Automax Sales Training is a nationwide company that trains people for various jobs. I don't know…read morehow they do in other areas but steer clear of their auto sales classes! It all starts out when you'll see an advertisement online or in the newspaper for a flexible, well paid (up to $90,000) career opportunity at a local car dealership. When you get in contact with them, Jessica Lockerd (an Automax representative and wife of the owner Craig) will contact you saying to get back to her with a time and date you can come in for an interview during the next Monday or Tuesday. She'll also remind you not to forget to bring your resume. When you get to the interview, they'll tell you the dealership has lots of openings and as long as you maintain eye contact with the interviewer and have some sales experience no matter how small it is you get told you're good enough to make the cut and will be invited back for the Automax Sales Training 3-day class that upcoming Wednesday-Friday. It sounds great and like it's too good to be true and that's all because it is! Approximately 10+ people get invited to the class and at the beginning everyone is told that the host dealership has a ton of openings and are all guaranteed of finding work. The class days are long and while you do learn a few things, they're so condensed that it's basically impossible to retain all the information not to mention pointless since you're not going to get the job anyways. They also make sure you pay the $499 fee up front and also try to sell you an additional $89 lifetime placement option for a grand total of $588. At the end of the third day you get a training handbook, training CD, and a crummy certificate of completion. Not a lot of value at all for the expensive price. But you're told that the dealership will reimburse you the initial $499 fee after 3 months of working there and this is good no matter which dealership you go to. As soon as the class is over the trainer takes off and the trainees wait around for 2 hours until the dealership will begin to interview them. They talk to you for a minute and then tell you that if they like you then you'll hear by early next week. Not surprisingly, I didn't hear back. But I got suckered into the lifetime placement opportunity so I figured I could just go to a different local branch immediately. I called Charles Branson at the placement office at (866) 586-7343 ext. 110 and told him I didn't get hired at the host dealership. Charles told me he'd look around and get back to me within 3 days. A week later he called saying a dealership was hiring and gave me the phone number, however the big problem was that it was over an hour away from me. This seemed ridiculous since there's at least 10 national dealerships in my town alone, not too mention all the ones in neighboring towns. I told him this was too far, so he snapped at me, put me on the inactive list, and told me to call back when I was serious about my career. I called back a month and a half later and came back with the same result only this one was maybe 10 minutes closer but was still too far. Then a funny thing happened as I bumped into another one of my former classmates a little less than a month after that and asked if he got placed at the host Freehold Ford Dealership. He said he didn't and that only 1 of the 12 students actually got a job offer there when we were all told that there was a chance for everyone. Another interesting bit of information he found out was that the only dealership that'd reimburse you the $499 is the host dealership and even if you went to one that sponsored these Automax Sales Training classes then you were out of luck. Finally it turns out that he found his job on his own, according to him he called the placement office and got tired of waiting so he just looked in the paper and took it from there. All in all you don't need to pay this hefty fee, anything you need to know the dealership will teach you themselves the first week or two after they hire you. The trainer I had was Jere Conover. He is supposedly the slickest out of all of them so definitely beware. He's a liar and a sleazy salesperson. He'll basically tell you anything you want to hear until you pay for the class at which point you'll start realizing he's not nearly as nice as he first came off to be. Jere told our class many fibs but the worst of all was that it's only a 40 hour work week when in fact you find out after the 'training' from the dealership that it's anywhere between 50-60 hours a week. Automax Sales Training is a complete rip-off and I highly recommend that you stay away from them at all costs, as you'll wind up very sorry and short of some of your hard-earned dollars! It's all part of a fraudulent activity and isn't worth a penny of the cost!

For better and worse I've followed WXPN for years (shout out to my friend Robert Drake!). But for whatever strange reason I haven't been to a an XPoNential Festival until this year. But I've always made note of how the diversity of the lineup always managed to successfully reflect upon the diversity of the station. And off the bat I'll also add that although I jumped upon the opportunity to be the point man at the Yelp Table with an enthusiastic HELL YES the moment that Monica asked me; They Might Be Giants, Peter Bjorn & John, East Hundred, Illinois and many others would have had me seeing it anyway. I do have to give it up to the dedication XPN puts into setting up the festival, Since I've walked through Wiggins Park as a bare bones park when leaving the Tweeter (whatever it's called) Center before (and will be reviewing now that I know what it's called), I can honestly attest to the fact that NO part of the stages, or any of the booths are there when the festival isn't in session. So that gives you the start of understanding how much they put into it. But when you factor in things like the entire fest being broad-casted on air, how they accommodate it's volunteers and sponsors during the fest, and then some it becomes abundantly clear. and the effort that WXPN puts into shows throughout. In the end I was beyond thrilled with getting to see TMBG and Peter Bjorn & John for the first time ever, and I also enjoyed getting reacquainted with local favorites like East Hundred and Gillian Grassie (swoon). But I also had the chance to discover new favorites like Perkasie and The Hold Steady. I'm not going to lie and pretend that things like the burnt burger with cheese whiz, the random bouts of rain, The Bacon Brothers, and the crowd who came to see Toby Keith play the Center of Evil Ticket Bastard didn't make me want to grab a shovel and bury myself. But over all the festival made for an absolutely AMAZING weekend. And I got to spend it all alongside some pretty awesome yelpers, which made for a priceless occasion.

