A carniceria is a Spanish term for a butcher shop, a specialized meat market that often provides fresh, high-quality meats and personalized service. Being born and raised in Phoenix, popping into a carniceria isn't a big deal. What it is, though, is a treat! I popped in recently for the chicharron de pella at Carniceria Murrieta's and it was delicious. Got guacamole? Pair it with chicharrones! Chicharrones with guacamole is a popular snack pairing the salty, crunchy texture of pork belly with the cool, creamy, and zesty flavor of guacamole. They sell it here. Get it!

It still won't stop me from returning.

It is a traditional Mexican bodega and meat market better known as a carniceria. Everyone there is so friendly and they have all of your hard to find Mexican brand goods. The best thing is that they have a full kitchen that serves everything from tacos, burritos, nachos and even menudo on certain days. Fresh hand made tortillas that you can purchase and take home to cook when needed as well. My go to there is the mixta burrito which is a mix of pastor (pork) and carne asada. The burrito is huge and also has beans and rice inside combined with cilantro and onions. Their fresh homemade salsas are to die for! Grab an ice cold refresco from the fridge to wash it down (soda pop for all the gringos).

Well, that's some serious serendipity, because I am pleased to come here and post about them. I am a carnivorous gringo who enjoys the goodness of fresh chicharrones, both puerco and beef. Until today, I always thought they were always fried. I don't mean the ones in the snack aisle, I mean the ones with the meat and skin together. I asked if I might taste their pork, since it was red in color from the marinade and obviously roasted. The gent behind the counter handed over a large piece with flesh and fat, and once I tasted it, I grabbed a foil hot-bag and asked him to fill it up. I also asked about what looked at first like a gordita there. He explained it was a pork taquito, and promptly handed me a whole one to try. So tasty, with moist pork filling. So, prompt courteous service, and I spent too much on a giant bag of treats, LOL. NO, no, it gets better. .. Outside this friendly market is an open-air tacqueria. There's just a few choices, which was just fine by me. I had one each tripa, al pastor and carne asada, all with onion and cilantro, as God intended.. IIRC, there was also a barbacoa and a pollo option. Let's just cut-to-the chase...you get your $2 worth. Besides the wonderful seasoning and good portion, they are served on FRESH-MADE corn tortillas! NOT from a plastic sleeve! Yes, he had all the fixin's there, too. Chopped onion, pickled carrots, cabbage, and a couple different kinds of hot-sauce. I was in Taco Heaven, and had I not recently eaten a boring lunch elsewhere, I would've most certainly made more of a glutton of myself. Mind you, the best I've tasted so far in Phoenix are from well-established coaches. Tacos Sahuayo at 2900 E. Mcdowell, Tacos Chava at 2700 W. Van Buren and La Frontera on 16th St. south of Van Buren. (EDITED: I've now sampled Tacos Saguaro on 32nd st) I point those out in the hopes you have a good point of reference for what I feel is 'good'. Because they now eat this vendor's DUST, mi amigos!
