My dad was working in Gastonia and brought home a couple of the lunch specials from Caribbean Hut. The deal is amazing. It's so much food and you get a drink for around $7. He got the the Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken and I believe the BBQ chicken. All the meals came with a mix of rice and beans and yellow rice, cabbage and plantains. The food was so delicious. Everything was well seasoned and the flavors all mixed well. The food does have a little spice to it. So be prepared. My favorites were the Curry chicken and the Jerk chicken. Portions are amazing and the food is filling. I want to try their Beef Patties. Glad they have 2 locations in Charlotte so I can try more of their menu. I was pleasantly surprised to find this on one of my travels while I was looking for something other than the typical chain restaurants. There is absolutely nothing fancy about the location, storefront nor the interior. The interior was pretty basic, decorated with Jamaican themed decor with reggae music playing. Service counter was basically a cafeteria type set up with a huge warming table. Service was no nonsense. I placed my to-go order & my server proceeded to load up my styrofoam carry out tray with copious amounts of food! He just kept on piling more & more food into the tray. When he handed me the package, it was probably 7#s of food at least!! The star is definitely the food. I ordered oxtails and curried goat. This came with rice & peas and sautéed cabbage. My photo didn't do it justice as the tray was over flowing with food. There was probably 8 big generous pieces of oxtails. Both the oxtails and curried goat were melt-in-your mouth tender as well as very well flavored. It was all absolutely delicious!Honestly, there was enough food for 2 if not 3 people in that tray! My only complaint was that there was so much sauce that a lot leaked out of the tray into the plastic shopping bag. This is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that I call a hidden gem & a must try!! I can't wait to come back to try their other Jamaican specialties!!

Unfortunately I have to update this review, I have been a longtime customer with this establishment. I recently ordered online and I received the worst meal ever. I attempted to resolve via the restaurant and Grubhub. The restaurant was closed for the day and Grubhub only offered a $5 credit, which wasn't enough for a meal that wasn't even edible. The chicken was so hard it was impossible to bite. I requested rice and peas, I was giving a heap of white rice. There were no veggies, and no plantain included. This meal was a disaster. This is definitely not on brand for this establishment but it's a very disappointing experience.

This is my go to for Jamaican food! The customer service at both the Woodlawn Rd. & Gastonia location is on point & the jerk chicken, rice & peas, cabbage, beef patties, and curry chicken are my go to's!!!

Sunday afternoon adventure led me here and I was not disappointed. I ordered a jerk chicken sandwich. It came out quickly and was very tasty. Just the right amount of spice with a smokey jerk sauce with a hint of BBQ flavor. The staff was very nice. Cute little spot.

All I can say, is delicious, delicious, delicious, delicious, delicious! The food was perfectly season and tender. If you haven't been to this establishment you're missing out.

I visited this location for the first time on 4/6/2023. I didn't know Gastonia had a carribean hit so I was excited and pleased with my visit. I walked in and immediately placed my order and it was ready within 5 minutes. I ordered a medium veggie plate and it looked like a large! The food was hot and flavorful. The restaurant was clean and they played reggae music. I will be returning when I have a taste for more Carribean food :)

Veggie curry with rice and beans and plantains...mac and cheese side....pepper sauce.

Since moving to the Carolina's from up North I wasn't sure what to expect. I've have both dined in as well as carry out and the experience is always pleasant. I've had a few things from the menu but my favorite is the oxtail roti; It's a bit costly but well worth it as the meat is super tender, flavorful and the roti is pack full of meat. I also love the rice/ peas with the brown gravy and drinks are always phenomenal I've learned depending on the time of day you may be waiting for a bit but it's well worth it as everything is fresh, hot and made to order. The service/staff very friendly and helpful when it comes to ordering. The ambiance is upbeat, very clean and vibrant I wish I got a picture of my meal but somehow never makes it because it's that delicious

The cashier was sweet and personable. She was multitasking, but still managed to be fully engaged in the service she provided to us. She kindly let us know what items were sold out for the day and also gave us time to look over the menu and decide on our order without making us feel rushed. While we waited for our food to arrive, we noticed a steady flow of customers all the way until closing time! It's clear Island Grill & Pub is a local favorite. The food is packaged up to go, but there are plenty of tables to dine-in once you have your food...and a big screen with movies and Jamaican music playing in the background to keep you entertained. The wait for the food is a bit long...but EVERYTHING came out very fresh, very authentic, and worth the wait. The portions were plentiful, the food was flavorful and seasoned well, and the items were priced well for the value. What we ordered: - Small Jerk Chicken plate with rice & peas and cabbage - Jerk Chicken pasta - Side order of Macaroni and cheese We wish we lived closer, so we could visit Island Grill & Pub regularly, but it's definitely on our list any time we travel to the Rock Hill area!

Absolutely zero "F's" were given in the food preparation. The textures were appalling, as if the food had been scorched and then left out for hours before serving. The only remotely edible thing was the cold, burnt plantains, but even those were barely tolerable. I kept biting into gritty bits that I couldn't even identify as food, which made me seriously question the safety of what I was eating. If I had access to a lab, I would submit it to see what I'd [really] been served. I ended up throwing my entire meal in the garbage. To top it off, they've changed the name of the place, which just raises even more red flags. I can't help but wonder why they felt the need to do that. It's a waste of money, time, hope and food to ever go here. They disrespected the life of the poor chicken who died for this wretched soot seasoned, curry chicken slop. If my husband or anyone suggested this place I would seriously consider throwing hands. It doesn't matter what they are calling it now. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this place.

Portions were significantly smaller and the ham croquetas were very disappointing. They definitely changed the way they made them.
