How come I've never noticed Carluccio's before? An Italian that does vegan pasta dishes - count me in!
I discovered this quite by chance as I walked past - I had bookmarked another restaurant that I was heading towards, but the choice of veggie and vegan dishes on the menu here enticed me in, and that was definitely the best decision on a day in which I'd lost both my specs and my sunglasses in a London taxi.
Lots of options for me to eat on the menu here. I had been planning on something in the seafood range, but the inclusion of two new vegan pasta dishes was too good to pass up. The only problem was, which one to try? I took the waitress's advice and want for the Orecchiette al Cavolfiore, a tasty mixture of cauliflower, kale and capers with just a slight kick from some chilli. Personally, I'd have added a touch more chilli but that's just me.
The other vegan option, Spaghetti con Polpette di Pane, a Puglia-inspired dish featuring bread balls (!) looked better than it sounds, but I'll have to leave that until my next visit.
I did have a starter of Crostini ai Funghi, which was mushrooms and kale with garlic and chilli on toasted ciabatta. Delicious (fortunately I like kale).
I have since discovered that there is a branch of Carluccio's in Glasgow too. I shall make a point of checking them out very soon. read more
