We like the fun the Skadium has to offer. This is the place my daughter picked for her birthday treat with the family. So we all packed up and headed to ice skate. It was very fun and a great workout at the same time. I used to have my own skates. I like hokey skates. The rental selection of hockey skates is more sparse than the figure skate selection. If you have skates - bring them. The food isn't the greatest and seems a bit over priced. But, I don't come here to eat. I come here to skate. The rink is big and there is room for skaters of all skill levels. Fun times - we will be back! read more

Carmel Ice Skadium has two rinks which I've never seen before. But I understand why since there are many hockey players practicing here after public skating closes. And it is obviously home to many talented figure skaters and their coaches. The granddaughter had her 11th birthday this week and wanted to go ice skating. By coming on a Wednesday there was no crowd at all. The snack bar adequately fulfilled both kids' hunger pains. Their rental skates were in good condition and looked fairly new. Seating was marked out for distancing and signage was posted. Everyone was wearing their masks both on and off the ice. Rink #1 has bleachers running the full length of one side so there is always a place to sit and observe. There are rental lockers available as well. The ice was in good condition and well maintained. What a dump! The only thing updated in decades is the cash grab Game Room. Very disappointed in Mike Aulby, the owner. Grew up going to one of his bowling's alleys and his facilities have always seemed well kept. But the Skadium looks like it's owned by Scrooge McDuck who'd rather bank money than reinvest it (at this facility). How it still has only stairs to get down to the rink amazes me, especially because skate rental is at the top of the stairs. Every fixture is beat up and worn. The seats of the wooden chairs in the main lobby look like Edward Scissorshands uses them to practice his hedge sculpturing. The food is NFL Stadium prices but tastes like a sawdust and cardboard. Mike must use the cheapest food vendor possible to pad those profit margins. The rink bleachers look like they came out of the gym used to make "Hoosiers" from the time period the film was set in. Couldn't guess at the last time the rink plexiglass was cleaned Not to mention that on hockey game days they keep the locker rooms locked until right before the game. If the coach comes early, they can sign out a key like an interstate side gas station. But if the coach (like a lot of coaches) is coaching their other kid's team beforehand that means of course that they won't be able to get a key until after that game is done. Of course, the first thing you notice when you arrive is that all the parking spaces are compact car size for vehicles that have to carry entire families and huge hockey gear bags. This place is busy year round. Prices aren't cheap at all. So I've got to think that Mike has the money to reinvest and update. read more

My jacket still smells like Carmel Ice Skadium, which smells like old grease and kid farts. The smell is everywhere, it's stifling, it permeates everything. So, you've got the smell. Then you've got all the noise from all the people (it was really packed when we visited), and the noise from the arcade adjacent to the skate rental desk. Then there's the trash and random bits of detritus on the floor, and the grimy rug upon which the trash and detritus sit, and the finger-print-covered windows looking out onto the ice rink. And they have lockers here ($1 in quarters only), but no one uses them, and instead, they just leave their shoes, coats, bags, etc. all over the ground in piles all over the grimy trash-littered floor. So you walk in, and it looks like someone's closet exploded into an ice skating rink. It was a sensory overload nightmare, basically. But you can ice skate here, so here we were. Pros: They have walker-type stands for kids who don't know how to skate, and you can take them onto the ice and they will prop you up and help you balance on the ice. These are awesome and greatly appreciated. Also, skate rental is $2, which isn't too bad. Cons: The person in charge of keeping people in line (the ref? The ice lifeguard?) was really rude to several people on numerous occasions. It's one thing to tell kids with walkers that they have to stay toward the walls, but she didn't have to bark orders at them like they were purposely doing something wrong. She also kept skating backward and almost hit a child, but then blamed the adult standing by the child for being in her way. It was super bizarre and unnecessarily stressful. read more

