Just recently had a ppi done at this place for my first m car purchase and the service tech manager David went above and beyond with the help I got. The car had a few issues that seemed major and left me worried about the long term ownership of the vehicle but he done an overview and found some minor culprits that he had remedied right away without asking and without upcharge! The car drove like a dream afterwards! I inquired additionally for any work necessary for my vehicle in the future and he was more than knowledgeable with his recommendations and didn't use scare tactics to upsell any unnecessary work! I plan on doing a tune up at a later date because of the fair pricing and honesty. I have a Mercedes SL500R I had a leak from the ABC suspension system. I saw there ads claiming the to be the best Mercedes repair shop even train other shop mechanics on Mercedes autos. So I called and ask how much would the charge to diagnose the problem and give me an estimate to fix it. I was told the price would be $100 I made an appointment and showed up there at 8am opening time, no one was there so I waited in the car. 15 minutes later someone came and entered the building in an employee entrance 5minutes later the customer entrance was opened but David the manager wasn't there yet. I waited until he got there. I left the car there and was told I would be called later when finish with the estimate. At 4pm I called to find out what was happening and was told they could not find a leak I was surprised at that because I had oil all over my garage. David suggest he keep the car overnight to see if it leaked. Next morning I called and he said there was only a small leak and I should could simply add a little oil when needed so I took Uber to pick up my car. I took out my wallet to give him the $100 dollars he quoted and he said he is typing out the bill and presented a bill for $425.63 He ignore my protest and I put it on my Visa. When I got home I opened my hood and there was oil all over my engine due to the oil backing out of the ABC reservoir. I call David, he said to come back so that he could see it. He checked it with a stethoscope and said the pump was faulty. I was still upset about the overcharge so I called Visa and put in a dispute for the over charge. Since it was a week end I waited for the following Monday to call David to tell him I put a stop payment due to my Dispute. Before I could say much he said he was crediting my Visa for the overcharge. except foe 3oz of fluid he put in @ $20 an oz came to $60. The same Hydraulic fluid I buy at Ebay for $ 11.00 a Liter. CROOK! Unless you win the lotto I would advise you to stay away from this place. read more

Had my BMW carbahn tuned by Autoscope in Dallas TX. It added 110hp and what a difference it makes! Was fast before now the car is at another level. Very reasonable price for such a large gain in performance. Recommended! read more

If I could give a negative stars I would. The incompetence of this shop knows no bounds. The shop manager Chris MacNaughton is a liar and basically stole my money. Nothing was ever the shops fault, always an excuse. A one week job somehow turned into over a year and still not complete. I prepaid 15k for wheels, exhaust, turbos and a tune. I only received turbos and the exhaust. They never tuned it and never ordered the wheels. The wheels were the final straw. Chris said they were a dealer for BC Forged wheels. He ghosted me for three months. He never was. BC Forged wheels will never do business with them because they are liars. Neither should you. Stay away from this shop read more

