I met Mr. Gary at my job, and for the record, I'm given business cards pretty often, so I normally pay no attention to them, let alone consider using the person's services since I usually prefer word-of-mouth recommendations. But seeing as I enjoyed connecting and chatting with Mr. Gary--and coincidentally needed an oil change pretty badly--I figured, why not give it a try? When I called to make an appointment, I told whoever I was talking to that I truthfully had no idea what the hell I was doing and that all I needed was an oil change LOL. I was able to get an appointment pretty quickly, so I just had to wait for the day to come. Once I got there, Gary and John were super sweet and helpful. For once at a mechanic shop, I actually felt welcomed and respected as a young woman and didn't feel like I'd be taken advantage of because of my lack of car knowledge. That was honestly super refreshing. After my oil change was done and I came back to pick up my car, Mr. Gary pointed out a couple of things that might become issues or inconveniences in the future. I told him I wasn't worried about them at the moment and for the first time ever at a mechanic shop, there was no pressure to pay for extra services or repairs. For once, I didn't have a man talking to me like I was an idiot. All he said was that he understood and that if I ever needed anything else for my car, to come back and he'd take care of me. As long as they're open and I'm alive, this will forever be my go-to mechanic shop for ANYTHING I need. No matter what. If I could give this shop 100 stars out of 10, I would. This store and Gary were recommended to me by my mother in law when my Dart's transmission screwed up. Its the only car for me and my wife going to work and my mother to dialysis and doctors appointments, Gary was amazing to both my mother and I and extremely professional. I was quoted almost $2000 and 4-6 day wait at another mechanic. I got it towed here on Thursday afternoon and I drove it home early Friday afternoon. He quoted us at around $700 but ended up knocking it down to $615 for us. He also told us to call him for any future issues with the car, even if he couldn't handle the problem he would help talk us through it and make sure we weren't ripped off by a less scrupulous mechanic. They Tried to charge me for a whole new engine (6k) when I didn't actually need it!!! thank God I got a second opinion!! The DREAD auto repair on Theresa Drive in Jacksonville was able to fix it by replacing a few hoses ended up costing about 1200 in total!!! When I called The DREAD at first I told them it probably needs a new engine, but I just wanted to make sure so he could have went ahead and told me that it did but he was an honest mechanic which is very hard to find! He said there is no way the other auto repair shop could have diagnosed it with a new engine with all of the hose leaks, but if we replaced all the hoses, the engine might be good and it worked! This place is a HUGE rip off. I was told one price but when I showed up it was $2K more. Owner is extremely friendly...REALLY NOT APPROPRIATE OR PROFESSIONAL TO TO HUGGING WOMEN YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW. He and his shop manager tag up and back each other up. After a month and me even purchasing parts for them to install and $6K later I got my car back. This shop honestly restored my faith in people... I was recently referred by another shop to Cargo Transmission when I was having an issue shifting my Honda Odyssey. It was a very busy time to get into a shop due to re-opening around the state and everywhere seemed to be booked up for multiple days.. although he seemed equally as busy as everyone I had spoken with that day, Gary told me to come by the shop, and they could at least take a look at it for me. I had decided then, in that moment, that whatever the problem, I was likely going to leave my vehicle there to be fixed because this man was nice enough to actually listen to the situation and empathize. I showed up at the shop and Gary very politely introduced himself to me, and then to John.. John went out for not even 10 minutes and came back in and tossed me my keys and showed me a tree nut that had somehow bounced up into my shift box. This was all that was keeping me from shifting my car into park. I had been so worried about what could have been causing this, the cost, etc. and these men didn't even charge me for troubleshooting my vehicle. If I had went to the dealership I easily would have spent a couple hundred dollars. When I left, Gary told me 'God Bless' and sent me on my way. I am a RN and had been working a lot and was so worried about when and how I could put my car in the shop, with that being my only day off for a while... and it sounds silly, but I honestly pulled out of the shop with tears in my eyes, all because of a simple act of kindness. I would absolutely recommend Gary and the guys at Cargo Transmission - this is the kind of shop that reminds me of the small town ones back home (OH/WV) that my family loved so much. We were returning home to Massachusetts from gigs in South Florida. We were on 95 on the outskirts of Jacksonville, when the van developed troubles. We pulled off the highway. Transmission fluid was everywhere. The van would not go. We got a tow from AAA... The place we went to is Cargo Transmission in Jacksonville, Florida The transmission fitting at the radiator blew, they replaced it. They refilled the Transmission Fluid (it had all leaked out), and they said that the Transmission is in great shape. They had us back on the road in a couple of hours. I was having issues with the transmission took it to one transmission shop was told it needed To be rebuilt and would cost me a large sum of money. A friend recommended cargo .I made an appointment had my car looked at and it was a sensor not the transmission saved me a ton of money.
