After games last year I was skeptical about getting any tickets again this year. I got one of the mini plans to ease back in and this year has been a much better experience. One of the best college stadiums to watch a football game and always has been. They've corrected the admission process that had people still standing in the parking lot at kickoff last year. The connectivity is better at entry and concessions which makes everything move much faster and enables me to post this review. Concessions are still way too expensive or L&N probably would have gotten a fifth star. Even at $16.50 I am gonna have to try a Barry's Bowl today and a pic will follow. All chair back seating is awesome and the majority of fans and workers are very friendly. read more

I always have a blast here at Cardinal Stadium. I've been here so many times for football games and a couple of concerts and go cards by the way. We're always a fan win or lose. But we have so much fun here at the stadium and it's a well-built stadium with a lot a good seating and they really upgraded it a lot over the years it's just an overall very fun experience every time. read more

Amandas love this stadium! I think this stadium falls into the 'good enough' category. It's a shame that the UofL football team has gone so downhill since the first time Petrino was here. Say what you want about how crazy Petrino is, he never should've left UofL over a decade ago to try and coach in the NFL. The Yum Center or as my friends like to call it, The Yummy Center, is a world-class facility. This field is okay and it gets the job done but I've been to better stadiums. Someone else mentioned an echo with the sound system. That's definitely the case. At an event, drinks tend to be expensive at a place like this. While they're expensive here, they aren't price gouging like most other places. I would also say that this place is good enough for concerts but that really depends on how/where the artist sets up their stage and where your seats are. The concessions leave something to be desired. It is football food but it reminds me more of a high school football offering than a college offering. Honestly, your money would be better spent at a Louisville City game. I also hate to prop up baseball but you might even have a better time at a Bats game(that's likely because of Slugger Field though). It's one of the better stadiums around, but it does have its issues, as you can see from some of the other reviews. 6.30.17 Taylor Swift Rep Tour. Complete chaos entering & leaving. I felt so badly for the families such as moms & dads & their little kids that had no warning that you could only bring in clear purses or no larger than 6x4. No larger than my hand. Families were walking away w/ their kids cause they had no alternative to storing their purses or even small sized messenger type purse. A fanny Pack was too big. Purses were everywhere abandoned! I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it. Even inside of the arena, the smoothie shop could only take cash, waits on pepperoni pizza at the Papa John's stand, the pork sandwich & brats were a hot mess. They were pre-made stuffed in a warm fridge so when you got to it the buns were soggy. I wasted $30 to not eat what I ordered. Leaving after the concert was a fiasco. All the streets were blocked off & sidewalks. You had to pray for a way to get to your car or ride. Hey! Come visit the T Mobile arena in Vegas & learn a thing or two about running a smooth operation. I swear patrons will be happily shocked & want to come back. I still remember when they were first building the Papa John's Stadium and how excited everyone was. It's nice to see that excitement still around to this day, and how they are now adding oodles of dollars into revamping it. Compared to the field we used to have, this one is a MAJOR upgrade already. It's a wonderful place to watch a game, grab a beer, and wear lots of red. The best pro about the stadium is its space. The parking and seating are huge, so there should never be issues with either of the two. There's dozens of concession stands that have just about whatever greasy food you want. Been a season ticket holder for over 15 years. Love my Louisville cardinals and love the progression and growth this stadium has made over the years. I believe it is one of the largest if not the largest seat back (non bleacher) stadium in the USA. So that alone makes the comfort level great. While I haven't sat in brand new section (still under construction) but there is not a bad seat in the stadium. They have plenty of restrooms so the lines and looking and finding restrooms does not keep you away from much game action. Plenty of parking options at and around he stadium with several places to tailgate. Overall a great place to watch a football game. Go cards!! read more

I have been to many UofL games at Cardinal Stadium and a couple of concerts over the years. any of the lower-level seating is great and gives a good view. The staff has always been friendly and there is plenty of concession stands, there is usually a wait but that is at most stadiums or large venues. Seeing Taylor Swift at Cardinal Stadium was an awesome experience very cool to see that huge of a crowd all enjoying the same artist in one spot! read more

To see we're the University has come since 1990's. Last time I was in it They hadn't built the 2nd upper deck or added bleachers in end zone we're players come out. Place is very nice concessions are easy to get to, Along with bathrooms. We had 5 women in our group, They all had minimal purses & was told at main entrances they wouldn't be able to bring them in. We went on & had no problem at all. Everyone was hand scanned with metal detector going in. Add extra time to get in. read more

