This is our third car through car max. This time it was my son buying his first car. We love using CarMax because the process is so easy. You can get approved and do everything on line. No salesmen hounding you, no going back and fourth on the price. Prices are always comparable and priced correctly. They do only sell used car. They provide the entire car history. Most cars I think are from retired fleet cars and or rentals. We have never had an issue. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They also have a service d department. CarMax makes buying a car easy and simple. I don't think I'd ever go to a dealer again. Jeff is the general manager, he is very friendly, inviting and helpful with questions. I recently called Carmax to sell them my dead father's vehicle. I was told if the car was not registered then they would only buy it as an inoperable vehicle. After I got the truck registered, carmax's offer went down $3,000 because once you get your initial offer, it's only good for a week and it took more time than that for me to be able to get to the dmv and get it registered. Wanting to get through the estate process as quickly as possible and not procrastinate, I sold them the vehicle at the new quote (which was a very easy and pleasant process and the reason I'm not giving one star). I have since learned that in New York State, you do not need a current registration to sell them the vehicle as confirmed by a Carmax agent and even though I sold them the truck just a few weeks ago, the contract I signed stated that it was a final sale and the estate is out $3,000 because of wrong information given to me by a Carmax employee. I would hope that a business that solely buys and sells cars would train their employees correctly to pass on correct information to their customers. read more

Is zero stars possible? Where do I even start with this review. Con: Doesn't open until 11AM Con: Sales workers do not care at all, have no background in car sales. (worked with three individuals) Con: Cannot talk to anyone directly unless you have an extension. Con: Even if you do call you never get a straight answer. Con: High overhead, cars are marked higher than they need to be (even in this market). Con: Don't expect to negotiate pricing. Con: Vehicle had over 2,000+ more miles than what was disclosed online! Con: Vehicle did not have two features it claimed to have online! Scenario 1: Vehicle sat for 10 business days without inspection. Scenario 2: Found a nail in the side wall after the inspection. Scenario 3: Major damage to rear passenger door. Scenario 4: Ordered a tire 2 weeks ago; arrived on a Monday and claimed to have it on Thursday or maybe Friday. How is that normal? Scenario 5: Would not repair the damage until I purchase the vehicle and would schedule something after. Hell no. All of this for a luxury Audi A4? did not honor my down payment of $1,800.00 miscalculated my earnings first it was we don't accept 1099. my loan holder doesn't accept it. redid the application was told all documents are good income verified went in at the Henrietta location I recorded the entire event he tried to make it less than it was. he manipulated the adjustments so it looks like I make a lot less than I do so my down payment would go up. I am contacting the ftc and the dmv to report this business. None of the Carmax numbers are for your local business. it's general numbers no one has access to your information it's all yes you're all set to get you to come in and then you sit down and they do the whole process in the office. express pickup? no such thing you have to do the whole process in person. I will never go to a dealership again! I was at first skeptical of buying a car on the internet, but I just moved to Buffalo and needed a car asap because Ubering everywhere was not fun. Carmax was friendly and professional. I found the perfect car in California. The car was shipped from California - only an additional $1000 (which made it cheaper than a car from a Buffalo dealer since SUVs in NY are $5-10k more than in CA). I need to start this out by saying I HATE the car buying/selling process. I have been to several dealerships and always feel like someone is trying to slip something past me without me noticing. This is not that kind of dealership. Today I was on a mission to sell a car outright. I went to several local big dealerships and was given low-ball offers all day due to a scratch here and there (car is in excellent shape, new tires, interior perfect, runs like new at 50k miles). I went into the CarMax office and could immediately tell it was about service and experience, not sales. Those who were there to purchase were offered if they'd prefer to browse inventory on a computer or by walking through the lot. I found out later that the associates do NOT work on commission and I was not surprised! As a seller I received a free appraisal where the appraiser (Jay - she was so great) looked over the car, checked the history, and even drove it (it was nice that they did that, as some do not). They gave me a printout with the offer, good for 7 days (while others said same-day only). The whole experience was low pressure and comfortable! I ended up returning that evening to complete the sale, which was quick and painless. I am not surprised at the growth this company has seen. This is the future of car sales. I contacted Carmax online. I filled out their appraisal to sell them my vehicle and received a prompt answer. I had a couple of options so I waited until I knew what I wanted to do. You have a week to accept their offer and I did at 5 days. That gave me 2 days to bring it in. So, I submitted all forms asked of me so that when I arrived at the location most of what they would need would already be completed. I was told they had to verify my information and I would be contacted for an appointment within 24 hours. When I didn't hear back I called and was told they have my info and someone would contact me soon. 4 days later, nothing. Now, when I contact them I was told the offer expired. I said it expired because no one followed up. This is unbelievable to me since this is their one job. Now, I will go back to a more reliable way of selling/trading in a vehicle: a dealer. read more

