Unfortunately, the unexpected onsite remodeling construction taking place on the shared wall to our room left us with a very un-relaxing visit. We honestly thought someone was trying to knock our door down the first morning at 8 AM. Talk about a jarring way to awake on the first day of a vacation. The construction lasted all day both days of our stay with short breaks for lunch. I popped into the office to ask about the noise and the person behind the counter said she was unaware of any construction despite the obvious noise, and that they were working right outside the front door of the office next to the pool. She said she'd check on it and get back to me. She never did. The website didn't mention anything about an ongoing remodeling project, only stating, "These recently refreshed Villas..." Had there been a message about any construction, I would not have booked the room for this trip. Nearby MarBrisa Carlsbad Resort listed that there was ongoing construction on their property, which is why I chose somewhere else to stay. When we returned home, I received an email from the Capital Asset Management Group asking that if we enjoyed our stay to reply with a review. Only if we enjoyed our stay? I told them about the unpleasant experience. Still haven't heard back from them. Wish we could leave a wonderful review but instead we feel like we were duped into paying good money for a work-in-progress experience. I'd say email or call ahead to assess their current situation but there's a 24-48+ hour lag in response times.

The negatives: If you like mildew smell on the linens, then this place is for you. They smell like the linens were left in the washer too long and then dried. We couldn't get rid of the smell from our pajamas. There's no onsite staff to get this corrected. The rooms do not have central air conditioning so many windows are open and there's a window fan. This means you hear all the noise outside. There's a train that runs all night long. Finally there was a loud humming sound that kept me up all night. Sounds like a condenser or something . For $370 a night, you expect better service and amenities.

Once inside you are greeted with a place that needs major work. The carpet is old and stained. The bed is really high off the ground and the furniture is worn. Because there is no air conditioning you have to open the windows, stripping away any perceived privacy. We were surrounded by other rooms, we either didn't have any neighbors or they were really quiet. I was able to hear someone talking through the wall as a mumble, but that went away. Because of the seemingly thin walls I avoided watching the laughably small and awkwardly hung t.v. The worst part was the bathroom which because of the ac situation makes you open a window that stares directly at the door of your neighbor. They do have a nice enough lobby area with some coffee and snacks as well as a good place to sit an enoy them. The location is the selling point, very close to the beach and a few blocks away from downtown, I didn't use a car while there. That was great. They also have a really cool rooftop hangout area with chairs to sit and relax. For what it's worth, my wife liked this place more then I did.

Have been a customer for 17 years as have many family members and friends. Checked in, paid my balance by check and they cashed within an hour. Arrived in room to 2 dead cockroaches and a toilet which wouldn't flush. A live roach runs into bathroom and under sink. Told mgr Lily she called maintenance man who should arrive in hour or two. In the mean time, chased 2-3 other cockroaches killed one. Wife flushed other toilet to see if it worked and it overflowed on to floor and shower backed up spewing sewage. The smell was unbearable. Put down towels called manager she said she'd call plumber now. Went to get a glass in the cupboard and found a glass full of syringes. Obviously this place has not been cleaned. BROKEN TOILETS, LIVE AND DEAD COCKROACHES, RAW SEWAGE,SYRINGES were the issues within the first two hours of our family vacation. Plumber arrived and fixed plumbing. Still nobody cleaned bathroom floor or shower. And it reeked of sewage. We asked if anyone was going to clean up the roaches and the manager finally did. Manager tried to get us to stay with discounts and other rooms but they had nothing comparable and we were disgusted and really couldn't see ourselves staying anywhere in this place. We chased a roach and moved a chest of drawers and found RODENT AND COCKROACH FECES (see photo)Final straw was my son finding roaches climbing up from the drain in the shower into the pan. That's it. We never unpacked so we put everything in the truck and drove 2 hours home. Vacation week ruined. Family reunion ruined. I called the next morning and spoke to Lily and said I was driving down to pick up my refund. She confirmed that I would be getting 100% refund and that the owner was there and valued us as a customer and wanted a second chance. All I wanted was my money back I said. Drove 2 1/2 hours to be greeted by a check for half my total. So they kept $2400. Unbelievable. I will never give uLIARS on top of it Enjoy the photos. I have more and video to be posted. UPDATE. Owner called 9/12 and said he would be sending the balance of the refund. STILL NOTHING. After a month, I received a full refund. Not pleased with what I had to do, and was prepared to do in order to effectuate the full refund. They could have tried to make it right but failed. Sorry to say we won't be customers again.