TLDR - This place is not friendly to the neurodivergent or those that are first time skaters. It took a lot of encouragement to persuade a young teen to try something new and because of Carmel Ice Skadium he may never get on the ice again. Today was our first and last visit with the Carmel Ice Skadium. We came for public skate. Our first impressions were not great. The venue is filthy. There's a weird smell. There's lots and lots of blood on the ice. We were there hosting a large group of friends to skate and celebrate our son's birthday, so we decided to ignore this and head out to the ice for some fun. The staff is why we will never give our money to this place again. On several occasions they raised their voices to our party. Once because an 8-year old forgot to put on his wristband another time because an 11-year old non-skater asked to use a walker for some extra stability. A third time for "being on the side too long" followed by "being in the middle too long". The kids in our party were very uncomfortable with the way they were treated. As far as they knew they were just skating. The kicker though is when the manager urged one of the employees to confront and verbally assault one of the mothers in our party because her neurodivergent child (13) used a walker for his first time ever on the ice. The employee screamed. He swore. He stormed off the ice in a rage. Then instead of apologizing, the manager (unsure of her name, but she has pink hair) came out and screamed at her as well. Told us we were in the wrong despite the fact that we had been told older kids with a disability would be permitted to use a walker. She threatened to kick us out of the building until I reminded her I had paid for 18 skaters. I actually do not blame the young man that became angry and swore at us. He was clearly following the directions of the manager. She had been feeding him instructions all afternoon. I saw and heard her send him out to confront my friend. This sort of behavior is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. She attempted to completely humiliate the child/mother in front of a group of strangers. It took a lot of encouragement to persuade this child to try something new and because of Carmel Ice Skadium he may never get on the ice again. read more

This was a wonderful way to celebrate School Choice Week with our children's online public school, Indiana Digital Learning School. I was super excited to meet some of their school mates and teachers/staff of the school. With that being said we were all super excited to go ice skating together as a family because we have all been wanting to go ice skating since last winter. Yay for finally making it! Now to the details about this ice skating rink... The staff here were not the friendliest. If this had not been a school activity I honestly probably would have turned around and went to find a different ice rink. The rental skates are in pretty bad shape. I had to ask for a different pair for my 5 year old because the laces weren't even long enough for me to tie them up properly. The attendants were very short with their answers and honestly the customer service was poor. The highlight was their small arcade and it was still pretty sad. Some of the games wouldn't work properly and when you take the tickets you have won to exchange them for prizes there were so many empty prize bins. My overall recommendation would be to skip stopping here altogether and find a different place to ice skate. It pains me to even post this review, but I can't allow our experience to be another family's without them having at least read some of their reviews before making the trip. read more

The organization of skating classes here is a mess, they moved to the Arctic skating place but the way they notified people are just by a piece of paper handed out, and if you missed one class, you wouldn't be able to know when is the next one. This is an average ice house; two rinks makes it good for league play or tournaments. However, it is a bit rundown and a bit shabby looking. Rink 1 is definitely the better of the two rinks as it has viewable seating from the lobby. Today when I was there, though, they had heaters going in the stands so sitting inside the rink wasn't awfully cold. It might have been the first time I've been temperature comfortable in a non-professional rink. This does the job. Nothing special but nothing awful. I've never eaten here nor actually skated here. I've only been here to watch hockey. Probably nothing wrong with the quality of the ice if you want to skate or hold a kid's party but maybe check out the snack options before booking a party. read more

We have been in rink 2 recently for our hockey games..... which is not a great set up for games. They don't have any seating in the rink, you have to stand around by the boards. It is ABSOLUTELY freezing in that rink as well! Rink 1 looks nice with stands for fans to watch the games, but that rink has been used for open skating rather than hockey games. read more

My wife and I visited Carmel ice skatium with another couple for a Saturday night cosmic skate. Yes, I said cosmic. When I suggested the idea I forgot that cosmic translates to young teens looking for a place to make out in the dark. In any case, we went, we skated, and we had a good time. The price was right for a 3 hour skate with rental, but I wish they would have cleaned the ice before the cosmic started. They had hosted about 10 hockey games that day and the ice was destroyed when we started. They did clean it during an intermission later in the evening, but I don't understand why they didn't start our skate with clean ice. I'd provably go back, but not for cosmic. As much fun as it was to watch the teens try to avoid their parents, I'd prefer to skate on clean ice with the lights on. read more

