i will never take my car here again. I took my car there in the past and never had an issue but I got my car towed there on 1/29 to get the alternator fixed. I knew it was alternator because had my battery checked and it was good and battery light coming on and if you look it up to see why battery light coming on its the alternator. Well car x wanna tell me it's my battery cause they too lazy to fix the alternator. I went to junk yard got an alternator for 100 bucks and my boyfriend put it in and car is now back up and running. Car x is a waste of peoples time. They only wanna fix simple stuff or help people they know. DONT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE. THEY JUST NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN!! read more

When we arrived to the scheduled appointments the men inside were so nice and friendly. They had us in an out quicker than we expected. Really phenomenal service. I decided to try Car-X because of all the great Yelp reviews for this business. First appointment was for an oil change that turned into a tire purchase. I'm always hesitant to trust auto mechanics and those that service cars due to how many times in the past that I've been BS'd about needed repairs. Not so at this Car-X! Manager Bob talked to me about my bad tire and took me out to the bays to show me the tear in my tire. These tires had 60,000+ miles on them and I knew it was time. Bob talked me through the tire styles that would fit my Sonata and I decided to stay with the Hankook tire that came with the car when purchased. The price for everything was around $800. -- surprise! -- but Bob quickly calmed me down by suggesting I apply for a Car-X credit card to help spread out the payment. I was approved in minutes and soon drove off with my new tires and oil change. Bob has since been promoted and is no longer in this store but his replacement, whose name escapes me right now, is just as helpful and professional when I schedule my appointments and arrive for same. My car is serviced by the time promised. The waiting area is small but clean and offers free WiFi, television and snacks for purchase. The mechanics are helpful and respectful and provide good customer service. Sam is especially nice and helpful. I wish I knew the other guys' names but they too are helpful and thorough. I drive by this place every morning and never would have thought to go there if it wasn't for you Yelpers. My husband always goes to Sam's Club for our tires but I'm happy to support this business and not have to go across town to give my hard earned money to the Walton family. Lastly, when I purchased my tires from CarX I had already been to Sams and got a quote and appointment for new tires. Car-x matched the price and delivered a find product on the same day as service. Felt professional and reasonable. Both Joe the manager and Jeremy the technician were nice and sweet. They have shuttle services which is great because I work at the hospitals and various clinics around town. I needed a muffler replacement and they got it done pretty quickly. I brought my friend's car in for a tire replacement and even though they had thought they wouldn't get the tire in until the afternoon, they were able to get it done in the morning hours ahead of schedule. They even checked the air filters and such during the tire replacement and was able to let us know that the cabin air filter needed to be changed while the intake air filter didn't, which helps save us money because we had been planning on changing both later this month. They do let you bring your own parts though then you can't use their online coupons. Definitely will come again for service. read more

I got a front end alignment in January, and the vehicle was fine for about 2 months now. It's now out of alignment again. I'm not happy about this situation. Sure they solved the problem for about 2 months, but I didn't pay for a quick fix. I paid time and money for a one and done solution. read more

My car broke down while traveling through Springfield back to Chicago. The tow truck operator recommended Car X. I was hesitant at first, and being alone and far from home, I felt that any place would take advantage of me. But, the manager at Car X was very friendly and went out of his way to get the parts needed for the repair. And, the issues he found were exactly what a mechanic in St. Louis told me was wrong (though that mechanic told me my car was fine to drive back to Chicago). The guys at Car X stayed after hours to get my car back on the road that same evening. I hope that I won't have to stop in Springfield again for a car repair, but I would definitely recommend Car X to anyone in the area! read more

Joe is a great guy. The customer service at his establishment is second to none. I never feel like I'm being ripped off or taken advantage of (I get this feeling at most repair shops). I've had brakes done here on multiple cars and they've always done a wonderful job with the car and I've always paid a reasonable price for repairs. The service team is professional and treats your car with care. Trust me, I've watched them. You can feel confident they will accurately diagnose and repair your vehicle. They also have financing options if have need unexpected repairs and can't quite afford it. Very helpful I have used this option once and got 6 months no interest to pay off repairs. I ONLY GAVE THIS PLACE ONE STAR BECAUSE ZERO WAS NOT AN OPTION!! I'll have to agree when Chuck was in there this location was great. But unfortunately, he was NOT there during my last appointment and my service was TERRIBLE! I took my car in for a brake inspection and to have the front calipers replaced. (FYI... the rear calipers were done previously...AT THEIR LOCATION) The guy at the front counter was the worse! This experience was bad from the first conversation (when I scheduled the appointment) until I picked up my car. The front counter guy was NOT helpful at all and, in my opinion, they did absolutely nothing to my vehicle since they were not able to "duplicate the issue". The reason I strongly believe nothing was done to my car is because 1) I received no paperwork stating the brake inspection was done and 2) the guy called me when my vehicle was "ready" and stated they could not duplicate the issue, but at my last visit I was told my calipers were in pretty bad shape (front and rear)...which I already knew hence one of the reasons for my appointment. He was adamant the front ones were replaced at the last visit. I told him they were NOT it was the back...and at that point it was evident no brake inspection had even been completed because if it had been, they would have clearly seen the difference in the condition of the front and rear calipers. Hell, I was able to see the difference just by looking at them and I'm far from a mechanic! This was a complete WASTE OF MY TIME. This is NOT the true definition of quality work and I'm feeling like my safety and my family's safety was jeopardized. I won't be going back to this location until they clean house! I'm sure it won't matter anyway since they're NOT really doing any work. There's probably not even a record of my visit since again ... I didn't receive any paperwork showing the inspection was completed nor did I receive a price estimate for the calipers. By then, it didn't even matter to me...because I knew I wouldn't allow them to even change my windshield wipers let alone my brakes. to Car-X on Jefferson! Had a good experience here. Brought my 180k-mile clunker in first thing in the morning. Had a call by noon letting me know what they found, and what their recommendations were. Answered my questions very thoroughly and professionally. When I declined all their recommendations, they were totally fine with that and didn't try to convince me to spend more money. By 5 p.m., go a call that my car was done on a repair that normally takes a couple days. The price was good. I will return the next time my clunker craps. read more

I had my truck brought in for general engine work (belt replacement, oil change), brake work, and suspension repairs. It took this shop over a month to finish the job. I drove it twice and noticed a ticking in the engine. Pulled over, and found out that the shop had not put oil back in! My other vehicle was being fixed at the time at the shop, so the manager discounted the oil change from the other repair. My other car was getting a heater core, new upper radiator hose, and flush service. After they fixed my other car (that day, I was going to pull it from the shop because they screwed up the truck, but they already had it apart) I drove it twice and the upper radiator hose blew off. I noticed the shop had broken the radiator where the upper hose attached. I had the vehicle towed back to CarX, and the manager tried to charge me for a new radiator. This shop is jam-packed full of clowns. I wouldn't have them work on my bicycle. read more

fyi- the old carx was great. The shop owner sold the store back to corporate earlier this year. Warranties are no longer valid with the new ownership.
