Language barriers can be good for a few laughs.
Moments after taking a sidewalk-adjacent outdoor table at Carbonvino we ordered a beer, by name, and a wine ("red") without seeing a menu. Our waiter left and another waiter arrived, this time bearing a beer and wine list so we ordered again, this time with more specificity on the wine.
The first waiter soon returned bearing our original order. The second waiter came by shortly thereafter, saw the drinks, and did a little double-take. This semi-comedic sketch would be the amusing theme for my time at Carbonvino.
Finishing round one, a waiter (which one is anyone's guess) returned to re-up our orders. A second beer was ordered but I declined a second glass of wine. When the second beer arrived, a second glass of wine was delivered alongside it. What're you gonna do? I drank it.
Judging from a funny little shoulder shrug and smile from one waiter, we surmised that the second glass of wine was comped, something to keep us happy and at the table. When we finally requested the tab we were first surprised to see that we were charged for two glasses of wine (no problem, certainly; I drank it even if I hadn't ordered it). Then we just had to laugh. All four drinks, total, ran us about $16 US which put us both in an even better mood than the alcohol already had.
I departed joyously, proclaiming I'd be back. Instead, I wound up spending more money at other similar places on other days, never making my way back to the place I intended to return to.
Why am I telling you all this? Because I think, if you're a fan of beer and nice wine at the nicest of prices, I'd recommend you make a stop at Carbonvino. They serve food too, which I didn't sample, but I think their sweet spot is the most reasonable of prices for beer and wine. read more
