and letterpress printing shop called Horse & Buggy Press; and a fine art and portrait photography studio called Marthanna Yater. These three studios offer commissioned work and retail artworks in their own variety of media. They also regularly have rotating artists in the "Upfront Gallery" in the space, open to the public Thursday and Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings as well as every Third Friday from 6-9pm. The exhibits change every month and are comprise of everything from photography, sculpture and pottery to letterpress work and even custom pillows and bags. I recommend stopping by if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of the way to visit. Also, since it's a little out of the way of most of the Third Friday vendors, I wouldn't put it on my "must hit" list.

The anthology is professionally published and well composed in perfect binding. It is also professionally designed for artwork and layout. No account is needed to be created at check-out upon ordering, but I highly recommend clicking "shipping updates by text" option at the conclusion of your purchase to be informed of delivery times. Four stars rating because shipping time takes approximately 7 to 15 days which is excessively too long in the world of e-commerce. No comment on customer service as I did not utilize.

I am escalating this matter directly to the executive suite because front-line support staff and standard customer experience channels lack the technical security clearance to audit the severe system vulnerabilities exposed below. I am a commercial publisher managing a rapidly growing relationship guide portfolio that currently stands at 138 total ebooks. Let it be explicitly noted for the record that as of today, every single technical issue remains completely unfixed, and Lulu has taken absolutely zero real-world action to resolve these backend infrastructure defects. While Lulu has accepted and collected my upfront distribution and content review fees in full, the platform has completely failed to deliver paid services. A massive block of my passed inventory has been left stagnant for nearly two months inside an internal server transmission void, while automated software filters have been permitted to paralyze my files under false, repetitive "Copyright Infringement" flags. Lulu accepts upfront, non-refundable fees but freezes review services and distribution in complete silence.I am an independent author with a current portfolio of 122 ebooks published through Lulu Press. For every single title submitted, Lulu charges a mandatory, non-refundable $4.99 distribution review fee [64000255463-mandatory-ebook-distribution-requirements]. I have invested over $600 in upfront fees with this company, plus additional retirement fees.Despite collecting these non-refundable funds, Lulu has completely frozen operations and fragmented my portfolio across three distinct failures:The First Batch (55 Books): Distributed 5 weeks ago, and they successfully went live all around the world within 3 days. However, Apple Books is still missing 5 of them (stuck at 50), and Amazon USA is missing 39 of them (stuck at 16).The Second Batch (18 Books): Officially approved and marked "Distributed" on June 5th. It has now been 20 full days, and unlike the first batch that took 3 days, these 18 titles are completely invisible and show up NOWHERE on earth. The 30-Day Manual Review Freeze: Lulu has completely halted the mandatory manual review phase for all of my upcoming manuscript uploads. Exactly 49 of my paid books are sitting completely stagnant in a digital dead zone for over a month while my fees remain collected.Refusal to Escalate: When I requested that customer service representative "Michael" escalate this complete operational freeze to higher management, he blocked the request, went silent, and recycled generic excuses. It is an absolute violation of standard merchant rules to accept upfront, non-refundable service fees from a client and then place their account into a silent administrative hold without formal notice. I demand an executive supervisor bypass the standard help desk, manually review my account layer, and unfreeze my review queue immediately.

A year later, I received a notice from the Herald Sun that my subscription had expired as well as a request to renew. I chose not to, because I was bogged down with work and just didn't have time to read the newspaper. Months later, the Herald Sun sent a debt collector after me claiming unpaid fees because of their auto-renewal system, fees that I was not aware I was even accumulating. I called customer service, who mentioned that they distinguished between "expiration" and "cancellation" of their services, and that this was written in the fine print in the account details, but at the same time, acknowledged that I didn't have an account since I subscribed through an airline points system. They offered to reduce the fees. UPDATE: I spoke to a second customer service representative, Bella, who was very helpful in sorting this out for me.
