After my purchase, I can honestly say this was my best car buying experience. The no haggle approach saved us time, the website inventory was current, and the Carmax values are something that they stand by. We purchased after visiting a couple places. William, in sales, wasn't pushy & was very hospitable. The sales manager, Richard, sealed my deal up. Even the young lady in service I spoke with by phone took the time to answer all my questions. After this, I'll probably even do my services here. They gave us the time we needed to talk as a family and after we knew what we wanted, they executed in a timely fashion...Twice. Thank you. read more

Firstly, reserving a vehicle here was a simple process, and they actually had it held for three days before I was able to be there. Paul was assigned to us in the car buying process, and was the best car salesman I've ever dealt with. Not because he sold me that car, but because after we decided that the car we had on hold wasn't for us, he stayed there for us when we decided to check out another carmax. What I mean by this is that he took the time to reserve and hold the next car we had in our sight manually for us. Paul also reserved us some others that were similar and kept me up to date with calling me on our route to our next carmax on each one! When we arrived in kennesaw, Paul took the time to talk to our new salesman and tell him everything we had told Paul about what we were looking for in a car. Not only was Paul friendly, he was knowledgeable, caring, considerate and helpful for me, my wife and my daughter as we were in need for a second car! read more

Would give zero stars if it were possible. This place may someday be ok but as it is now: no one seems to have any idea how the business works or how to do customer service. After problem after problem for several days and attempt to buy a vehicle finally just walked away and bought elsewhere. read more

BEWARE! Do not buy your car from here! Experience was nothing "like car buying should be." While on the car lot, after inspecting every part of my car that I could visibly see I informed the sales person of the a missing part on the drivers side door as well as a missing navigation SD card. Mind you the navigation on the car was a big plus when looking for a car. So driving off the lot without it was ridiculously inconvenient to me. They didn't let me drive off without me paying them, but somehow they let me drive off with half the features on my car inactive. Funny how that works! So he put in a service request & said that it should take 2-3 business days & I would need to drive back out to the dealership to get it installed correctly. Cool, but the dealership is an hour away, & what do I get for the inconvenience? Nothing! Fast forward almost 3 weeks later & I have yet to receive a call stating that my part was ready. So I had to call only to be disconnected 3 times then being told that the part has been there for a couple days & they "haven't gotten around" to calling me. So I schedule my appt for the earliest time the next day only to be told on that day that they don't have any appt in their system for that time!!! So I just made up a random time to drive an hour out??? What? Really? When explaining my frustration the sales lady sat on the phone like a polite programmed robot not showing any compromise or compassion stating "I can schedule you for 3pm today." Wait what? How is that good news? How did we go from 10am to 3pm? Who usually has their entire day open waiting for something like this to happen??? It's ridiculous. Who's doing the hiring? POINT IS: When your purchasing a 20,000$ dollar item there shouldn't be many flaws and if there is; there should at least be an effort made to try to correct them. That wasn't offered here at CarMax Buford. Take your money elsewhere. Trust me this could've happened to anyone. It probably will or some variation of it will/has happen to everyone. I regret buying here & im currently searching for other options. ***Being that I'm young & my friends are young & graduating college, starting new lives & always looking for new cars, this will never be a place I recommend. I actually suggest them stay FAR away & im extremely vocal about that! read more

I very rarely leave reviews but the staff here was the most unhelpful and unprofessional I have encountered. My car broke down right next to car max so I took that as a sign. I went in with the intention of selling my car and buying a new one that day. I started trying an hour before they closed. There were multiple salesmen and not a single customer in the store. They each took turns going to their manager about it and made me wait while I watched them just sit and chat with this manager. They did this for 50 minutes!!! And finally come back to tell me they close in 10 minutes and they can't do anything for me because it's a 3 hour deal to buy a car from someone. I told them that I will not be purchasing a car from them. read more

