After my yoga class I was hungry. I needed to eat. I checked my bookmarks and again I found one I've had for awhile. "Carman Street Deli" is a hidden gem and definitely worth the visit. I almost thought my GPS was wrong, it was taking me down a residential street. But right after a parking lot, I saw the deli. It almost looks like a house converted into a deli, but I found out from Kelly, it use to be a pharmacy. Like I said inside was Kelly, a wonderful fun spirited person. She asked what I needed and after a little back and forward joking, she made my wheat wrap. We talked a little more while she made it and was never without a smile. She made my meal herself to order so it was nice and hot. Kelly pointed out she put a note on it so I knew where the top was (how many places do that for there customers?). When I sat down on the tall boy seating to eat my breakfast I was pleasantly surprised. The sandwich was perfect! It tasted like something you make at home, no commercial flaws. Kelly fried my egg, the bacon was abundant and crispy, she used plenty of cheese and put it all on a wheat wrap! Bravo! Kelly understands that a person impacts customer experience, not the glitz and glamor of a new building. Help support a local business and head there. Try the wrap and see if I'm wrong.

Random fact: this used to be a Waldbaums…read more Overall this is a very nice King Kullen, one with a pharmacy too! (Or Chemist, if you're from Europe or are an Aussie.) Nice to still see this in 2026. This location is kept clean, most of the staff are nice, and I'm happy to report that I've been noticing a lot more Organic/Non-GMO stuff available to buy, ditto for Gluten free mixed in with the oldie-but-goodie items, which tend to cater to their majority Gen X and Baby Boomer aged customers. There's a bus stop for SCT routes 6, 51, and 53 at the Waverly Ave entrance, which is convenient. Plus it says open until 22:00 (10 pm). Only complaints are: Items/foodschtuffs are costly (aka typical King Kullen prices), Restrooms tend to be dirty (had to duck into the ladies room once, was a bit cleaner than the mens), The location is in an odd area. Waverly Ave south of Sunrise is a rough-ish part of town, but north of Sunrise tends to be nicer. Keep this in mind if you walk, bike, or take the bus. With all this being said, I'm happy for the Cullen Family and to see King Kullen continue to be a landmark business unique to Long Island, still making LIers proud!

The whole experience reminded me of going years ago when I was a child and got to pick a little sweet at the counter. Worth the extra couple of minutes to go to.
