Disappointed by my first time to Lucca. A friend and I arrived around 4:10 to do a tasting. When we…read morearrived we were not informed that they closed at 5. Instead we were alerted that they close at 5 when the woman refused to serve us past 5:00 despite only having 5 out of the 7 wines. Shockingly the price was not 5/7ths of what a tasting normally cost. If she had let us know from the start that they would cut off our wine tasting before finishing, we would not have joined them at evening and come another time. Or if she had to give less time between the pours so we could be out right at the 5:00 closing time then we also would have understood. But instead no heads up, at her mercy of the timing of the pours, and didn't get to finish the tasting that we paid for. Rip off!

Three varieties were available for sampling at the show, a Red Duet, Syrah and a Petite Sirah. The Red Duet, a 50-50 blend of Cabernet and Syrah, was my personal favorite with a very nice aroma, smooth texture and an equally smooth taste. Mr. John Monnich , the founder of Silkwood Wines was very helpful in explaining the qualities of his award winning wines exuberantly informing us that his Syrah is the ONLY western wine served on Japan Airlines. Silkwood Wines can be purchased directly from their website at www.silkwoodwines.com .

There aren't enough nice things to say about E&J Gallo Winery…read more The space in Modesto is quite nice. The private tours are unlike any other experience I've had. The winery offers a very wide variety wine and spirits (many of which tend to be the go-to for most people). This proves that Gallo has something for almost everyone to enjoy in the beverage department. The family that owns the business is genuine and shows that through the products they produce along with the way they take care of their employees. They're also very Earth friendly, which can been seen through the structure of the new building, the practices of recycling and more. Whether you're a distributor, retailer, consumer or employee, Gallo is truly a top notch company to take part in.

We were late to our reservation, however, one of the owners was so nice to accommodate. This was the most perfect day to be there for a first time or 5th time. weather was perfect. Outside pizza vendor was 1.5 hours out on orders. so we stopped in the little store and found excellent crackers and cheese to hold us off. I heard the Genoa bread was amazing from a Modesto bakery. But, sold out:( you pay for everything and the. Bring to your server and they put it all on a charcuterie board and bring to your table. I really enjoyed their Chardonnay on this rather hot day. People were dancing, drinking, eating and socializing. It was great! the wildflowers on the grounds are so beautiful! They have games to play. And dogs are welcome! Check out all my photos. I'm giving this 4 stars only because I think it's ridiculous to not be prepared and offer pizza as your only vendor and wait 1.5 hours knowing you are completely booked for the day. and, the pizza was really thin, hardly any cheese we could see or taste. Basil was less than appetizing to look at, but we were starving. So we ate every paste bite. I think it would have been nice to offer fresh Apples, pears or grapes in the store for the charcuterie boards. You have to try their soft Jalapeno cheese in the cold case!!! It was delish w/the crackers from Rustic oven. I loved the store... the 2 guys who do the treasures with grapevines are incredible. I can't wait to take a class. Parking is awesome if you can get under the covered area. Bathrooms are clean. This definitely is a must to visit. highly recommend:)

Prices are beyond reasonable; $9 or 10 bucks a bottle, w the most expensive being $16. $120 is the average for a case, & if you buy a case there is a 10% discount. The Cabernet & the Pinot Noir have the largest following, & it is the Pinot Noir that is my personal choice. They also have a sizeable selection of both red and white wines, with my favourite being their Cabernet Sauvignon. However, until recently, they lacked a good selection of roses -- I only ever saw Zinfandel and Moscato -- yuck. But this summer, I was thrilled to find a pink Pinot Grigio by Barefoot in BC Liquor Stores -- finally, a decent, affordable rose! Wine snobs reading this probably think I'm a savage, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I like Barefoot wines -- they fit my budget, the quality is decent, and they have a good selection.
