Carl's Jr will always have some of the best fast food burgers. However, I'm writing this review because I'm thinking of the experience I had here one night 2 years ago. I forgot why we didn't go through the drive through but I went in the lobby to order. It seemed like the team was already doing closing procedures despite it not being close to closing. The kid working the register was busy stocking the cookies and didn't pay us any attention. I asked if I was able to order and he told us to order on the system ourselves. He turned around the POS and had me take my own order! I thought Carls Jr had those self orders kiosks but it was actually their POS. Really confusing and kinda funny looking back. I probably was able to give myself a discount while I was taking my order. read more

This place deserves a 0/10. The worker running the front gave my food away to someone else, gave me some fries that were sitting there. I requested fresh fries and he scoffed that they were already fresh. Made a comment various times that the drive thru is more important than guests walking in. Not recommended visiting this location. Worker was rude in over his head and lacked customers service required for food industry. Overall a terrible visit read more

Location: Carl's Jr., 4199 Governor Drive, University City (San Diego) Date: February 3, 2026 Item: Large Vanilla Iced Coffee - $3.87 I purchased a large Vanilla Iced Coffee through the drive-through this afternoon. When I finally started drinking it about 30 minutes later, I quickly realized why it went so fast -- the cup was approximately three-quarters full of ice and contained very little actual beverage. About an hour after purchase, I returned to the restaurant with the cup, which was still half full of ice, and asked to speak with the manager. The same employee who served me identified herself as the manager. I politely explained that I was disappointed with how little drink I received for nearly $4.00 and asked for either a replacement or a refund. She told me that employees "only push buttons" and are not responsible for the amount of ice, and that because I didn't complain immediately at the drive-through window, she would not refund or replace the drink. I found this response very disappointing and unprofessional. As a frequent customer, I expected basic customer service and a willingness to resolve a clear issue. Whether this is store policy or corporate policy, charging nearly $4.30 ($3.99 + tax) for a cup that is mostly ice is unacceptable. With my senior/military discount, it was $3.87 -- still far too much for what amounted to a few sips of coffee. If you live in the UTC area, I recommend avoiding the iced coffee drinks here unless you specifically ask for very light ice. I will not be purchasing them again from this location. read more

I ordered a shake. After I get it, I quickly put my card in the wallet and unwrap the straw. The cashier opens the window and ask me to move forward. Why because no one is behind me and it impacts their service time. I know how to not impact that. IDIOTS read more

I don't leave reviews on Yelp often but I had to - friendly service for starters, but there's a different carls I go to more often in La Mesa because I live closer to it, and these chicken stars are WAY better here than they are over there.. actually crispy and delicious, the last couple times at the other location I was a bit underwhelmed and dissatisfied with the dood, the service is nice there too though. But the quality here is seemingly better to me! Wonder why it's not more of a standard across the board at a chain like this? But hey, if I'm in the area and craving some stars I know I'll be stopping here instead of waiting to get to the one closer to home from now on read more

The employees are so horrible at this location. There is no urgency or customer service. I was a walk in and it took 10 mins to acknowledge me or take my order. There were 3 cars in the drive thru. They took their orders and made them park in the parking lot. I got my food in a timely manner. 20 mins went by and they never took any food outside to the cars waiting. Then 2 came in asking for their orders. They were upset. It took them 5 mins just to acknowledge them then they never apologized to them. Just looked annoyed and said we got busy. They were not busy! There were 2 people working the front and 2 working the kitchen. One older customer says I am contacting corporate. The older lady screams good.. go ahead shrugs her shoulders. They were so dismissive and rude. Never once said sorry! Not one employee cares and it shows!! Watching how rude other customers were treated I will never return to this location. read more

I usually come here once a year. I love hamburgers and French fries and this is the closest fast food to me. I got the Famous Star combo and asked for easy mayo, and no other condiments. Paid, asked for ranch, they don't have any. Ugh, bummer, I love eating my criss cut fries with ranch, it's my occasional guilty pleasure. Got home, opened up the burger and oh em gee, the two buns were smothered in mayo, so much so, that my buns were soggy. Gross. I wiped off the excess Mayo and ate my hamburger open faced. My criss cut fries that are not as good as I remember or maybe it's because Chick Fil A upped the bar and makes them better. Now I know why I always go to In-in-out. It's better quality, more delicious, cheaper, and overall better experience. I'd rather wait in line or make my own hamburger in my Ninja Foodie than ever go here again. I gave it 2 stars because maybe the cook was hungover from the Fourth of July, it's never been this bad. Still, I never want to come back. I can't see this place being in business much longer or maybe I just hope this place shuts down, we deserve something better in its place. read more

Poor service. Ordered a famous star but got a spicy chicken instead. Check your orders before you leave the store...

