The fried rolls ("Shanghai") were tasty, flaky and crunchy, hot (pork maybe?) and another vast serving size (10-12!! : )= I was also given some roasted pork entree as a sample for free after I inquired about it .... awesome. The food was freshly made and as it was lunch hour I could see they were in the midst of making all the food items so they were all uber-fresh. Friendly, and helpful team. So good. 6-8 tables for seating. Small and clean. Store: Small. I did not see any(?) fresh food. Lots of bagged food (crisps, snacks, tea) and jarred items (salted fish, etc). Tucked inside the Oriental Mart, Filipino Express Restaurant was my first true taste of Filipino cuisine and I just cannot get enough of it. It is the go-to place of many of my Filipino friends, who have introduced me to many popular and even some uncommon delights. My previous knowledge of Filipino food was fairly limited, mainly to the traditional items which of course, Filipino Express has. Their lechon kawali (fried pork), pancit (noodles) and lumpia (Filipino spring rolls) are must gets, with each item being super fresh and tasty. Despite my admiration for the classics, there are so many new things that I've tried here that are also fantastic that I just can never decide. I guess that is why we always over-order. My new love is sinigang, a tangy soup that is filled with pork. While the sour may throw you off, it is so comforting. The longganisa is a Filipino sausage that has a unique sweetness to it that is just undeniably great. And the kare kare is a unique take on pork, with the main sauce being made of peanuts. It is a rich dish, but a unique flavor that is good at balancing out the fried and savory flavors. Lastly, I first experienced a halo halo here and it may just be a top 5 dessert. It is so much fun to eat, and delicious too! I covered some of my favorites here, but this really just scratches the surface of all of the amazing things that Filipino Express offers. I am always excited to go back and try something new, maybe the next thing I should try to do is not leave in a food coma!

I was grateful that there were tags that translated the name of the items because sometimes you can't tell what it is from the pictures on the items. I got dumpling flavored chips, waygu flavored Pringle chips, a few drinks, matcha flavored Oreos, white peach flavored Oreos, a Yuzu drink, soy flavored Cheetos, a perfume and a few other drinks for about $33 including tax! I've only tried the chips and they were so good! The dumpling chips were so good I had to scan the QR code on the back and check Amazon to see if could get more. They remind me of Bugles and the flavor was spot on and didn't taste artificial. The perfume was very lovely and can be mastered with other scents. Even the bag that they gave to put our items in is cute! Be aware that there will be some people crossing over in the aisles but it wasn't unstable. I was especially impressed by the variety of rice options including sticky rice and riceberry rice, plus frozen fermented crabs, meatballs, snacks, and drinks that brought back memories of browsing markets overseas. The only thing I couldn't find was Nam Pla Wan, so I still had to swing by H Mart afterward, but honestly that's a very minor complaint considering how specialized and well-stocked this place is. Also, Dora, the owner, was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Western Raleigh/Cary really needed a spot like this.

The way they pack it with space for air contributes to what helps keep the sprouts fresher. Honestly, if the world was in kahoots and this place was accessible, you could live here and cook so much yummy homemade food.

Small produce, bakery, and meats section. A larger variety of food stuffs/groceries from the Middle East and India. Spices, sweets, canned goods, and much more. What I found interesting was that all the prices seemed very reasonable for these imported goods. I don't do a ton of cooking from this region but I am curious to learn more. And I'll certainly be back to explore. Managed to find my first Dubai chocolate bar here so thank you!