I had a Nissan 370z shipped in from Birmingham. I asked them to check two components before they shipped. My salesman assured me the vehicle is mechanically sound. And it goes through a 125 Point inspection. Apparently, customers don't get to see the results of this 125 Point inspection. It's for "internal use only". Ask them. I guarantee they won't show you. Ok fine whatever. No big deal. I'll do my own inspection after the car gets here. Turns out. Wouldn't let me do a pre-purchase inspection on the vehicle. Told me it was insurance reasons. The car ended up being a lemon and I'm guessing they probably knew before I bought it. Probably on their "internal 125 point inspection form" I asked them to inspect two components in the vehicle before I bought it. It literally takes ten seconds to test this component on a lift and they don't have to take anything off the car. They kept refusing to do it. I asked to take it to the Nissan dealership before I buy it. They refused. IF THEY WON'T LET YOU DO A PRE PURCHASE INSPECTION AT THE DEALERSHIP, DON'T BUY THE CAR. It's cheap and it'll save you a ton of headache. Turns out the part that I was stressing about was actually broken. I specifically said, if either of these components aren't in working condition, I don't want the car. What a waste of time and money. "Don't buy the car unless you really want it." He said. "Inspect the car for me." "You can buy the car, do an inspection and return it." Fine. Carmax's "hassle free car buying" turned into the biggest hassle I've ever gone through to buy a car. Also, if you're a minority, I have a Korean name. I'm not Korean. I don't speak Korean nor do I know anything about Korean culture. At All. My salesman kept speaking to me in what I think was his interpretation of the Korean language and telling me how he used to live in Korea and how he was an actor in Korea after I told him I don't speak Korean and repeatedly told him that I have no idea what he's talking about. It was incredibly awkward because I'm certain he's not Korean. I asked just to be sure. Really. No clue what he was saying half the time I was there. It was just incredibly awkward and unprofessional. He asked a lot of personal questions. But he was very professional over the phone, text, and email. It was quite a shock. read more

They say they go on a review and check everything but when you purchase the car they will prolong until your 90 days is up then they'll say you have to do it yourself Put you on hold for more than 30 minutes to an hour When you address the situation at the time they don't take it seriously and just wait until the 90 days So you have to come out of pocket for things that should've already been done and then when you buy a car from them they'll just tell you it's a used car Disregarding any issues with the car They talk to you with disrespect and no manners Do I just let your car sit there and just say they're waiting on parts But then when you get onto them all the sudden the part just shows up the same day and when you buy the car they say they do the expections but they don't change the oil or any fluids in the car and when you address them at the time they'll just tell you they didn't reset the computer and still do nothing about it and then they'll say you exceeded your 90 days when you told him two weeks of purchasing the car read more

The experience I had here was beyond excellent. No bait and switch. Gave me a fair price for my old car and applied to the contract on the new car. Very professional and the car was in pretty good shape. I know they are busy but they still need to make sure the car was cleaned up and ready to go when the customer reserves it for showing. I got a service order to repair the inside door handle on the car. However, the price was good and the car was exactly what I was looking. Would have given 4 starts if the car wasn't dirty and the door handle had been repaired. The sales rep was excellent and so was the staff and management. Internet sales rep Jon Krier is one of the best most patient internet sales person I've ever worked with. Made sure I understood everything. read more

My sales person Mary Jo was amazing only reason why I'm giving any stars at all. Their service is horrible at this location. I bought a car that had a messed up right side mirror didn't even know tell I was about to drive away with the car. The repair service people scheduled and appt to fix It w/o telling me the day. I didn't know till the day of that I even had an appt for the repair! When I called to reschedule no one ever answers the phone at that department. When I just went to another department to even get on the phone with someone the just supposedly wrote my name down to give to them for them to call me back. THEY NEVER DID. plus when I first got the car I wanted the carmax decal off the forgot to take It off so I came back to have It removed. The lady at the repair department told me I would have to wait a hr to get this the small decal off because they were going to lunch @12 but It was 11 when I came. My sales person Mary Jo ended up taking It off with water and peeling It with her nails. Which only took 2mins so i don't know why the repair people couldn't do that simple task. they even gave me the WRONG temp tag w/someone elses name and vehicle as well as thats persons registration. THIS LOCATION IS A JOKE. I have even more to say but this review is long enough. Moral of the story take your business else where. read more