This Carls Jr is the best one. Maybe people think the food is like other Carls Jr (or "Hardee's") but this the only place where you can get a Famous Star or that delicious chicken thing with cheese and bacon and ranch and then come back the week after and the week after that and pretty much every week all quarter and refill your cup with sweet sweet Diet Soda (Diet Dr Pepper for me) without ever being asked to make another purchase. Yea I would make more purchases of course cause they're great and you're already there, but it's the little things. Also I heard someone once dumped their old big screen TV near the dumpster here and apparently they didn't make a big deal of that either. Good for Carls Jr. Specifically, this Carls Jr. read more

Very nice service. Felt clean and sanitary inside, good for a relaxing stop if you're in the area.

9/6/17 8:49pm NEVER THOUGHT I'D WRITE A REVIEW FOR A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT!!! Employee with glasses literally looked at us and slammed the register that he was counting/closing. Nice customer service. Stood there awkwardly while he angrily gathered his receipts and stormed off without even so much as a greeting. Not our fault you work a fast food job pal. Maybe start closing the registers 15 minutes before you 10pm and not an hour and a half. Reached out to corporate and this was their response. Thank you very much for taking the time to inform us of the experience you had at our restaurant. At Carl's Jr., we strive not only to provide a delicious meal with great guest service, but we also make every effort to create a safe, clean, and friendly dining environment. We assure you that every effort is being made to address this situation. We have contacted the appropriate management team members regarding your experience at this particular restaurant. We really appreciate the time you have taken to express your concerns. It gives us the chance to learn where we need improvement. It also allows us to resolve any problems that may arise from time to time. Our goal is to make every guest happy, every time! Sincerely, Carl's Jr. & Hardee's Guest Relations Somehow I don't think this will be addressed or anything changed in the near or distant future. Don;t know how the food is but if I were you I'd get there before 8:00 to avoid an experience like this. Can't imagine what would've happened if we went through the drive through and couldn't see this guy's expression. Probably would have gotten something "extra"in our burger. With all the competition for food service dollars I would think that keeping stores open until their posted hours would be the first issue I would tackle. Oh well. Hope this helps you decide where you will spend your hard earned money on food and STEER CLEAR OF CARL'S JR! read more

It would've been at least a 2/5 stars, but they close earlier than the business actually does. They tend to close 15-20min before actual closing time and won't accept any customer(s)from the drive-thru during those last 15-20min. Do the employees run this place or what because they seem to be calling the shots, which I believe is unprofessional. read more

I normally don't review fast food places as much as they are a chain and each restaurant is a different experience. However today I was having a pretty rough day and stopped by the drive thru. Esteban, the nice man at the window, was so genuinely polite and caring that I just had to leave a review. He offered me a cup of water without me even asking, and he seemed to legitimately care. This is not the first time that I was surprised by his amazing friendliness. Please come to this carls jr in the morning if you want great customer service. The burger was good too. read more

16685 BERNARDO CENTER DR SAN DIEGO, CA, 92128 I arrived at 6:15 p.m. 5-7-2022 and was told they were short-staffed and that is why the doors were locked. Went through the drive-through and ordered a California burger. Received the bag (I did not check it) and drove home. Got home, I had a bun, a piece of cheese, and a tomato. No meat. I drove back to the Carl's listed above and when through the drive-through again, the girl with two nose rings said nothing - took the bag from me and went back to the kitchen... I had a thought - she was going to spit in it so I drove off. ... CARL'S must hire people that are willing to do the work. I have been going to this establishment for years and love the management. 7:33AM August 19th, 2013...There's a long line wrapped around the building...shit, am I too late?...78,79, 80, 81, 82! I'm number 82! YES! For the Grand Reopening, Carl's tore down the old building and built a brand new one, which is about .22 miles from my condo. The first 100 customers at 9:00am got free food a year...and I was number 82! I didn't get to actually order until about 9:45AM, but I figured 2 hours of my life for $364 worth of free food was worth it($7 meal X 52 weeks = $364). Unfortunately, the booklet with 52 food tickets wasn't quite what I had imagined. Each ticket is good for 1 specfic food item per week. Week 1: Western Bacon Cheeseburger, Week 2: Teriyaki Burger, Week 3: Famous Superstar...etc etc. Nice strategy there Carl! Trying get all 100 of us cheapasses to buy an order fries and drink since we're getting a free burger. I ain't falling for it! Oh wait...I probably will...doh! So my $364 is probably more like $182... Regardless, the free Western Bacon Cheeseburger and free Teriyaki Burger I've had so far were both quite tasty, so I'm looking forward to the next 50 free burgers! :D read more