Recently went to the Carmel Ice Skadium for a public skate. At $8 for a public skate ($6.75 for kids under 10 years old) and $3 for a skate rental, it's reasonably priced, but the main rink is old, outdated and dark, as compared to other rinks in the Indy area. There were so many people at the public skate. I probably chose a really popular day to go (the day after Christmas), but it was hard to move and the ice was really torn up. Having so many people there made the experience less enjoyable. read more

The sessions are way too short- 1.5 hours is absolutely ridiculous. If they lasted longer more people would buy food there- bad business model. The rental skates are completely inadequate for little kids- laces are too short or missing, or Velcro that doesn't hold. Prices are ridiculous for what you get. Rental skates are probably 30 years old, rusty and dull. Avoid using them at all costs, you are putting your life in danger if you use them. They carry very few sizes. So bring your own skates if you go there. Wife found a chunk of dirt and lint in her drink inside an ice cube. It was pretty gross, so don't buy a drink there. We weren't brave enough to try Any food there. They have an unmanned game room where over half the games are out of order. I actually would prefer if they didn't bother. Much better rinks to go in a 10-15 mile radius. If you want to take your family skating try another place. read more

Ugh, the past two times I've been to the Ice Skadium I have not been impressed. My son won 2 free passes for public skate and skate rental. We went one night during cosmic skate and they would not allow me to use the public skate passes and pay the difference between the cost of public skate and cosmic skating. Ok, fine, but the manager on duty was actually rude about it when he told me they woudln't accept them. Today my son and I went to the public skate. There was one girl working the front desk and the skate rental and running back and forth between the two. The ice was in deplorable condition. There were actually holes in the ice with water in them that either had water bubbling up or dripping down into them. There were also patches of slushy ice. The ice was very rutted and I don't think a Zamboni has been on it for weeks. The rental skates were so dull that I think they may be considered dangerous. read more

Arrived at 7:30 for the 7:30 open skate. I took 9 girls for a birthday outing. The line was incredibly slow and by the time we reached halfway through the line (about 7:40), the staff came out to say they were already out of size 9 skates and would soon run out of size 7 & 8. Needless to say, we were disappointed. They should consider keeping more skates on hand. read more

Remember to bring your warmest - layers! As soon as you step into the skating area the cold air will hit you like a wall. Not the most glamorous of facilities, but fun and kids do not require much glamor anyway. Rental skates are fine. Snacks are basic: fountain drinks, small pretzels popped into the microwave. Somewhat dark lighting may be contributing to the "not so glamorous" feel. Birthday party facilities available, although we have not tried it out yet. Changing areas are somewhat crowded, shoes piled under the benches. Lockers are available for rent. Overall, all the basics you need to enjoy a couple of hours of skating. read more

They had staff out on the ice but they weren't really enforcing any rules which was good for us because my kids don't usually go with the flow when on skates of any kind :-) I'm sure we'll be back. I remember skating here as a teenager and thinking it was fine, but after experiencing various other rinks over the years, I'd say the ice skadium is definitely in need of an upgrade. As the only place to skate in Carmel, it does the job, but the facility doesn't seem like it's changed at all since the 80s which makes it seem dated. When I went skating this afternoon, not only were they out of my size, but the skates I got one size up were beat up and falling apart. I waited around for my size after realizing that I wouldn't be able to skate, and the pair I eventually got in my size still had an outer layer so worn down that the padding underneath was exposed. Not great. Two stars are for the nice kids working there and the fun Winter Wonderland light show going on. If you go on a weekend afternoon you'll encounter tons of little children on the ice, so be extra careful. read more

Runs out of skate rentals and long lines due primarily to a single card reader that still requires signatures even for low amounts; only one person letting people in, too. My kids loved taking a break from the pool and sun and going ice skating. The only problem is that they let kids practice hockey during public skate. I saw two little kids get plowed down by another kid in full hockey gear, meanwhile the coach is yelling at the kid to skate faster. read more

