I arrived just a few minutes after closing, fully understanding that the hospital had officially closed. What was incredibly disappointing was that I stood outside knocking on the door for approximately five minutes while multiple staff members walked past the front windows. Several employees looked directly at me, made eye contact, and continued walking without acknowledging me or even coming to the door. I wasn't expecting anyone to reopen the hospital or stay late to see patients. I simply hoped that someone would take 30 seconds to ask if everything was okay or point me toward an emergency clinic or another resource. Instead, I was completely ignored. As a physician, I can't imagine seeing someone visibly asking for help just minutes after closing and not even acknowledging their presence. Even if the answer is "We're closed," basic compassion and professionalism go a long way. This experience left me deeply disappointed. I hope the practice reflects on how situations like this are handled in the future, because feeling completely ignored when seeking urgent help is not what anyone expects from a healthcare profession.

So, despite just recently switching to District Vet, I've had several cat experiences with them. In short, they are awesome. So convenient being at Eastern Market! I can walk home with kitty sitting in his magnificent, aging Sherpa. And when I left him for his dental, I had breakfast on the way home. They have excellent hours, and their front desk people are super nice. In fact, everyone in the practice is super nice! And speaking of nice, the majority of vets are women! Very cool, in my opinion. And the vets and their techs are also amazing. As noted, we took Grant Mitchell in for his (very late) annual dental. They actually called to ask if I could give Grant his post-surgery meds. I said, "Not unless the meds are liquid," (and that's debatable). Which of course they were pills, a no way. So they dosed him with something else and he's good as new. I really like District Vet.

I've recommended Dr. Khianey for years and will continue to do so. But I won't be bringing my family to this hospital without Dr. Khianey. Dr. Khianey is the kindest, most talented veterinarian I have ever come across. Unfortunately, Prince George's Animal Hospital will never, ever be the same without him now after more than 40 years of stellar service to the community. Dr. Khianey saved the life of my first kitty, and cared for him throughout the latter half of his life with compassion and irreplaceable expertise for both my cat and for me. He has been caring for my two current cats in the same exact way, as if they were his own. He will continue to do so at the new practice lucky enough to have him. Dr. Khianey's work is exceptional and I have and will continue to recommend everyone I know go to him if they want a doctor who is competent, compassionate, beyond talented and truly cares for all of his patients with the same level of love he does his own. I would not trust anyone over him. I have seen terrified animals calmed by his presence. I have seen animals on the verge of death healed by his hands. I have wept in his offices and been comforted by his calm competence and expertise. No one will ever replace him and to lose him at Prince George's Animal Hospital after four decades of excellence is a fatal wound to this community. What…read morestarted as regular checkups and the occasional GSD-specific issue has evolved into something more involved: prolonging their quality of life through acupuncture, laser therapy, and medication. Today, the girls are a spry 13 and 14, and I credit much of that to Dr. King's care. But Dr. King isn't just a vet, he's also a matchmaker. He knows us well enough that when a Belgian Malinois came through his care in foster, he sent me a photo. She's now part of our pack. You'll be hard-pressed to find a vet more dedicated to his craft, his patients, and continuous learning, or one who's a truer partner to the people he works with.