I have an older 87 BMW 535i, most enthusiasts know my car well. I took my beloved car to a trusted mechanic for a valve adjustment. That being said, they were unable to do the valve adjustment correctly. They treated me like any other clueless woman and led me to think I had major engine problems to deal with instead of a simple maintenance job. Thankfully I found these guys a few days later. Mike in the office and Matt my new mechanic both know my car intimately. Even better, when I brought it to them very much concerned, they were happy to try and help me find the source of the problem without making me feel like another clueless woman with a car. Mike answered every single question I had thoughtfully and genuinely, never giving me attitude or being short for the multitude of questions I asked. Never once did he make me feel insecure for asking questions. Instead he answered with detailed explanations, in turn teaching me more about my car and the industry itself. Matt is a wonderful mechanic.. I don't have the words for how well my car purrs after coming back from him. My engine sounds 110% Better than when I brought it in. My car sounds and feels amazing. I did not need a whole new head, through his knowledge and expertise Matt was able to adjust what the first shop couldn't. And the best part is their fair pricing as well. For average pricing you get great specialty mechanics, excellent customer service, reliable service, and they can provide a loaner car while yours is being worked on. STOP HERE AND READ MY REVIEW!!! I meant to write about this shop sooner but, I have been having too much fun with my car after i had it repaired it by these gentlemen. I had been doing the normal going to shop to shop asking about prices and availability on parts and asking about labor and with each new shop, I grew more worried about the cost of repairs and more importantly who was doing the repairs. Finally after literally all day of searching for pricing, I ended up here at SD Auto Tech. I pulled up and Matt approached me looking at the car I drove in and said "Nice car" " I got one too!" he said. I began to tell him about my nightmare strut housing adventure. Matt told me not to worry I have come to the right place. As I looked behind him, music began to play in my head as if I was in a new Fast and Furious movie overlooking all these clean beautiful BMW's they already had in the shop. Looks like I caught them at there closing hour. I instantly felt welcomed like I had stumbled upon a heaven for Car people! Scott was the next to approach me in the office. Very calm very polite, without judgment, he asked me if he could help me. He caught me off guard as I was looking at there parts display in the front room. It was like walking into a candy store for some one like myself. I instantly felt comfortable and my anxiety levels were non existent. I told Scott about my the problem I was having with my car. And even though there were closing they still took the time to inspect the problem, get parts and install them on my vehicle. I was very impressed with everything i was experiencing. No pressure, lots of options, and the fact that they were willing to stay after hours just to a random person like me. Matt, who worked on my vehicle was also very polite, super knowledgable, and also very important to me was that he was able to answer all my questions and help me solve a few issues i have been having with fitment issues. Matt showed me his e28 and it is probably one of the cleanest M5's I have ever seen. An inspiration for when I purchase another e28. He did an amazing job getting me back on the road. Everyone seemed to look at the car I brought in like it was a familiar friend. Come to find out that, the person who sold us this beautiful E28 used to work for this establishment. Took my car to get rims and tires installed. Chris the General Manager was very helpful and gave me a great price. They did a full inspection of my BMW and found a broken hose to my brakes. I have an AMG C63-S that's been tuned and serviced from Carbahn. The shop is amazing, the staff and mechanics are rockstars. I originally came to Carbahn just for a tune, which kept my car feeling as smooth as stock while also bringing out the performance it's always had from underneath. Then when I had some mods done from another shop that didn't go well, Carbahn took me in at the drop of a dime and got my car sorted. The prices they charged weren't the cheapest, but I left with my car feeling confident again and haven't had any issues since. The best thing you pay for at Carbahn is Peace of Mind, and there's nothing more valuable than that. read more

Incompetent and shady. Incompetent because they blew off my reported concerns about an issue - something that turned out to be a very dangerous leak - and utlimately had to get it fixed by Stevens Creek BMW. Shady - for many reasons. They installed a faulty part (which happens), and my car had to be towed in for re-repair, and they would not pay for the tow. Later, they told me their policy is to pay for a tow in these situations... but still no reimbursement. But the kicker that makes me think of Dinan every morning when I start my car is this: normally, my BMW is factory set for an oil inspection warning at about 15,000 miles. Dinan changed mine to 3,000. No discussion - just sort of snuck that in there. Did they think I wouldn't notice? Were they hoping I would dutifully bring my car in every 3,000 miles so they can get more revenue from me? read more

I decided to call the shop with a few questions, expecting to get a pushy front-desk clerk with moderate knowledge in the field. Instead I was greeted by David who instantly demonstrated his knowledge and passion in the field. He knew everything about F8x M's and made me feel confident that I can trust them with my M4. David answered all of my questions and provided a lot of useful insight about my car and steered me in the right direction. I worship the ground these guys walk on! They just saved me almost 1k today. My BMW started making a weird noise....like something was loose and it was under extended warranty. I brought the car into BMW Mountain View (after waiting several days for an appointment) and, as usual, there is never a loaner available. That was a big come on when they sold me the extended warranty. BMW told me I needed 2 new shocks as the left one could not be bolted back because of the threads and it would cost me $1k. Luckily I had the where with all to get a second opinion at Dinan. They were able to bolt my rear left shock back without a problem in under one hour and just charged me for labor! Unbelievable! Avoid this place. Used to be dinan, but sold everything except service. Owner told me business was ruff. Last time I went there service writer tells me they have to see what the problem was and would have to charge the hourly rate for diagnoses, but not over an hour. Wow, looking at my car while the mechanic was looking at it, he was only near the car about 15 minutes. When an hour went by I asked the SW what's up with my car. How bout that, it took exactly one hour. Howbout that? Funny though, SW tells me the problem is common and the mech knew what the problem was when he lifted the trunk lid and the lights in the trunk flickered. (Guess they needed my money more than I did.) I have the distinct impression carbahn, dinan or whatever you call them, ripped me off. OK, how much to fix a simple wire???? $1,600.00. I will never return and suggest you find someplace else to get your car repaired. oh, and folks at carbahn, don't ask me to contact you as you asked from my google review. EDIT: I had a lengthy review on here with some bad experience I had with Dinan. To sum things up, I wanted my car SMG software coded, but just got my car options reset which wasted my time and money. I also had a very costly repair done which didn't go 100% well and required me to actually work on my car after the repair (My O2 were plugged back in to the wrong locations, the car ran but threw service codes because it thinks my intake air quality is from China). I chose to remove the lengthy version because I did not want the business to be punished, just for them to hear my concerns. What changed my mind was that Scott called me and tried to set things right by offering to compensate my time for the O2 sensors with discounted services. I have most of my maintenance done so I will not need any services for a while, but I still appreciate the gesture. This increases my confidence that they will honor mistakes by trying to set things right, I'm adding two extra stars. Scott was also concerned about my perception on how things were handled and thought my judgement was unfair. I will admit that the situation was complicated and I'm more willing to forgive any oversight than before, but I still wish I had the tear down estimate. read more