Great newer stadium. It seems like they are doing new upgrades every year. Great views from every seat I've had and I've had a few. Ticket prices are reasonable for the most part and the food and drink prices are high unless there is a "happy hour special" or something going on. Restroom are kept pretty clean given the number of people and they get in to empty the trash frequently. Parking is limited, but lots of folks trying to make a buck around the stadium give you some pretty good options. Tailgating in the Expo Center parking lot before football games is organized and a lot of fun. read more

Probably the best stadium in the country. When packed with cardinal fans, one of the loudest, ground shaken stadiums around. Even while seated in the upper section, still a very good view of the whole game. Concessions can get backed up during half time though. My wife and children dragged me to a Taylor Swift concert at Cardinal Stadium - just kidding, I dragged them! Anyway, the venue staff were on their A game regarding the security measures and the check-in process. For a sellout concert, they made things flow very smoothly! I'm not a Cards fan but I was here to see my Noles get a hard fought won over the Cards here on a Thursday night. The stadium isn't huge but is a pretty good size at maybe 55,000. The stadium has a new, modern feel and the view even from the top deck isn't bad at all (but walking up the ramps to get up there will burn off that southern food you ate pregame). The entire stadium is seats rather than backless metal benches so everyone's back says thank you to whoever made that decision. One odd thing is the seats don't fold up like at most stadiums so getting up to let someone walk by can be a little tricky. They serve beer and bourbon here and the prices aren't awful by stadium standards. The fans were really loud and also couldn't have been nicer. The Louisville fans behind me saw my FSU gear and talked to me most of the game. The guys in front of me said they were UK fans there to cheer against the Cards. I had a great time and look forward to coming back in 2 yrs when the Noles will be back. Let's hope they win again and Louisville is a welcome addition to the ACC. read more

I love coming to Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium to watch my team play! The suites are great but I love getting closer to the game to watch. If you don't love the seats, you can visit the Skydeck? for socializing. It's a really nice stadium in my opinion. Fans can get out of control but I feel safe with the amount of security that I see around. I hate that you can't take a purse in now but I can't blame the Stadium. They have to do what's best to protect patrons. My one complaint- the prices for snacks and drinks is straight up ridiculous! I know it's for fund raising but give me a break! A typical working class family could not afford to take their family to a game and buy snacks. read more

Attended a wedding reception at the PNC Club in Cardinal Stadium this past weekend. It was a great venue for the gathering. It is spacious, plenty of parking, a great view overlooking the football field, where the wedding party was able to go and take photos. The wait staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was prepared by the in-house caterers and I was not that impressed with the food but there was an open bar so.... The place looked gorgeous which I assume the bride did the decorations but the space was so user friendly. Dance floor was added to accommodate the dancing so that was nice. There was a crowd of about 250 folks and we had plenty of room. Plenty of bathrooms and we were able to use the outdoor space of the party deck for corn hole during the reception. All in all a lovely venue with good folks. read more

Great first visit to Papa Johns Stadium. The layout of this place is pretty nice. I'd like to think there is not really a bad seat in this place. I feel like once they finish adding the last section it'll look great. My one gripe is the seats are like those plastic seats when you visit someone in jail. Haha they are very tiny and uncomfortable. I don't recommend buying tickets from the box office game day. Prices seem to be elevated and not worth it. I also recommend trying to get a parking pass, otherwise random parking ranges from 15-20 dollars. The tailgating looks awesome. Louisville sure knows how to throw a good tailgate. If you're a Cardinal fan I highly recommend checking a game out this season!! read more

Having opened in 1998, Papa John's Cardinal Stadium is home to the University of Louisville Cardinals football team! The stadium is one of my favorite places on earth. I may be biased as a huge UofL fan, but I know it is definitely a NICE venue. All seats have chair backs. Bathrooms have numerous stalls (though you'll likely run into a line if you go at halftime). I've never sat in the new/upper deck, but from my experience, there is not a bad seat in the house. As far as concessions (because Yelpers love their food!), it's not all amazing; it's generally your typical concession fare. However, they serve Erhler's ice cream (which has pretty much gone extinct otherwise in Louisville) and German roasted nuts (mmm), among a few other favorites of mine. You can expect to pay the typical overpriced costs, but what else can you expect? I highly recommend checking out a game here. For football, you need a parking pass, but otherwise, there is plenty of on-site parking, along with plenty of other lots nearby. (I personally park on campus and walk down to the stadium; it's a mile or less.) UofL does not skimp on anything when it comes to athletic venues, and this is a great example. Though it may not have the history of some big name stadiums, this venue is very nice. If you're here for a football game, I'll likely be here too! So... Go Cards! read more

