I have an appt that passed 45 mins ago. I am the ONLY customer waiting for an appraisal. They are rude and uncooperative. After pestering me with text messages all day in advance of my appointment to "discuss" my appraisal appt NO ONE would actually come and DO the appraisal. Required ME to open the car doors from the outside for THEM claiming COVID. Wear gloves is my thought .....! Provided them with original sticker with all equipment information and yet they preferred to ask me about what equipment was and wasn't on the car. I declined. 1. They are looking at the car ..... 2. They have the original mfgs sticker in their hands. I wasn't planning for this appraisal to be a group project with me as the expert of the group. So 5:30 appt. 6:25 and still waiting on the written offer. Auto inspection five mins ....... I corrected equipment they missed visually and was specified in writing on the sticker. I showed them where equipment was located (in plain sight) both on the car and on the sticker. They recorded this equipment wasn't on the car until I showed it to them. Be careful. Read every line on the offer and look for missing items. It's not easy because all it states is what is there ...... not what's not - moon roof, upgraded sound equipment, heated seats etc all add value. The absence or presence of the physical equipment on your vehicle isn't subjective. It's there or it's not. They crawled all over the inside of the car but left all 4 doors wide open for me to close for THEM after they were "done". Disappeared again. 10 mins, max 15 mins and well ........ that has come and gone. Made written offer, I accepted. Now they want me To do their mechanical inspection with/for THEM. Confused. Didn't you just hand me a written offer ? Never mind I'm sure it's in the extra small fine print. How long will this take - they just don't know it depends on how busy they are........the managers don't know how busy they are? Neither one knows? You've crawled all over my car with me in it, no gloves and now you need me to close the doors behind you, and drive the car to you at your next inspection point - COVID precautions was the claim again. Hmmmmmm really? 5:30 appt and it's now 7:00 pm, waiting for someone to acknowledge that I've driven the car to them in the inspection bay for a mechanical check. I was able to see how busy they are - no one else here. Twenty mins waiting and still no one has acknowledged I'm here. Seriously? 4 mins to test drive and 15 mins to write up appraisal is the estimated wait. 5:30 appt ...... now 7:30 and waiting. No one else in line and now 7 45 ......: waiting.waiting , waiting. Finally left with check in hand at 8:00. Appt 5:30. NO ONE else in bays, appt parking places ..... just me. I've sold a car here before and had a great Experience. Tonight? Well I would trade my car at a dealership or sell it outright myself. Two employee exceptions. The Salesperson didn't know what he was doing and he's been there since 2013... you would think because their location is bigger, they would know more plus the place was soo warm...Never going here again. 5 Days after we bought our 2005 Explorer the Engine Service Light came on... Carmax gave us a service appointment within two days and got everything fixed for free within a couple days. 4 days after the 30 Day warranty ran out, the motor started to squeak... After a look under the hood it turned out, that one of the pulleys that run the serpentine belt came apart... I called Carmax and the service agent provided me with a appointment and the number of their preferred toeing company. They picked the Ford up the same day. Two days later the car was fixed and because it was so close to the warranty they even covered my deductible on the extended service plan... I was very surprised about that and reassured me that even though the car was more expensive than it might have been at an other cardealer, they really do stand behind every sold vehicle. I would like to file a formal complaint against Carmax for deceptive lending and deceptive sales practices. Their business practices and negligence also have the potential to adversely impact my credit profile. I have outlined my experience with Carmax below. Please note this matter is still ongoing and unresolved. On May 23, 2022 I had my vehicle, a 2020 Audi A5 appraised at the Carmax in Irving, Texas. I was provided a trade-in quote in the amount of $41,100. I was informed by the appraiser and as stated on the document that the quote was good for 7 days. I was also informed by the appraiser and document that I could save thousands of dollars by selling my vehicle to Carmax and purchasing another from them in the same transaction. Learning this cost/tax saving option really motivated me and prompted me to purchase another vehicle from Carmax within the 7-day window. That evening I located (online) a 2018 BMW 440i at Carmax's North Houston location. The vehicle's advertised sale price was $37,998. I reserved the vehicle and placed it on hold to test drive. On May 24, 2022 I drove from Dallas, Texas (where I reside) to Houston, Texas to test drive the vehicle. I arrived around noon and was greeted by an associate at the front desk. I waited a few minutes and was then helped by Jonathan Penney, Sales Associate. The test drive was great, and I decided to move forward with purchasing the vehicle. Jonathan and I began working on the credit application. I provided Jonathan with the copy of my vehicle appraisal. He informed me because I had it appraised at a different dealership, he had to reissue it. When it was reissued it changed the date to May 24, 2022 in Carmax's system. I am not sure why it needed to be reissued when the appraisal states it is valid for 7 days at any Carmax location. As Jonathan and I were moving through the credit application screens he asked me what the payoff for my trade-in (Audi) was. I explained