Took our boys twice over winter break and they loved it. Evenings were a bit crowded and some older kids were skating a bit recklessely, which made me nervous. However my kids, 7 and 9, did great and did not get knocked down. The women's bathroom needed cleaned and was out of toilet paper. They have an arcade room, seating, and a snack bar. Just a tiny bit run down but the price was reasonable and there was plenty of parking. We will go back! read more

Have to admit I was disappointed. I do not consider myself an avid ice skater, yet I was hoping for a better experience when I took my fiancé/second cousin here. We signed up for a public skating session and a skate rental. The staff did not tell me that it was unwise to run my hand along the metal part, causing me to cut my ring finger below the knuckle. The concession stand worker laughed at me! After getting a band-aid out of my truck's first aid kit, I was ready to return to this venue to hit the ice. My fiancé fell twice, so I was disappointed that the ice was hard! Who would have known? I expected it to be soft, like the cool wintry snow of my Amish upbringing in rural Pennsylvania. The smell was the first thing I noticed when I walked in the building. It took me back to middle school when I would go to the "all nighters" at the local skating rink ( you know what I am talking about Britt S). The smell of sweaty feet and popcorn. We were lucky enough to go on a night when they had "Winter Wonderland" skating- lights off and a few Christmas trees scattered on the edges. Its about $10 per person and you can skate for as long as "free skate" is available. The actual rink was much colder than I expected and I wished I would have brought gloves. My date and I went around a few times and then called it quits. I think we were there for a total of 30 mins. Overall it was a good time and I am glad we can mark it off our winter to do list. read more

Yes I am 24 years old and went to cosmic skating with my wife for a date night. This was such a fun place and very clean compares to previous places I went to in high school. I'm not as young and in shape as I once was because my feet hurt for days after. The skates weren't in the best working order, but I exchanged mine for a little newer pair with no complaints. The ice was a little rough to begin and half way through the nice they brought the Zamboni to clean it up which helped. I appreciated the police man in the lobby to prevent the swarms of teenagers from getting to bold. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a little unconventional date night and it was only $7 a person. read more

This is where I learned to slate from an ex-Olympic coach. Even now when I fall on the ice I can hear the encouragement she'd give me while speaking in her thick Russian accent. Anyway, the business itself is great for offering group and private lessons with very qualified teachers. The facilities are a bit old and in need of purging from that sweaty sock smell, but serve their purpose well-enough. We were here for a men's BEER LEAGUE hockey tournament and I was not impressed. Yes, it has two sheets of mediocre-average ice but one of the rinks literally has only 2 benches of seating. The building is old, dated and is in desperate need of a face lift. There's paint chipping off the walls, the faucets in the restrooms literally need to have the calcium/lyme chipped off of them and the ceilings above the rinks aren't even ceilings. They're some sort of old, draped, grey sheeting that you can see the insulation hanging off the edges and ready to fall out. Let's hope there's no asbestos when it does. I hope their rental skates are in better condition :/ Our team said the drain in the showers was clogged with a hole drilled in the floor next to the drain. Not sure if that's up to code either... The location is good which is why I was very surprised to see a police officer there ALL weekend (nice that the taxpayers footed that bill). During the last scheduled game of Saturday night (remember when I said it was a beer league? All teams got a case of beer after each game), a man complained to the police office that the language was getting "foul" in the rink and asked him to go stand by the bench of spectators. We were leaving at that time and I was absolutely astounded. It's HOCKEY. Beer league hockey. I've never been to a hockey game where there WASN'T foul language. I said, out loud, "Wow, really??" and the man turned around and said "Yeah really, there's kids in there and I am the owner." Well Mr. Owner, if you don't want foul language in your "zero tolerance" rink, don't schedule men's beer leagues. This is common sense; hockey is a game of fist fights and four-letter words. You had no problem taking their money so if you're gonna continue to take the money, at least do some repairs on the building. It's a dump. read more