Park on the fair grounds. It's $8 and an easy walk- just a little over a mile. We love Cardinal football!! This is a great stadium- always clean with lots of friendly people. They treat the fans very well here. Stay in your seats at halftime! The marching band is better than ever this season! (I'm a music teacher and former marching band kid). The venue? Horrible. The concert? Unforgettable. To start: I had to be dropped off a mile from the stadium. Traffic was not being directed and people from out of town were just trying to get to a parking lot or garage. The heat index was something crazy (I forget how hot, but it was 90 degrees + with humidity. I saw so many families with small children having to walk from even further back than what my friend and I did, and then multiple parents were saying they had no choice, if they wanted to make it to the concert on time. I live 5 miles away. It took my driver an hour and 15 minutes to get us a mile away from the stadium. Yes. I left that much earlier in preparation. I didn't leave soon enough. My friend and I made it to our seats at exactly 7:25 and we watched as the stadium did not fill until well after 8:30. So many people were saying it was because of the traffic. Let's take a small step back though-- Getting into the venue and all the mishaps. One entrance had broken E-readers so that was pushing everyone to the other lines that were already overwhelmingly busy. At the entrance, women were forced to leave their clutches. The rule for the clutches does not make sense because the only thing small enough that fits in the parameters is a man's wallet. I even took out the 3 cards and chapstick from my small clutch and showed that there was nothing left in it, and I was still forced to leave my purse behind. My friend and I had to put our cards and chapstick in our cleavage because of course we had no pockets that held our phone plus cards and other items. There was a family in front of me who had two small children with play purses and just lip glosses in the purses.....they were forced to leave their play purses as well. Their dad showed that only his wallet fit in the parameters of their 'small clutch' rule. Isn't this rule in place so you know that no one is bringing in illegal items and hiding stuff in larger purses? why are children forced to leave a completely empty purse that was only being used as a transporter for lipgloss?? To top that whole experience off, my friend and I kept seeing so many women with larger purses who had made it through another line and not forced to give up their purses. Very upsetting. Inside the venue, card machines were broken and most stands only accepted cash, so you were forced to pay the ATM to get money out, or just not buy anything to drink or eat. Oh and the service lines? Long waits and not many happy people working at them. I will say shout out to the people working at the Bud Light and hot dog stand at the back--thank you for passing out waters to the line as we waited. To the important part: The performer. Taylor Swift is such a great performer and worth the overpriced nosebleed seat ticket prices. My friend and I ended up standing in the shade at a free standing bar area (along with a lot of people who were seated in the direct sun light for 2+ hours). I would give the venue props for the show...but it was all thanks to the Swift crew, Swift herself, and the great fans I met and stood by. Swift even gave out light up wrist bands that made the show phenomenal!!! A+++ Taylor! Thank you for making the night unforgettable, and thank you Cardinal Stadium, for showing me how a venue is NOT suppose to handle an event. read more

Eh. I've been to hundreds of stadiums. This was not one of the better ones. First, the home side faces the sun. So put on a hat and wear sun glasses. The service for the food lines were HORRIBLE. The worst part was trying to leave the stadium. They were not at all prepared. Never going back here. read more

Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium is the home of the Uof L Cardinals football team but also a fantastic venue for outdoor concerts. We recently attended the U2 concert at Cardinal Stadium and were so happy to find out that all seats are chair backs! What a difference that makes for any event. The layout is basically a stadium layout. There are a lot of spots to get a beer, soft drinks and food. The prices are pretty much like other stadiums - refreshments are expensive. Bathrooms are placed throughout the footprint. There are not enough bathrooms. I don't know if it is possible to have enough without using up too much space. The biggest negative for us was that once you exit the stadium the available routes to leave are super crowded. We were walking and had to wait a long, long time for the one stairway to clear so we could reach the sidewalk above. Really poor planning! People were climbing up a grass embankment to cut in line and falling down. Some were climbing halfway up and going over the rail. In case of some emergency evacuating the lot via the stairs would be a disaster. You can go through a tunnel to access parking lots but if you are walking and trying to reach the street it is precarious. read more

Coming to the stadium the closer u come to game time the crazier it gets from critnen drive where arby s is. People will put beer bottles on a ledge. Of the road it's on coming from Uofl and that mc Donald's by it. There is a ticket window and usually busy closer to game time. Came here a few weeks ago with my buddy to watch UC play Louisville. The parking around the stadium stinks as we were waiting in line to find a spot and then just parked in a BP station for 20. The stadium is big and has lots of ramps which is how we got to our seats, the only thing that is really weird in the stadium is the mens room has pig style troughs for the men to use the rest room. This stadium was built in 98 and that is odd to me. All the fans around us were very respectful and very nice and wished us a safe trip home. read more

