I mentioned a few issues I had in addition to the main problem - wipers quit working. They looked my car over and found the problems, providing me with details and what could be fixed now and what could wait. They provided me details, cost, etc. and kept me apprised of progress. Additionally, they provided me a loaner car. This was a godsend as I was going to daily radiation therapy for cancer. I was so pleased with their care, I also asked them to give me an oil change as I knew it would be needed soon. They sent me the invoices, from them it appears their time estimates are conservative which is great, for instance they can replace a timing chain in 5 hours which is a hell of a lot faster than I can do it! It is my opinion the costs are hidden by the price of parts. The subframe on my Saab was replaced in April, the charge for the part which was used was 1,080 dollars. Here in the south I can get 5 for that price 1,080 dollars. The worst part however is for around 1,080 dollars you can actually buy a brand new OEM subframe. What about a PCV valve for 50 bucks!? The superseded part number to the one in the invoice, in other words the newer part number, costs 12 dollars. Keep in mind that Saab parts are not hard to get contrary to what you may hear, the factories are still pumping a lot of them out. Make of my review what you will, but I personally would not take my Saab to this mechanic.