The time it took to check in and drop off my car was very short and I was on my way. I'm always really weary of going somewhere to get work done on my car with the fear of getting ripped off and just don't particularly like dealing with the dealership....but what can you do when your ride needs a check up? I had a check engine light come on in my 335, called up the dealership and they told me it'd be a week before they could have me come in. I wasn't ready to wait a week since I had no idea what was wrong with it. I went into Dinan and Sonny helped me out. He checked everything out for me, and the light was just because of my gas cap. He also changed out my wiper blades since it's been raining, and noticed that one of my brake lights were out. Now i'm back on the road, as good as new. I thought I'd end up paying an arm and a leg for repairs, but Sonny checked everything out and it was painless. He was super helpful, and explained why the light came on. It's great to know what's going on and not just get rushed out or taken advantage of with a ton of extra stuff you don't need. I'll definitely be back for anything else that I need done. if you need any work done, go and ask for Sonny. Like I said early, it's hard finding a place you can trust with good customer service in the automotive. I'm thinking I want to go back and get that Stage 1.....vroom vroom... read more

Fast, friendly service that really works with you. I called in to make an appointment and got the time that I wanted just a week later. This is great considering how long it can take to get a dealership appointment around here. Shuttle service to my office after dropping off my car and a pickup on the return leg, all working with my busy schedule. Everybody in this office knows their stuff. They diagnosed the cause of a squeak, informed me about upcoming service with no pressure, and even let me know about an issue with one of my turbos. A really good experience all around. But the kicker is this: they knew to ask whether my car was purchased new or CPO. As a CPO car, the issue with my turbo is still covered by the factory. The team at Dinan Campbell even called over to Stevens Creek to let them know to watch for my call and check the books for the best dates to get a loaner while the turbo gets fixed. Amazing. Thoughtful, expert service from folks who are passionate about the product and building on Dinan's reputation in the BMW community. I never thought to write SD Autotech a review despite the 7 years of going to them, but with Sean's arrival and a great group of technicians- the review needed to be written. You must be able to trust your car mechanic- not only so that they don't take your car for a ride and you for a spin, but because the quality of service and attention to details is important! I have seen managers come and go at this location and have always had a decent experience. But with the recent management and location change, I recommend this place to all BMW owners! I had a 1998 BMW 328i. I have been taking it to Dinan for about 5 years now. It is an old car, and although it only has 80,000 miles on it, things still break. I haven't had any problems with Dinan in the past, but about once a year, something on my car breaks and I go in for a repair that usually costs about $2,000. I was okay with paying for expensive repairs because I wanted to keep my car running for as long as possible, and I was under the impression that I was taking it to the best service center around. This last July, my air conditioning was not working so I took it in. $1,300 later, I was back on the road..for two days. When I started my car two days later, it violently shook and white smoke blew out the back. I called Dinan and they happily took it back in. After not hearing from them, I called a day later to see what was wrong. The front desk woman proceded to tell me (not even a mechanic) that I have serious repairs that will cost between $2,500-$9,000. I went in so an actual mechanic could show me what was wrong, and he told me that my car that was worth $5,000 the day before is now practically worthless. Dinan wanted to charge me an additional $145 for this "diagnosis." I told them I was not going to pay the $145 because that is simply ridiculous. They claim that they did not do anything wrong in the last repair that was 48 hours before my car broke down. Dinan proceeded to send me an incredibly nasty email and threatening to call the police for taking my car off of the lot. They did not seem to have a problem while they were WATCHING me TOW the car off of the lot (since it was not drivable). Here is part of the email the manager sent me: "This is not a simple fact of paying a bill, but it is also a prosecutable offense. Removing a vehicle from an auto repair facility without paying the bill is theft/larsony, and you can be arrested for this type of offense. It is the same as stealing. Please pay your bill of 145.00 by Friday so I do not have to call the police." As a returning and faithful customer, who has paid thousands to Dinan over the years, I thought I should have been treated with a little more courtesy. I won't be recommending their "services" to anyone. read more

