Disappointing Experience with Carolina HVAC & More
What started out as a dream upgrade quickly turned into a frustrating, months-long ordeal. I initially chose Carolina HVAC & More because Corey, the technician I've dealt with throughout, came highly recommended and offered a competitive price with fast service. In January, during a severe winter storm, our upstairs heating unit went out. Corey responded quickly and replaced it, which at the time, impressed me enough to go ahead and replace the remaining two aging units.
That's when the problems began.
First, the blower fans on two of the units wouldn't turn off after reaching the set temperature. Instead, they ran continuously, blowing cold air all night and making it hard to sleep in the winter. Corey returned multiple times before finally resolving the issue. He explained that the existing house wiring didn't match the new units and said he'd "rigged" the system temporarily, promising to return in the spring to correct it and prepare the units for summer.
Spring turned into summer, and now the 3rd floor and basement units struggle to hold temperature. The upstairs unit was set to 74 degrees but often climbed to 82 during the day. Corey came out a few more times and assured me there was no problem--but the issues persisted.
Fed up, I called another company. They immediately found serious installation errors: wiring was crossed, causing the wrong units to respond to the thermostats, and the 3rd floor unit had restricted airflow leading to icing. Condensation was leaking onto and freezing the filter. The attic unit had improperly sealed ductwork, forcing it to pull in 100+ degree attic air, and it was also low on refrigerant.
That company fixed the wiring and sealed the ducts--for over $500--while I stopped short of allowing them to refill the freon, which I felt Corey should handle. When I finally got him back out to address everything, he acknowledged the mistakes and promised to reimburse me for the repairs and make things right. To date, I've received nothing.
The basement unit now seems to be working correctly, but the upstairs unit is still consistently 4-5 degrees warmer than the thermostat setting during peak heat. I've sent multiple messages, including a final one on July 9 asking him to send someone out, no response.
I made one last attempt to get this resolved by texting Corey on Tuesday, sending him an image of the heat advisory in our area and asking if he was going to fix my AC issue. He replied that he could come Thursday between 10 and 12. I asked if he could come Wednesday instead, but never got a response. It is now Thursday at 1:09 PM, and I've had no call, no text, and no visit. Since it's clear he can't prioritize making this right or take responsibility for the serious disruption his installation has caused my family, I'm writing this review in the hope that it saves another family from going through this level of unprofessionalism.
This isn't personal. It's about accountability. Corey may offer a lower price, but the ongoing installation problems, lack of communication, and the additional repair costs make that discount meaningless. I regret trusting this company with such an important job. read more