I booked through hotels.com when my normal hotel (for work travel- The Marriott Courtyard) was booked up. As I was going into my second month of traveling down to Carlsbad, I assumed (bad girl) they were searching for the same amenities in a reasonable price range and I expected something similar. The whole experience was both frustrating and strange. After booking through a phone call to hotels.com to Sonoran Suites, I had the following experience: * Sonoran Suites called to see if I wanted to cancel with hotels.com and book direct for a better deal * Sonoran Suites called me 2 days later on the first day of my check in to tell me I need to fill out a 3 page liability form and fax it back with a copy of my driver's license and credit card (good thing I was at work and could make this happen). Of course it required I stop working to take care of it. When I expressed that I had no idea and was not pleased being my check in was that day, the rep made sure to tell me it was on their website and the check in details are clear. Well since I booked on the phone, I didn't know and hotels.com didn't tell me...AND...the hotels.com confirmation didn't include this particular required check-in information *If I didn't get it back to them in time they would not be able to confirm a room for me and I would be room-less until submitted ( canceling would mean a 50% charge of the total fee for the original booked time) *Emailed back and confirmed with: my unit #, gate #, lockbox #, parking lot# (a lot of work already for me for a 3 night stay) * Are NO hotel reps on site * Sonoran Suites never told me I was staying at a place called "Windsor" so I was confused trying to find the place (I was looking for a hotel or resort named Sonoran Suites) * Room did NOT have the following: cable tv (only channels 1-16), no internet, no phone (at all), no cell phone reception *TV in bedroom did have more channels but were all blocked (parent controls). I could only watch news channels and the weather channel *Asked for a one bed, was put in a 2 bed and 2 bath (creepy for a young woman staying on her own in an unknown place and with NO phone for any emergency calling) *Instructions meant to scare if you do not submit to a long list of cleaning items prior to leaving (you will be charged a cleaning fee of $50.00)... and ironically enough, sitting below that is a card from the maid " gratuities welcome" (maids and daily service only available when you stay 7 days or more) *Lockbox was confusing to put back together and no instructions are offered anywhere. I had to call Sonoran Suites to understand what I was doing wrong. I got a voicemail first, had to call back later to get someone to tell me how to put the lockbox back together. Finally got out there and was late for a morning meeting. All this can be yours for the "promotional price" of $249.00 a night. Hassle! Disappointment! I think if someone is staying at the minimum for a few weeks and you can get amenities in there (cable, internet, a phone). Then I can see it being okay. But this was an awful experience. I fault hotels.com for not being more aware or communicative of where they were putting me and I think Sonoran Suites has a big price tag for providing jack. The place was lacking and the experience a total pain in the ass.