i know i`m one of the only ones who didn`t give dinan service 4 or 5 stars, but hear me out: so i came here with a coupon that i got from valley fair offering a free oil change for first-time customers. that in itself was more than enough for me to try it out because usually oil changes for BMWs cost something like $60-80 ! plus, when i looked it up on yelp, i saw great reviews. and i`m sure they did a fine job of servicing the car, but what makes me give them such a low rating is that it took over two hours to do a simple oil change. an oil change by itself should NEVER take that long, especially when you`ve previously made an appointment and showed up on time. plus, there was only 1-2 other customers at the time and the guys themselves said it would take 30-45 minutes. when i got my car back, i did not receive any kind of apology or anything. i`m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and come here again, but most likely i`ll try some place new. read more

You will be ripped off! To add insult to injury, you'll be treated like a number, may or may not get your car (or even a return phone call) in a reasonable amount of time, and gouged with exhorbinant markups on parts and padded hours on technicians' time. Reputable BMW message boards should always be consulted as a sanity check against the work Dinan is recommending. Even if the service is warranted, careful research will generally find that the parts are marked-up 2x and Dinan's estimated billable time required is generally 3-times that of a DIY-er. Look, I have an M5 that is my most treasured inanimate thing in the world. I would not spare any expense to keep it running, but I draw the line at Dinan's unethical behavior. These guys feed off the fact you can afford a nice BMW and the fear of not making that investment last. Horrible! read more

I judge a Business by their communication and customer service quality. If they even have the best quality products or services its worthless to me if they don't put any effort on communicating with me for my question or concerns. I sent an Email to both corporate facilities (Campbell and Mountain view ) a week ago and i still have not heard anything from them. This gave me a bad impression of Dinan and i would rather give my business to a shop that appreciates my business and replies within a few hours or even a couple days. i have been to their campbell facility once and the person behind the counter was on the phone for 15 minutes and did not even acknowledge me so i just left. It is too bad since i am a big fan of Steve Dinan and he is one of the individuals that inspires me. Hope this helps Yelpers ! UPDATE: Dinan Managers contacted me shortly after i posted this review. As far as Emails i sent them, they explained the emails were filtered by their email program and was sent to Spam folder. They also apologized for my initial experience at Dinan in Campbell. I have been going to Dinan for the past 5 years. Initially, they were phenomenal, treating me with courtesy, and being very straightforward with me about issues and what truly needed to be fixed. In the last 8 months they have become a nightmare. I believe they may have changed ownership (uncertain) but several of the previous employees are gone. The last two times I have been in there in that time, I have been grossly disappointed. Both times the receptionist tried to sell me services when I walked in the door, without even reading my history or noting I had an offered service done recently. In both cases I was told I needed extensive repairs, the worst of which I had fixed BY THEM just 6 months prior. Some of the other issues noted were not able to be found by two other shops, and a comparison of costs with the dealer showed that Dinan is charging dealer service pricing, which is absurd. Further, both times I was never phoned to approve work done, and had to call them to confirm whether my car was ready, then rush over to get there before closing. Horrible customer service and a shady business presence. Too bad. They used to be great, but I will never return to them again. read more

The best place to bring your BMW in for repair. Had a dead battery in the morning, called 3 different BMW dealers, one didn't have the part, the other two just weren't helpful. Call A & E Performance, not only did they have the part, they took me in within the hour. I was very happy they got my battery installed in one hour. Very courteous, and friendly staff. This Campbell Dinan sucks! They wanted to charge me $150 to diagnose a problem. The Mt View Dinan only quoted me $70. If you want to take your car to Dinan, go the Mt. View one. Overall it's cheaper. Take it from me, I've been to all 3 locations. The best one is Morgan Hill I think they have new management as described by another yelper below. read more