I've had this on my calendar since Be Well Philly announced it in March and I finally checked it out for the 4th of July weekend. It was a smaller class than I think is normal for them (I creep on them on their facebook page so I know these things) The instructor (Ashley?) was great and her mic was audible but not booming or static-y. The two people helping with assists were great too. The class was a bit easier than Dhyana's regular classes, but still fun and challenging. Tips: - bring cash for the tip jar. - get there a few minutes before 11 to get a spot. - wear sunscreen on your nose and shoulders so you don't get awkward sports bra tan. (Personal experience here) - be OK with being looked at. People will be running/biking/segwaying (lol) by and checking you out in your downward dog. - pick a spot that's not on a slant or rocks. - pick a spot that's going the same direction as everyone else. - don't forget to dust the little bugs of your mat before you roll it up. - bring water, it gets hot! - join the facebook group for updates. Check it out!

Yoga on the Banks is a must-do for any local yogi, tourist or individual looking to give yoga a…read moretry. There is something that makes you breathe a little deeper and embrace the moment a little more when practicing yoga in the serenity of the outdoors. The trail, river and skyline are your backdrop and your "studio" is the lawn on the Schuylkill River Trail at Locust Street. Classes are scheduled seasonally on Saturdays and Sundays at 11am, and Tuesdays at 7am and again at 6:30pm. Since the classes are outside, their Facebook page will post any weather related changes to the schedule. The classes are donation based and $5-$10 is recommended. Beginning in 2015, Shake Shack will be sponsoring the third Saturday of each month and will be providing vouchers for a free post-class beverage for all attendees. By nature of the classes being outdoors in a non-private setting, there will be other things going on around you. Runners will continue to run, bikers will continue to bike, smokers will continue to smoke and dogs will continue to bark. Some of those distractions are both nice, but distractions at the same time. If you aren't looking to get a total Zen (or perhaps you are good at blocking everything else out) this is something to note. My first Yoga on the Banks experience was April 18th and boy was it packed. They did a great job of handling the crowds and had instructors at various points on the lawn. Kathryn Blessington led the north end of the lawn and did a great job communicating instructions from the front of the group on the south end of the lawn. I'm not sure if the class had been planned out to a tee beforehand, but she was able to make sure everyone in the back had the same great experience as everyone in the front. The class was Vinyasa style at a beginner/intermediate level. To be honest, I'm glad it wasn't any hard because that would have been way to challenging on the slanted and uneven ground. Street parking is available off the trail if you leave yourself spot hunting time and a fence is available to lock up a bike. Of course you can always run or walk there for some extra exercise. I look forward to many more opportunities to take in the scenery and practice yoga in such a unique setting.

Lexus owners/drivers received some nice perks (free VIP parking, luxury suite amenities, and additional wines/cuisine to sample). All you had to do was show your Lexus key fob and you're in. I felt like a big-shot by gaining us access to the lounge with flash of my key. Ooh la la! This event boasts hundreds of wines to sample and upscale food to nosh on. No giant pretzels nor hotdogs here! VIP tickets allow for early admission as well as a guided tour of the Eagles locker room, press room, and the tunnel they pass through prior to running onto the field. Even I was pretty starstruck by being so close to the action and I am not even an Eagles fan! The event was not overly crowded and we loved that there were ample fresh wine glasses at every turn, as well as ample water stations. Wine in that volume can be very dehydrating, so we were thrilled to keep our whistles wet with some H2O. It's held indoors so no worries about cooperation (or lack thereof) from Mother Nature. We found some delicious wines that we were able to purchase and take home that evening. They have a wine purchase area, but no worries if your favorite vino is not on hand...you can order anything and everything you sampled. This event needs to be held in Philadelphia quarterly!
