Shared room with shared bathroom, little privacy, often difficult to sleep and awakened at 5:30 am to make sure the night shift can get patients ready for therapy before the day shift arrives. Food generally not good; some residents order food delivered. Administrator was rude at check in after not explaining all of the facility policies to me. Discharge planner referred me to a home health agency, Amedysis, that is not in the UNC system, which is odd for a UNC hospital. This agency apparently cannot access my doctors' records re: my rehabilitation goals through UNC MyChart. If you are a UNC patient, ask lots of questions before agreeing to referral to Amedysis.

The facility is truly one of the nicest and most up to date facility in NC. The rooms are large and and wheelchair friendly! The bathrooms were planned to accommodate people with major mobility issues. The PT and OT teams are outstanding, I cannot say enough abt those teams. I was very fortunate to work with Buella, she was OUTSTANDING... from our 1st visit to our last visit. It did not take Buella long to understand how the MS impacts my mobility using my legs and arms. She was always upbeat and ready to go. She seemed to understand my struggle both physically and psychologically . I also worked with Julia and Ted. My PT and OT Teams were determined for me to meet each of my goals before I left them. They each had a plan for me to achieve my goals. However, they were open and receptive to what I felt worked best for meet. The gentleman heading the facility was more involved than ANY... Administrator I had EVER stay with for 3-4 weeks. I saw his at least 5 days a week. When I requested to see the person in charge of the facility... I was shocked to see the person who had stopped in my room on various occasions. I thought he was maybe the Lead in my area of the facility, never thinking... he gave the entire facility the attention I received. The doctors were some of the same doctors I saw at the other top Rehab facility in the area.. The gym is large enough to NEVER feel there isn't enough space to try thgs u may not be comfortable doing. Having the kitchen setup near the gym entrance saves time, bc you can begin and end with kitchen activities and not miss a beat. Living in the Holly Springs/ Fuquay area it is a big deal to not have to go to Raliegh or Durham. The Apex location is a big deal for family visits, 15 mins vs 40 mins and 56 miles round trip is a big deal.

The doctors, the rehab therapist, and the support staff were excellent. However, the nursing staff was not good. I had two falls. I was never informed that there was an outbreak of Covid 19 prior to my arrival. I made myself available for every therapy session. On the 28th, I was too sick for therapy and on March 1st I had to be taken by emergency services back to Wake Med where I was diagnosed with Covid. I did not return to Peak. They are licensed for 52 patients and they were not at capacity while I was there. And while the staff is diverse, I believe I was the only person of color there as a patient. My suggestion to cure this situation is to have training for the nursing staff, especially the night nursing staff, in the area of sensitivity to patient's needs and on cultural humility. Cynthia

The room I visited was very clean and spacious- every consideration tastefully in place. The atmosphere was serenely bittersweet- I tell you. I made a number of inquiries to them as I learned more about Long Term Care and determining what was important for the care of my wife. The sales group was very helpful and getting information that I requested and provided information they anticipated that I might need in planning. After about 4 weeks, I decided that TerraBella North Ridge was the facility that met my budget and care concerns. Lot of paperwork to be completed but that went pretty smooth. I made a number of trips to visit my wife at different times to see how the memory care unit was being run. The care staff were impressive in how they care for the residents. They are outgoing and helpful in the care of the residents. The memory care unit has residents with various needs and they work to meet them. I was not aware that TerraBella has PAs that can take over the role of Primary Care Provider so the residents do not have to go out which would have been a problem for me. There are also long term pharmacies that can provide the needed medications that packaged to TerraBella requirements. I continued to learn other things the care group does such as some hair trimming and trimming finger nails. I checked on the dining offerings and the food served was good. They have food that is prepared in different ways that the resident may need. I have been impressed with TerraBella in providing all the needed care that my wife needs. I would recommend that you setup an appointment to see the facility and talk with with staff there if you are looking for assisted living or memory care.

The institutional facilities work with the worst and leave the others to fend for themselves. Kelley's Family Care Home quickly rose to the top of our list and we felt fortunate to be one of the "charter" families to place our loved one.