Then I called Travelocity and was told that an individual had called to cancel and issue a full refund. The agent at Travelocity helped me rebook the location, but had to charge my card again while my refund would happen in 3-5 days. The next day I called Sonoran Suites back and the person who answered said that they weren't sure why it was cancelled, but would investigate and call me back to confirm. We were to arrive Sunday between three and five. We were told we would receive an email with our check-in information. We hadn't received it when you left but I assumed i would be able to check in by the time we arrive. We showed up and could not get into the condo. The owner, Nancy, failed to send us Checking information which included or should have included the combination to the condominium. We arrived with a weeks supply of food and belongings. We also brought our 85 pound dog, Cinder who is a service animal for my husband. Once we arrived I got out of the car and ask for help from one of the other tenants I saw sitting on her park. she tried to figure out the combo to our condo using hers and changing a few numbers. It didn't work. Then, another lady showed up and was quite upset and looked lost. She too, was unable to get into her condo because she had not received the combination. She made reservations back in April and had traveled from Arizona. So we both stood there in the cold, calling, texting and emailing Nancy. I called Airbnb and spoke with a very nice guy who was very helpful, as much as he could be. He too, attempted to get a hold of the owner but was unable to do so. Throughout the next two days he was in constant contact with me and I kept him apprised of what was going on here. While we were standing on the sidewalk wondering what to do, a nicely dressed young man said he overheard us and asked if he could help in anyway. We Explained what happened and he said he would try to help. He looked up on some website and told me that there were other units vacant. He told us to wait and then came back and said "follow me". He'd opened another unit, upstairs, and told us we could stay here. The unit was dirty, the linens from the bed on the floor. We didn't care. My husband has advanced Parkinson's and was so upset and confused I was grateful for anything at this point. We had tried to find other possible places to stay but it was very late and all the places that I could find would not accommodate a dog. So after spending at least two hours trying to figure things out we felt blessed when this man helped us. The other lady who also couldn't get in her condo had finally gotten in (I think the young man helped her too ). She came and found us and offered to take the dirty linens and wash them so we could have something to sleep on. She came back an hour and a half later stating that the washer and dryer were very small and out linens weren't ready. So, she went across the street to a friends timeshare and borrowed some linens for us. I cleaned the condo. We were unable to leave the condo Because we didn't have the combination to the door lock. Not sure how the young man got in. When I asked him, he just laughed and said, Magic. I carried out belongings upstairs. Unfortunately , by doing so, I aggravated a herniated disc. I'm scheduled for surgery next month. I tried to be careful, but the stairs were steep and long. . At the time my only concern was my husband. He'd missed his medications (as they were packed in the bottom of our SUV) which he takes on a very regimented schedule, so was shaking like a leaf by the time we got in side. I continued to text Nancy until late Sunday night and still heard nothing back. The other lady did the same and has never heard back. At 2:30PM, I finally got a response telling me we had to move back downstairs. I explained that my husband who will be 79 next month was extremely disturbed about what they did to us as was I. I talked with AIRBNB and was told that the problem was hers because she neglected her duties and they were filling a violation against her. Nancy (or Avigale who signs their correspondences) said she didn't respond due to a" family emergency ". We knew this excuse to be false as she had responded to the lady who get in earlier on Sunday afternoon. She was asked if they could check in early and she responded no. So we know she lied. If she could respond to one question she could've responded to ours as well. Anyway, they told us we needed to move downstairs in that they had no "young man "employed. They also made reference that we were in an upgraded unit and offered us a measly $100 and a 10% coupon to come back here. Like anybody would come back after what happened! And $100? Are you kidding. Anyway I decided that I was not going to spend another day packing, driving everything downstairs and across to the other condo and blooms yet another Day of all what should've been a nice five day get away. We have done nothing but argue with these people and they need to be held accountable when they screw over people. It's not just me, or the other lady that I met, it's everyone. To be honest, as we

Since hubby and I had time off, we decided to do something a little bit local, but far enough to feel like we were away from Orange County. So, we traveled south to Carlsbad. We packed up the kids and headed to the 2 bed 2 bath Wave unit in the Swell building. We were fortunate to be given early check in. Self check in was a breeze with the emailed instructions. Super cool feature: ELECTRONIC LOCKS! I felt like I was using The Force every time I waved my hand in front of the lock. There is a shed full of beach chairs, boogie boards, sand toys, a couple of soft top surfboards, umbrellas, and I think some canopies. Barbecues have dedicated gas lines. Oh, there's a game room! We got my son off the electronics long enough for a spirited game of foosball...the game room also includes Ms Pacman, an old school pinball machine and shuffleboard. There is also an outdoor shower with HOT WATER that my surfer dude relished. Speaking of hot water...on day 2, hubby went out for dawn patrol. When he came back from his early AM surf, he was looking forward to a hot shower. Our shower would not heat up! The other shower and every faucet in the unit ran hot water, but for some reason, our bathroom shower did not. I texted property management, they promptly replied, came in an hour to verify my findings, and sent a plumber to make repairs. Thank goodness for the in-unit washer and dryer. I threw in a beach towel in the dryer to defrost my hubsicle. Great management, awesome property. We hope to check out their other rentals! We appreciate the amenities and know we'll be taken care of should the need arise.