Do not trust this Car Max! In June 2021, I purchased from them a one-owner 2018 Hyundai Sonata Ltd. for about $25,000. At that time, I was told by the salesman that the Auto Check report (Car Max's substitute for a Car Fax report) was perfectly clean, and the hard copy of the report provided to me confirmed that. I fully understood that the report would cover only damage reported to the police or an insurance company, and that was confirmed by the report itself. I was NOT warned by Car Max or the report that the report might not include some claims made to an insurance company. Yesterday, my insurance company (Progressive) told me that FOUR insurance claims were made by the previous owner for various types of damage to my car. Progressive provided me the name of the insurance company (USAA), the exact dates of the FOUR previous claims, and the details of the damage covered by each claim. I called Car Max and ended up speaking about the matter with a fellow named Barry, who I believe is a manager in the business office. Barry was a full-on jerk to me and even had the gall to claim that I was the one at fault for relying on Car Max and Auto Check to determine all of the previous insurance claims made regarding my car! Next week, I will be writing the Better Business Bureau to file against Car Max a complaint alleging a deceptive sales practice. I am confident that neither Barry nor his boss will enjoy dealing with the BBB, which I know from personal experience takes very seriously allegations of deceptive sales practices. read more

Ridiculous. I was buying my first car from this place. Super excited. 3 days later had to bring it to the shop. Later on I found out it had been in an accident I was unaware of. And on top of that it has been in the shop for a total of 3 weeks now. Not due to damages. Due to incompetence. They never call back. If they do it's because I called earlier in the day. The information given about your vehicle is probably a myth. Terrible service. Wanted buying my first car to be exciting but it was a shit show. Won't be recommending or purchasing another vehicle from this place. read more

Bought my daughter 2015 Rogue for 19,999. Supposedly you pay an inflated price for a car that Has been thoroughly looked over by a mechanic and 30 day guarantee. The drain on the sunroof Was clogged and was not checked by mechanic. Car FLOODED. Entire interior saturated and smelled awful. They used the warranty we paid for to "repair" it was a 2 week patch job. Refused To replace headliner. We had said we will buy another vehicle if you give us a good trade in price. They give us a trade in value 1,500 below what we paid and we lost the money on taxes (1,200) AND her 2,000 trade in. We looked at the car-stained and stunk. There was no way we were taking that back. We walked away with over 4,000 loss. Now I see same vehicle, same vin at 19999 at one of their Other locations. What a RIP OFF. BEWARE. We had the car 3 months. I understand business, but there was no integrity in this at all. RIPOFF! read more

I was told by Brett that he would hold a vehicle for me for a week but he did not. He never called to let me know that he sold it and then he had the audacity to say it was mandatory to get an extended warranty. Several other employees confirmed that was a lie. I had second sales rep that was helpful and was able to still help me find a similar vehicle. Even though I had a decent experience with the second representative I still will not be recommending the Buford Carmax location. read more

I visited this location yesterday with my family and I must say, I am very disappointed. We arrived at 6:56pm. As we walked in we were promptly greeted and asked if we were just looking or needed a rep. We initially said just looking , then we said that we actually wanted to meet with a rep. We were informed that there was a 30 minute wait which we didn't mind because this gave us time time to look over the lot. We found 3 vehicles that we really liked . 2 we were interested in possibly just buying out right and another we would have financed . We had already secured financing. We waited until 8:05 and decided to go inside . Most customers had left and there were several employees either just sitting at their desks or standing around . We waiting a few moments and no one said anything to us. I called to speak to a manager and the manager (Andrew) told us that they can inky engage with one customer at a time and that's why they were all just standing around. I asked where we were in the waitlist and he said something similar to " I'm not sure , I would have to check but right now I'm busy helping someone with a finance ". Lol entire experience was a joke and waste if my time. I will not be shipping with this company going forward . Smh read more