to him it was a leased vehicle and the consumer payoff is $31,000. Once that information was entered Jonathan asked me if I would like to put any money down. I explained to him yes, but how much depends what the dealer payoff amount is. Jonathan said it's okay we will use the payoff we entered. I said okay, I will put down $750.00. We proceeded completing the credit application and I was approved by Ally Financial. I accepted Ally's approval. Jonathan and I electronically signed all of the loan/vehicle documents. Jonathan congratulated me and said he would get the vehicle ready for me to drive home. He also took the license plates off the Audi and allowed me to clear out my personal items from the vehicle. During my time with Jonathan I also requested he delete my old phone number (ending in 2331) from my profile. I explained my frustration with him that Carmax has attempted to use that phone number to contact me after I have been trying to have them remove it for years. I have provided Carmax with my correct phone number (ending in 2055) several times over the years and several times through this experience. I waited for about 45 minutes for the final copies of my documents. Jonathan escorted me to the service bay where my new vehicle (BMW) was awaiting. He handed me the keys, I placed my personal items in the BMW and we were just waiting for the copies of my final documents. About another 20 minutes pass and Jonathan tells me there is a hiccup with the payoff figures and for me to wait because management is resolving it. Another hour and a half passed. Jonathan explains to me Carmax is going to do a sale exception and what that means is that all of the electronic paperwork I completed is void and I now need to sign all of the same documentation via hard copy wet signatures. I said okay and we proceeded to sign all of the paperwork. Jonathan explained to me that the business office manager would call me within the next few days and the finalized paperwork would be sent to me via mail. He informed me everything will be fine, the car is mine and I drove home to Dallas. On June 6, 2022 I still had not received any communication/documentation from Carmax. I texted Jonathan at 9:37am requesting an update on my paperwork. He responded at 10:05am and stated to give him a minute and he will have someone look into it. On June 8, 2022 at 10:28am I finally heard back from Jonathan stating my paperwork had ben sent to the Dallas location and that he was following up on the status of the paperwork and also awaiting a tracking number. He also stated he would keep me updated. On Jun 10, 2022 I had not heard back from Jonathon so I texted him at 9:13am requesting an update. I did not receive a response, so I texted him on Carmax's automated texting number at 11:11am. I requested an update. I bought my car less than a year ago , used for $40,000. I paid $800 non refundable shipping fee , from the pictures everything looks fine, but when I got it there was dog hair all over , dog scrathes all over. They told me it was never wrecked or had any problems.. I just went to get it appraised and my appraisal says there was prior paint work on the passenger quarter. When my fiancé asked them about it 9 months ago they said nothing happened, and "don't worry about it." So I bring back the car in today for the appraisal, they offer me $25,000. That's ridiculous and a joke, the car is in the same condition that I bought it in. I've gotten all new tires and an alignment. I've gotten every service recommendation from the Lexus dealership, and put more than $10,000 into it. I traded in my M3 and a F150 that was newer than the Lexus , and they offered me more than $25,000 for both of those cars. When I bought my car from carmax I looked past the dog scrathes and the other scrathes because I wouldn't get my shipping fee back, so I had no choice to look past it or give up $800. When I asked why they didn't tell me about the dog scrathes they said I had to ask. Why should I ask? Why wouldn't I want to know that. It seemed like 9 months ago everyone wanted to work with me, and now no one wants to work with me. They have my same car on their website for 45,000. They told me the market went down, but all their cars are overpriced. I was going to trade my car in and buy a newer one from car max, but now I don't think so.. Went in just to sell a secondary vehicle, wasn't sure on what type of offer to expect because I hear a lot of people saying that CarMax usually offers low amounts for your vehicle while also not being sure of the market because of covid-19. To my surprise the offer was on the higher end of KBB, and also about $500 more than the offer I received from Texas direct auto over two years ago . The process was fast .. took about 45 for the appraisal( was inside the store for about 10 minutes total) waited at my car to open doors, hood, etc so the appraiser didn't have to touch the car & and I waited at the car for like 30 minutes after for them to bring the offer . When I decided to sell it took again about 30-45 minutes to sign what I had to sign and receive a check. My story is a long one! Let me start by saying myself and my other half have purchased 6 vehicles from Carmax from 2005 to now and we have always been extremely pleased. Out of these 6 cars, 3 have been purchase in states other than our own. I currently live in Scottsdale Arizona so I went to the Scottsdale location first. Unfortunately, they didn't have the vehicle I wanted but that was ok considering I had already found a few I liked within a 1000-mile radius. The nice sales associate offered that care of the appraisal on my trade-in to help expedite the process and I accepted. I figured I would be conducting a long-distance transaction so express pick up was very attractive. Fast forward to Friday and I find a vehicle in Houston and start the purchase process. First "system error", my appraisal has expired after 4 days, interesting considering they should be good for 7 days. I submit the information for the appraisal again, including all the required pictures. By Saturday, we have all the financing finished, I choose the finance company and submitted all the documentation required by early afternoon. I hear nothing back for the rest of the day, then the store is closed on Sundays. Monday morning, I get a call from a Houston store sales associate, Hector. Hector informs me that not only was the vehicle taking off hold but there was (second error) System error and they don't have my financing approvals or my documentation. Hector then informs me that I need to do the whole transaction again, including having credit run again. I was very frustrated but went through the process again. During this process I expressed my concerns and Hector put me in touch with Dominique Dugas, Sales Manager, because wanted documentation that everything was complete, and I wouldn't have any problems picking up the caught vehicle after driving across three states and over 1000 miles. At this time, I'm told by Dominique that they can not provide any confirmation paperwork or any paperwork at all until after the purchase. This is all in email. He did provide a screenshot of their database showing the financing information, but no clear documentation. Dominique also stated that the vehicle would be cleaned and ready for pick up as well as the paperwork would be ready to sign since I opted for express pick up. Please remember, the paperwork and financing were completed on 9/14/21, my appointment was scheduled for 9/16/21 at 3 pm. My sister and I headed to Houston, Texas on Wednesday 9/15/21. Around 500 miles into our trip I get a call from Hector informing me that the navigation screen isn't working, and it will take a few days for it to be fixed. I find this very concerning considering the Carmax 125-point inspection and certified preowned advertisements. At this point, I had to adjust client appointments because I going to need to stay in Houston longer than expected. A couple of hours late Hector calls again and tells me the screen is fine, the service techs didn't know the screen goes into sleep mode when the hidden lockbox is open. Disaster diverted, or so I thought. Thursday morning comes and I realize I will be arriving earlier than expected and I reach out to Hector and let him know just in case I can get in and out earlier. When I arrived, it was around 1:30 pm and I checked in with reception and Hector was paged. After waiting about an hour, I check back in and I'm told he won't be able to help me until 3 pm because he is unavailable, which is perfectly ok since I was an hour and a half early. 3 pm comes and goes and finally I meet Hector and apparently, he has more paperwork to do and I can't test drive the vehicle yet because it's being cleaned and brought upfront. The time passes to 4:30 and I'm still waiting on paperwork and a test drive. As a side note, at this point I have been at the store for over 3 hours and not one person offered water, beverage, or anything... Close to 5 pm I'm told the vehicle must have caught a nail in the parking lot on the way to the test drive and need to be repaired. I'm given a $25 vis gift card for my trouble. Then after waiting more I found out the vehicle has locking lug nuts and Carmax doesn't have the key. Now I'm wondering how that got passed the inspection... We are then approached by the General Manager Scott Kruse. I was already familiar with who was because I always feel more comfortable making large purchases if I know the company chain of command, just in case I ever need the information. When Scott Kruse approached he didn't bother to qualify whom he should be speaking to, unfortunately, he went directly to my sister (who is of Scottish and Irish descent) rather than me (I'm Puerto Rican, French, and Nigerian) which immediately made me feel profiled. I made an appointment to take my car to Carmax after getting a valuation on line. The appointment was confirmed by telephone and by E mail by Carmax within 24 hours of my appointment. When I drove up for my appointment, at the start of the awful Texas weather, I was told the Carmax was closed !!! So I tried again a week later as I was informed on paper my vehicle's for sale valuation was still good. I was then offered a full $3,000 less than Carmax's own valuation. NOTE - went to CARVANA the next morning as I also had a valuation from them which was within $50 of the one from Carmax. Went to Carmax to purchase a car with my daughter. This was her first car purchase and I was pretty sure she would need a co-signer. After 4 hrs she purchased the car only to find out 3 weeks later that we had to re-do the paperwork because of a social security issue - whatever that means. We had to go back to the dealer; complete the return car paperwork then redo the purchase paperwork. 3 hours later we purchased the same car again. In my adult years I've always used a broker and had my new car delivered to me because this whole car buying experience is annoying. There does not seem to be an urgency with anyone around here. Would not recommend this dealership. My daughter now sees that having a broker is the way to go. We were offered a $25 gift certificate but I would take efficiency any day. I have cameras in my vehicle that recorded there service team using my vehicle to drive to their personal house for lunch break and also drive around so they can go take a smoke break. And so my vehicle got all scratched up in the parking lot and it's Public parking so they wound fix any of the damages to my vehicle. I got my car about 7 days ago and already the transmission is messed up, it was pulling to the right when driving after 3 days and I got stranded because my car wouldn't read my key! My car was fairly new 4 years old