My 93-year old mother spent 14 weeks at Burien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for post-surgery…read morerecovery for a broken hip. I visited Burien NRC multiple times during that period. My mother received good care, and the physical and occupational therapies were particularly helpful. Everyone I spoke to was helpful. Mom was a two-person transfer, so it could sometimes take as long as 30 minutes after her call button had been pressed before two aides became available. But most of this time the wait was shorter, around 10 minutes. It's an older building, but well maintained and kept scrupulously clean; no bad smells anywhere. Parking is difficult, since Burien NRC is in a residential area and has a limited number of parking spaces. It's two occupants per room, with a tiny bathroom shared between two rooms. Difficult for a non-ambulatory patient to access the bathroom. But, given the age of the building, no way to enlarge the bathrooms. Food was good, I took meals several times with my mother. Residents are encouraged to take their meals in the dining room, but are not required to do so. They have a hair salon staffed one day a week. 93 year old patients entering a skilled nursing facility for broken hip recovery don't have an encouraging prognosis for ever leaving. But due to the hard work of all the Burien NRC staff, my mother made it, and is now back at the assisted living facility she had been in before her fall. So well done, Burien NRC.

Residents (patients) are given an opportunity for daily participation in group exercises including strength training, games and informative Daily Bulletin which encourages socializing to aid the healing process. Additionally management has a monthly meeting with patients (residents) and is willing to hear concerns and suggestions. Is the facility perfect? no. Could they use more staff? yes Additional staff would decrease the time responding to patient (resident) call button requests. Call button system needs to be updated. Every day I was met with dedicated, professional nurses, aides, and support staff. I want to thank each and every one of them for helping to make a "broken" person " whole" again.