So I'm a Cardinal fan. I take pride in the fact that I graduated from UofL unlike some UK fans who will go to their grave bleeding blue even though they've never stepped foot on the Wildcat campus. Anyway, I digress. John as in The "Papa John" of Pizza fronted some serious Benjamin's in the building of this place and as stadiums go, well, it's a typical stadium. It is fairly clean (as best as they can manage), and it seems they try and improve this place every year. For instance, in the women's room, they now have official University of Louisville soap dispensers, and they're the automatic type so no germs from the thousands of people who congregate here. I notice these "special touches" Papa and I for one appreciate them. Another improvement is the additional seating that seems to head straight for the cloud section. I'm glad I don't have to climb those towers with the zig-zaging stairwells, especially after having a couple of beers. Beer, beer, did someone say beer? This stadium DOES sell beer. I recently learned that only 35 of the 120 NCAA Division I schools allow the sale of beer within their sport stadium. (Yes I googled this fact because I couldn't believe it myself when someone told me this nugget of information). When "dry" schools hear about our stadium of barley and hops, maybe we'll get more home games? Cardinal stadium does have a decent selection of suds. The standard American brews are well represented but you can also find a tiny craft beer stand of BBC and Shock Top. Woohoo. If you've been here and haven't found it, keep looking Frodo Baggins because it does exist. As far as stadium grub goes, it's pretty typical. Brats, hot dogs, popcorn, pretzels, and of course Papa John's pizza. New this year is the Mexican cantina, which is a step up from stadium nachos because you can get them with chicken AND....wait for it.....lettuce and tomatoes. Not artificially flavored or processed - it's the real deal. It's served on this crazy innovative plate that has utensils (knife, fork, spoon) built into it. You simply pull them off to use when you want to feel refined and classy while eating your round tortilla chips. They also had something called a "walking taco." I don't know what that is exactly but I like the sound if it. Food that walks with you. I kind of picture it walking beside me holding my hand. *sigh* Anyway, this is a step in a good direction. There is always more room for improvement in the food department. How about offering more health conscious fare? I know, I know, I'm in the minority here, I mean, who goes to a game for a salad? Great venue for Cardinal sports

If you plan to visit cardinal Stadium in Louisville for a football game Beware!!! You will stand in line for 1 hour minimum just to get in the stadium. At every gate they have 1 person , let me say that again ONE person doing security screenings. We arrived at the stadium at 6:30 for an 8:00pm game and missed the first 5 min of the game!!! There were people around us that didn't make it in until the 2nd quarter . LADIES !!!! There is a strict hand bag size !!!!! It's just a tad bit bigger than a mans wallet!!! Really!! If the bag touches the line of the box they have on the table your handbag/purse will not be allowed in! Can you imagine the tears of these women as they stood in line 2 hours and then were told there handbag was to big either throw it out or go back to your car drop it off go back to the end of the line and do it over again. CRAZY!!!!! Concessions was just as bad ! Bad service!!! Foods good ! Just SLOW !!! I'm a Cards fan but I will never be back to Cardinal Stadium after that fiasco!! I prefer the football games over the others, but whatever. I have spent time in great seats, the UPS deck, the PNC Club or just walking around the place being social. It is a fun place to watch U of L football games, but also to hang out and tailgate before and during them too! Last weekend I was out and about before the game handing out basketball schedules for a judicial candidate in town. I was glad to walk around and show off some team spirit as well as grab a reasonably priced $2 beer as I did my volunteering. PJCS is just another example of an excellent University of Louisville venue. The stadium, atmosphere, and people all make for a great mix. Of course I'm slightly biased being a Cards fan but I think this is one of the better stadiums I've been to. The stadium is always clean, the workers always happy to see you, and the fans are (of course) ready to have a good time with thousands of their closest friends. There are plenty of options for food and drink around the stadium. If I eat here (which I've done maybe twice) I always stick to some pizza. The bathrooms are large with plenty of stalls so there's really only a wait if you're going during halftime. The parking isn't the best around, but there are plenty of options outside of the stadium parking. I live close enough to walk and people park in our neighborhood to walk over.. Tailgating and plenty of parking takes place at the fairgrounds. Not a bad walk and only $8. My favorite tailgating, though, is at Wagner's just down Central Parkway. I meet friends and family over there and always grab a breakfast sandwich from inside which I would highly recommend. I think this stadium has a great atmosphere filled with friendly fans. This is definitely one of the better stadiums I've been to. Easy access to your seats and hand railing along the stairs make you feel safer when walking down some of these steep steps. The bathrooms are close to all seating areas too and large enough to where you don't have to wait in line, or if you do have to wait it's a short wait. even the lines for the concessions move really quickly which is important when you're watching a game! read more