VW and In really good shape on the exterior but for all of this to be going on already after only a week is ANNOYING, EXHAUSTING, and AGGRAVATING!! I probably made a mistake buying a car here but we'll see how it does after the warranty pays for all of this needed work. I recently bought a car from this store and it broke down... after taking time out of my busy schedule to remain available to me throughout the process, they treated me with very horrible service. I asked them could I get my items out of my car because they was supposed to get me a new one. They gave me the belongings out my car inside a trashbag. He was very patient with us which is a big deal because I was looking for Priuses and my wife was looking for SUVs. Visited the Spring location on two different occasions to appraise 2 cars. Worked with consultant Renee C. in both instances (appraisers were Desmond S. & Brian M.). For both visits, scheduled the appointment online and met promptly upon arrival. On the first visit, it took about 30-40 minutes (weekend appointment). During my wait I just surfed online at one of their terminals. I ultimately didn't sell, but the offer was on the high end of the KBB range (Very good condition, trade-in value). On the second visit, I had a different car appraised. Again, took about 30-40 minutes (weekday appointment) and offer was also on the high end of KBB. On this occasion I decided to sell. There was another 45-60 minute wait to get paperwork completed. The car still had a lien (still being financed), so they had to contact my financial institution for the payoff amount and to release title to them. I can't speak for buying a vehicle from CarMax, but if you're looking to sell a popular branded vehicle (Honda, Toyota, BMW, MB, etc..) in good condition (within 10 years of model year), the process is relatively short. I came to car max after having experiences so bad at two other dealerships as to be almost comical. Jesus greeted me at the door and asked me what I was looking for. Amazingly when I told him the car style and price range, he took me to EXACTLY what I was looking for, not a car that cost 3000-5000 more like the other dealerships. I wanted to trade in my old car as well, so I looked up the blue book value beforehand to get a rough idea of what I could expect. Carmax actually gave me the entire KBBV on it, and I was able to use it as a down payment. Jesus was relaxed, not pushy at all, and was able to beat the financing rate that I had previously been approved for. I really can't imagine buying a car anywhere else. After the 1st test drive our salesman went inside to get a key for the 2nd SUV. Finally found a car dealership I could deal with. After several negative and downright awful experiences with regular car dealerships, I finally took the advice of friends and went to carmax. Everything was smooth, even though I had an issue with a third party check for payment, which they don't accept. Even still, the sales rep found a way to make it work for me. From the online process of reserving a vehicle for a test drive to the friendly sales rep (Martelle Hudson) to the finance/paperwork person to the finance process itself was flawless. Even with a snag, the deal took about 2 hours from test drive to drive out...I spent about 8 hours fighting with "regular" car dealerships over the last week with no results. I would highly recommend Carmax as a very viable alternative to going to a dealership. The no haggle pricing makes it so stress-free. The prices really are just as good if not better than most vehicles at the dealership, and it's quick. So far I am very happy with the decision. Not to mention they were understaffed and it was busy they honestly did their best making sure we being taken care of. The sales person Solomon did an amazing job!!! Their service department is the most unprofessional department I have ever spoken too. I purchase a vehicle on Thursday (6 days ago) and the vehicle wouldn't start last night, engine light on this morning. Although I purchase from another Carmax, this location was much closer. I called and she told me the earliest they could see me was 16 days away. I told her I just purchased the car a few days ago... what if it doesn't start or breaks down... she told me "then call a tow truck." I was livid. I didn't just buy a car not to be able to drive it for 16 days!! Can you imagine the damage I would do if I did drive it and it was something major! I called the other Carmax and they were helpful and professional... I can't even imagine how they do business like that at the North location. read more

I purchased a new vehicle last month and was delighted at the process. I did everything online before I went. Made an appointment with a salesperson. I think his name was Jazzi. He was amazing. He showed me several vehicles and i choose one and was out the door within an hour. I would highly recommend Carmax. read more

I will never buy another vehicle from Carmax, I highly suggest you go to a dealer. I show up with my car on a tow truck and the people in the service department prove to be the most unprofessional people I've dealt with ever. Finally one person decides to actually get up and look out the window and notice my vehicle is a Mitsubishi and tells me I need to go to the dealership instead. Thank god for the tow truck driver who was down here due to the storm having the decency to get me across town to the dealership. They may not haggle you on the price but, lord forbid you actually need help from these people... read more

Okay..I have never been to a Carmax as long as they have been opened! I went in with a print out of what I wanted to test drive, 2010 Ford Escape! I met with Chris when I walked in and he was very helpful and nice. Since you cannot haggle, they do their best to sell that car to you. I felt comfortable and not pressured really at all. read more