This is the third time I've purchased from CarMax in less than six months. The first two experiences were outstanding. I had a vehicle transferred from out of state to the Florida Pompano Beach location. For my second purchase, I had a vehicle transferred to the Boynton Beach Florida location. For my third purchase I paid $850 to have a BMW transferred to the Boynton Beach location. I was told this will take approximately 21-days. On day 21 I contacted CarMax to get a transfer status update. After being placed on hold several times, and being transferred from one agent to another, I was told that CarMax Buffalo sold the vehicle and never went through with the transfer. After paying $850 to transfer the vehicle to Florida and waiting 21-days for the vehicle to arrive, I was told that the vehicle was sold from underneath me. I wasn't even contacted. If I could give a 0 star review to ALL of Carmax, I would. Don't EVER think of using them to sell or purchase a vehicle. They have been nothing but difficult to work with and workers truly don't care about their customers, they are only there for a job. I have NEVER been so appalled with an experience in any industry, in my entire life. I have spent the last month wrapped up in confusion, turmoil, stress, angst, and anger all caused by carmax. I sold my car to Carmax thinking I would turn around and purchase a car from them. Nonetheless my car sale was the most difficult process as my father was a co-signer and I couldn't sell it without extra notary filled out paperwork & days of confusion because nobody told me clearly what I specifically needed to sell the vehicle. I haven't received 1 straight forward answer from any one worker. This companies morals are trash, their workers seem to all be untrained and uneducated in the car business. It has been 23 days since I have transferred the vehicle that I want to purchase after doing extensive research. The car was unable to be tracked across the country; essentially paying over $1,000 to blindly send the car to my hometown. I was told my car would arrive on the 24th-28th of August. I go to college and work on the other side of the country...in California, so I had to plan a flight to my hometown (back on the East coast) to purchase my vehicle. After being pushed back 1 week of the original arrival date; it is now August 31st and after going in person, 3 times a day, for the past few days, my car has arrived without anyone caring to call me upon arrival knowing the rush that I am in to get back to school on September 1st. I am told that the vehicle arrived without a title. It is unable to be purchased after I waited 1 month without a vehicle, flew across the country to come get a new car, waited, called every day to check on the status without answers, and now am unable to buy it. THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. DO NOT SELL OR PURCHASE THROUGH CARMAX. THEIR SERVICES & BUSINESS PRACTICES ARE UNETHICAL. My brother had a great experience with CarMax in another state and highly recommended them to me as an easy, low pressure way of buying a car. The first time I went the salesperson would not stop hovering over me, even after I asked her to let me be for a bit so I could look at cars by myself. The second time was a different salesperson. I had decided between 2 cars wanted to test drive them both. He wouldn't stop pressuring me to look at other cars I wasn't interested in until I finally just straight out told him to stop and that I wanted to decide between the two types of car I was interested in. The test drive made my decision for me and I knew which car I wanted. They did not have this car at the lot but assured it would be easy to find. I haven't heard from them since. I called multiple times, emailed multiple times, and even looked online myself and picked out two cars they could ship for me to look at and almost certainly buy. I emailed them to the guy and never heard back. I bought a newer version of the car with a much better deal at Towne Ford last week and am happy they never contacted me. Since I've mentioned this experience to other people, I haven't heard a good thing about the place and several bad stories. Stay away from this CarMax at least. read more

Was told to leave my car in the second lot. That was the lot waiting for titles to come in. I received a phone call a few weeks later saying I needed to remove my car or it would be impounded. Went the next day only to find out that the catalytic converter, 3 gas lines and 2 oxygen sensors were taken. $8494 worth of damage. Tried to called and leave messages. No response from anyone. I filed a police report only to find out they have several theft reports. Is it strange the sequence of events? Don't believe anything they tell you. Listen y'all everybody reviews the restaurants and the stores but nobody reviews the actual dealership themselves when they go in and buy a purchase that is normally the second largest purchase a person will ever make behind buying a home. I was in a horrible car accident two days before I closed on my house which led to a rush job looking for a car that I wanted to buy that I felt safe in and was within my budget. The first vehicle that I saw that I liked was at Carmax but this was only one day after the accident and I did not want to rush into a decision that I would possibly regret. I was able to put the car on hold for seven days while I shopped around to other dealerships in the area. During this time Carmax sent me a few messages but nothing like the daily voicemails and texts that you receive from other dealerships hounding you to come in and purchase a vehicle, and the messages that I received from Carmax we're just to verify I was still able to make my appointment. I worked with Emily who was phenomenal. What I like about Carmax is they are hospitality, they are not there as salesman and to push a car down your throat to meet their daily quota. Carmax employees work Hourly rates and not work on commission. This made choosing a car less stressful less intimidating and came with ease of mind. They have a no hassle price tag which means two things, you can't negotiate the price down but you can almost guarantee that the price that you're receiving is the lowest you're going to find in the area for similar cars. A lot of research goes into pricing the vehicles for the area that the Carmax is located. I still recommend doing your due diligence and looking to see if a similar car in the area is of similar value, but in my case the Nissan Murano that I purchased it was the best deal. I highly highly highly highly highly recommend going to Carmax on Niagara Falls Blvd. in Buffalo to view their lot and see if they meet your car needs read more
