The campground is wide open with a beautiful view of the lake. The grounds are kept immaculate and it is so quite and peaceful even though it's not very private. The bathrooms are clean and well stocked and the host was around even day checking on things. She was wonderful! We loved our stay and our campsite. Can't wait to be back!

We arrived here for a one-night stay while I addressed some business that I had to take care of (Ahem, local state troopers handing out undeserved speeding tickets to out-of-state drivers like candy in this area... you warned. I was not.) I will begin by saying that the office staff was very helpful as accommodating as they could be given the circumstances. The campground itself is laid out very poorly. The main site areas are made up of dirt and mud. They are situated on top of very hilly roads in the middle of a forest. These full shade sites were hard to navigate as the spots were laid out at very steep angles with closely laid out trees and sharp banks that were enough to make us approach our site several times to ensure our exhaust pipes didn't clip the ground and that our camper didn't roll. There are a lot of seasonal campers at this location--which is only a warning because the electrical grid isn't sufficient to handle everyone coming home at 5pm and turning on their A/Cs and water heaters. The voltage was below 104 volts before we even plugged our RV in--a level that was so low it cause our EMS to cut out. Our site's electricity was so consistently non-functional that we eventually had to request a different location in the campground--a request to which the staff was very kind about. In addition to an almost total the lack of cell phone reception (Verizon), the promised on-site Wifi was almost missing in action. There was a very slow connection that could be had as you approached the main office, but the majority of the electric/water-only sites were completely out of range. If you're okay with just going off-grid and are only looking for a quiet night's sleep... you're out of luck here too. There is an active railroad they crosses through the campground. You will hear trains loudly. For the price ($34 for an electric/water site or $42 for a full-hookup) this just isn't worth the stay. We will not be returning.

The sites are spacious and clean! Great for us and the dogs. The fire pits were well kept and made a great fire. There were hiking trails everywhere which is great for those who can't sit still. There is also a beautiful beach for swimming. The campground also does canoe and kayak rentals! We rented a kayak for an hour and just floated around the lake for an hour. It was beautiful and a great way to relax. I also loved that you did not need to go to a main house to check in, the paperwork was waiting at the site for us. It was so easy and relaxing. We will definitely be back!

It was 1 mile each way (from the parking lot to near the base of the falls). The trail was relatively flat and shaded for parts of it (but not all). There were a few benches along the way to take breaks, and water at the beginning of the trail to fill up your water bottle. It costs $10/car to get into the state park but you can use that ticket to get into other state parks on the same day without paying again, which would be great to visit nearby Buttermilk Falls and other parks.

The highlight of the park - and its namesake - is Taughannock Falls, a 215-foot plunge waterfall. That's what we were there to see, but let me explain more about the park. The park crosses Taughannock Boulevard. On one side of the road, is the park of the park with lots of amenities: the marina, boat launches, a beach, a concession stand, bathrooms, a playground, and more. We were there on the morning of the Fourth of July, so lots of families were setting up for a fun day for the holiday: picnics, beach, boat day, etc. On the other side of Taughannock Boulevard is the waterfall and several trails. There is one parking lot by the trails, which was already full when arrived around 9am on Saturday, which was the Fourth of July, but we parked near the entrance on the other side of the park and walked over to the trail. There is signage requiring cars on Taughannock Boulevard to stop for pedestrians; it felt safe to cross. We took a little walk around the side of the park with the amenities, but we were there for the falls. We walked along the Gorge Trail - a .95 mile trail that is very flat. While not paved, it was a flat, wide dirt path, making it much more of a walk than a hike. Compared to other parks with falls in the area, it really doesn't feel like you're *in* a gorge, but you do walk along Taughannock Creek. But it's not quite as beautiful of a trail as some others in the area. But we were for the waterfall, which is incredible. It's worth a sweaty walk (it was a hot, hot day) to get to. We took a million pictures, watched the hawks flying over the falls, and took in the falls for as long as we could before heading back along the Gorge Trail. (Unlike other parks nearby, the Gorge Trail doesn't connect to the other trails, so you have to return on the same trail.) It might not be my favorite of the state parks we visited during our time in the Finger Lakes, but the waterfall is stunning and well worth a visit. It's also a great option for anyone who wants to visit a waterfall but isn't up for a more challenging hike, as the Gorge Trail is extremely flat and easy!

They rang a bell to signal or remind everyone (in case you are on camp time) that a new activity is starting. A favorite among the kids were the slush puppies in the camp store. My kids, ages 11 and 13 survived even though there was no cell coverage. Do not depend on the campground's WiFi connection, if you can call it a connection. Definitely, need to upgrade that amenity. Our group of 4 families all had buddy sites together, which was very nice. Our site was on an incline and needed extra blocks for leveling but was still a good sized site. Would consider coming back for a short weekend stay but would tell my family back at home that we will be off the grid.

Couldn't use regular service or hot spot because there was no signal. Suggest investing in a more robust internet service/connection. The kids had a great time with everything. Pool, bounce pillow, DJ both Saturday and Sunday evenings. Sites are standard. Wouldn't say tight or spacious- just regular. Did take a walk on the trails which I was able to see a deer and rabbit on the trails with me. Friendly staff.

Yes they may not be epic cascading falls with millions of gallons of water, but Watkins Glen is an epic place to visit. There is a bit of construction going on for the summer 26 season so do a little research for best places to park or what trails may be impacted. It does absolutely nothing to lower the charm of this park though. If you are in the area and bypass this you have truly missed one of the state's gems!