I started the process online and was able to get pre approved for financing. I looked at the website and was able to pick a car I was interested in. At that point, Iyana Gifford called me and was able to get me a car specific approval. She requested a transfer from another location, and within 4 days (including a holiday) the car was ready for me to test drive. I was sent a text that the car was ready to meet, and made a same day appointment. At the dealership, Robbie reviewed the car report, and confirmed the car had no recalls. After that, we did a test drive, had the insurance card faxed over. Elijah reviewed the paperwork with me while I signed and within 1.5 hours of arriving, I was getting my picture taken with my new car, and a big yellow bow. This experience could not have been better. Go online, get approved, find your car, then test drive, sign and drive. It could not have been easier. We bought a car late 2016 for our 18 year old son from CarMax in Buford. The challenge was they did not meet customer service and expectation. In fact they failed that department. After 2 months and only 2,000 miles of driving, we have to replace the tires. We questioned it today with the General Manager, Karl. He came to the conclusion we had 3/32 of tread left and the NTSB says 2/32 tread ware, cars are not safe and should be replaced. Karl established CarMax sold us the car with 4/32 of tire tread remaining which ironically is the the CarMax business standard to replace tires based on tread ware. The sales person at the time of the sale said our tires were in great condition and we had miles and miles to go. I questioned Karl and he stated that the price of the car was reflective of the poor tires. No way to know for sure because it was never mentioned at the time of sale. Perhaps CarMax was within the right to sell the vehicle legally, but they did not behave ethically. A simple notification at sale that the tires were close to repair instead of praising the quality of the tire considering it was at the lowest CarMax (4/32 tread) would allow themselves to sell a car off their lot. Had they offered to replace the tires and include in the loan we would have been fine with it. A little more honesty instead of throwing it under the rug and leaving for the customer to discover a short time later that they blew smoke at us. Anyway, it's not the right way to do business. They should have been upfront and honest and they are the experts and not the consumer. As a contractor, i always advise my customers the simply facts and take it or leave it. I guess Karl and CarMax valued the sale over complete honesty and disclosure. We would not recommend buying from this lot as they are not honest until we questioned them after the fact and backed them into a corner. We will replace the tires on our own, but it could have been handled better and different by CarMax in Buford. Tom read more

I have not had but one issue after another dealing with the CarMax in Buford. The sales experience was good. However, I requested a wheel to be replaced due to damage at the sale. It was agreed upon and I purchased the vehicle. The replacement wheel came in about a week and a half later. The parts manager advised me that it would be mid to late month before he could schedule me to come in. I asked he could ship the wheel to me and I would have it put on. To spare myself the hour trip back to the dealership. When the wheel arrived it was the wrong size. After agreeing to come in and have the correct wheel replaced. I took off a morning from work. What should have been a 30 minute process turned in to me leaving my vehicle for the entire weekend. When I got my car back the wheel was an after market part. After driving for 1 mile the pressure gage went off on the wheel that was replaced. As I inspected the wheel I noticed the center cap had came off and the tire only had 29 psi when it should have been at the least 40. I am beyond frustrated with the entire process! Highly doubt I will ever use the service department again even though I purchased the extended warranty. read more

If you are looking for the absolute worst car buying experience then CarMax Buford is your place! The management team exhibits a level of incompetence that is hard to fathom. With all the car buying options in Buford steer far away from CarMax. I had multiple problems with a BMW convertible during the 90 day warranty period. The repairs took 31 days and I was repeatedly lied to by the service department. I was told the repairs were being made by BMW of Gwinnett Place, however when I demanded to see the invoice CarMax had a local shop perform the repairs, not a dealership. The GM, Karl Wagner does not have enough talent to manage a youth sports team, much less a car dealership. Beware! read more

I will never buy a car at any place other than CarMax. They leave you alone unless you ask questions, the prices are on all the vehicles, and you don't have to deal with the typical car salesman. My salesman was Kevin and he did a great job! Also Sabrina in the service department did an amazing job and she is definitely good at what she does.