EW i'm currently mad at McDonald's for making us go to Carl's because they were only taking cash. who carries cash!?! not me...so we had to make the trek to carl's for sub-par fast food. the fried zucchinis were undercooked, and the batter was gooey. they were not crispy, and turned into a mush (i have issues with weird textures...so this was like a nightmare) and there are no smoothies, only shakes & i'm not down to consume over 500 calories on an oreo shake at 1:30am. also, is it just me, or is Carl's way more expensive than McDonalds?? where's the fucking dollar menu!? Probably the SLOWEST service ever...definitely DO NOT order inside the restaurant. Drive thru is much faster. I've been in on multiple occasions since it is by work and every time, I've had to wait over 20 minutes for my food regardless of its a breakfast item in the morning or a burger after the lunch hour. I went in one morning to order 2 breakfast sandwiches and that took about 23 minutes. I had to eventually walk up to the counter to remind the girl that my order was actually in the window. This same incident happened another item while waiting for my burger. And I was the only customer in there so it wasn't as if they were busy. Just forgetful. I seriously didn't even know Carl's Jr. still existed. There aren't any commercials..or maybe I just don't pay attention and just tune them out. ANYWAYS!!!!!!!!!!! One night my girlfriends and I went to Tavern in PB. Tavern never lets me down. There are always drink specials and wild people dancing all crazy. Gotta love that party mix. Then on our way out..apparently, I dropped my LICENSE and my CREDIT CARD. dumbfuck...and I didn't even notice till a random guy walking on the street was like " Are you Jillian?" I was like yeahhh and you are...haha Then he hands me my license and credit card. We then treated him like God. We took him to Carl's Jr. and bought him food and gave him a ride home. I never eat at fast food restaurants but I was STARVING. So i ate his fries!! bomb.com I don't know if it was the Drunk Munchies or what..but better than McDonald's and Baseball Game Fries. The gentlemen working the drive thru window was so nice this morning and very pleasant. The service was fast and food was hot.

Today's experience was 4 stars, but the average experience keeps my review at 2 stars. Hoping that this place could redeem itself after the last debacle, I hit up this Carl's Jr / Green Burrito for a late lunch with a coupon, and got a Crispy Bacon Swiss sandwich. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=uK8w_LkfsNXKlBC1a_uhQA They've added a few new things inside: a self-serve ordering kiosk, and some flat screen TVs with their Carls Jr network of stuff - public service announcements, promos for Carls Jr, promos for NBC shows, weather etc. Still the same old bland artwork on the walls. The cashier who took my order was friendly and got my order right! She even offered me a cup for water without my asking! And my sandwich appeared pretty quickly! Talk about a late night treasure! This place is golden in my neighborhood of UC it's open all night and honestly the food here is pretty much consistent and i've even driven a Lamborghini diablo through their drive-thru so it will fit folks around the windy entrance! The great Otis himself would have to cast a spell upon me to convince that this isn't the greatest Carl's Jr; Green Burrito combo restaurant. Adrian has helped us every time. My Jalapeño turkey burger for $3.59 had a spicy zip, and I split this sandwich with a hungry Yelper. We both enjoyed it. I will order it again when I'm in a hurry. This Carl's Jr. was a little slow for fast food, but at least the food was decent. I also ate the buttermilk ranch chicken tender sandwich for $2.99, which was full of calories and just ok. I wouldn't order it again. It's made with more than 1 chicken tender, so the breading on the chicken makes this a less healthy choice. We didn't have any fries. I notice they also have sweet potato fries, but I haven't tried them. This Carl's Jr. is on governor drive and has been remodeled, and is combined with Green Burrito. There is a television in the dining area. The staff wasn't able to describe the jalapeño turkey burger accurately, but luckily we enjoyed it anyway. read more

No complaints really, typical Carl's Jr. Ordered my usual Western Bacon meal with extra BBQ sauce. It was a little bit hard to understand what the drive-through guy was saying over the speaker, but I order fast and precise with no "Ummmmmm"'s or "what kind of sauce comes on the...."'s, etc., so when I pulled up to order and immediately said "Western Bacon combo medium with coke and extra BBQ sauce and that's it"....was pleasantly surprised when he got it right on the screen without me having to repeat myself multiple times. I would take off another star for trying the ol' "would you like to add 2 cookies for a dollar fifty?"...but that question has swayed me in the past so can't fault them there for trying...probably works all the time. read more
