What a wonderful experience! My family, four children and my wife and I, was in the middle of a 9+ hour drive when the horrific moment happened. The battery light went on...we all know it's not simply the battery. The alternator was dead and so was the battery. One dodge dealer on the way turned us away, their mechanic had walked out the door and there was no way to get him back...cell phones don't exist... But Seth and company hear at CarX stayed late got it done promptly and got us on the road as fast as possible! They would not allow this but the next service center had no issues with it. I did my break pad change this location and after that I heard sound like rustling metal sound, I told Derek the guy there is sound wired? he put some greasy things and said, gone by self but never after one year. Only place that did oil changes on this car for 3 years. Did an oil change June 13, car has ran like crap since. Brokendown multiple times since & actually sat for 45 days. I finally had a chance to look at it myself yesterday. First thing I notice is the air filter case isn't closed correctly. (Air filter needs vacuum, without it the engine chugs, shakes, shuts down) But then I check the oil...... Not a dam drop in it! Take it into them today. Tell them the sutuation. Leave the keys. I go to pick it up & Chad proceeds to tell me 1) that there's oil in it (um, only if you put it in today) 2) that it left a "puddle" of oil on the shop floor (impossible with none in it) 3) says when you have an oil leak..... Wait right there, you've never told me anything about an oil leak..... and ALL my paperwork can back that up read more

Amazing place. Would 100% come back. We mentioned we had to be somewhere by 4 and had 5 hours there. We called unexpectedly and they got us in quickly. Had gone for an oil change. When I got home I noticed on the sticker it said I was to return after 3000 miles and that conventional oil was used. I asked for the synthetic mix so I called to clarify, He acted annoyed that I questioned it, he said no you got the mix, so I said I thought that was every 5000 mi.then? He just said yeah 3-5...when I asked again why it said I got conventional on the sticker he just says you got the mix. Very short answers, lack of explanation. The staff was friendly and I did not have to wait long before I paid and was out the door with a fixed issue. I would return if I had other issues. This was a terrible experience. On Thursday, I made an appointment to have my tires rotated. On Friday, my husband called to make an appointment to have his tires rotated as well. On Saturday, we woke our 9-month-old up from his nap to be on time for our appointments. When we arrived, I said we had an appointment to have our tires rotated. He said it would take an hour for our appointments, as they were running behind... We went to Starbucks for an hour, which is just a couple of stores down. When we came back, the cashier, possibly manager, told us he was giving us one of our oil changes for free. Um...I told him neither of us asked for an oil change. In fact, my dad changes our oil, as he knows about everything there is to know about cars. He just changed our oil using high-quality oil. The cashier said they had no notes about what was to be done with our cars. Yet I told him when we arrived what to do. And if you don't know what to do, you don't just open a hood and start doing things. A surgeon doesn't cut a patient open without knowing what to do with them.. Regarding my tires, he told me they weren't worth rotating and that I needed new tires. In other words, I'm a woman and he wanted me to spend approximately $420 on four new tires. They didn't even look at my husband's tires, just changed his oil, which he didn't want done, but they had no idea what they were doing. My dad ended up rotating my tires, which I should have had him do in the first place, but he works 50 hours/week. He said two of my tires could be replaced, but two are in good shape, so he was able to rotate them, and my car does do much better, especially in the rain. In other words, I wasted a few hours of my day off. I woke my son up from a much-needed nap. Car-X employs some incompetent people. Never again. read more

Since the manager, Chad left, the service has gone downhill. Had 3 of my cars in for repairs, and they still have not repaired them. Having issues with one car's check engine light staying on and the gas gauge doesnt work. Made an appointment to get these 2 things fixed. Spent 2000.00 and the problems arent fixed. Carx told me there was no problem. Had my chevy truck in for electrical issue and they told me my battery was bad. I had already replaced the battery before i took it in. Truck still doesnt start. 3rd car had the wngine racing. Got it "repaired" at carx. Drove it across the street and it did the same thing again. Needless to say I will not take any of my vehicles there again. If you like wasting time and money, go to carx in altoona. read more

Please Read! You will save money! You must get a second quote before deciding on going with Car-X Altoona. I had a belt that started to fall apart so I took it to this location. They looked at it and quoted a new belt, tensioner pulley, and idler pulley. Total parts and labor was quoted at $950!! I thought that was high so I called another local mechanic down the street. Over the phone they quoted total of $350. I ended up taking the car down the street, they looked at it and said there was nothing wrong with the pulleys and said it just needed a new belt. Total bill $170 for just a new belt. I am absolutely appalled that Car-X was trying to rip me off by $800 extra dollars on work that isn't needed! I asked the Car-X lady on the phone of the pulleys could be tightened and she came up with a story how they were completely shot and need replaced. I have been a fairly loyal patron of Car-X. I will never go back! Thank you to the local shop down the street for treating me honest and fairly. The car is running great. This is a true story that happened just this afternoon. read more

We took our car in for an oil change early afternoon. This was the day before a holiday so the car needed to be done by closing or it would have had to sit for a day. I didn't receive a call by 5:30 so I decided to just to drive over and check. The car was almost complete so i waited in the lobby. Paid the bill and left. Pros: 1. Location was clean - worth one star 2. Got me in same day, since the dealer could not - worth the second star Negatives: 1. Replaced air filter without notice of cost and was told the air filter was in dire need of replacement 2. Actual dealer cost for same service/parts about 20% cheaper 4. Tried to sale me tires that were ok'd by the dealer service 3k miles earlier In conclusion, I mainly didn't like the lack of communication about the service and sales tactics. read more

While I cannot give a rating on the quality of work they do, because I was in for an estimate. The manager calls me into the garage area to show me what needs fixed. I thought it was too high priced so I ask to put the car down. As I'm waiting for my car, a mechanic walks by me smoking a cigarette. Flicks the cherry off into the floor drain and throws the butt into the garbage can, next to an oxygen & acetylene tanks. Which are VERY explosive. I said thank you to the manager and asked if he normally lets employees smoke in the building next to oxygen tanks... long pause... then shrugs his shoulders like "whatever". We get our oil changed here regularly, Chad and Zac are always very friendly and helpful. We also had new tires put on the pickup at Car-X with no issues, and a pretty good value. A couple months ago we needed new tires on the car and my husband found the set we wanted cheaper at a different location. Soon after getting those, we started getting a lot of road noise. Several people we asked attributed it to the wide tires on a Taurus that commonly create road noise and new tires that needed to be "worn in". As soon as I took it in for the latest oil change, Chad had it diagnosed as a bad wheel bearing in the front. Additionally, two of the new tires were on backwards. After getting a new bearing at Car-X the noise was nonexistent (I took it to the original seller to get the tires put back on appropriately). Had good prices on the Yokohama tires I was looking for. Got a same day appointment. This seems to always be a pretty busy place, so the time it took to get tires on was a little longer than normal. So, I go in with a hesitation problem that starts at around 45mph. I was thinking transmission. They thought $900 worth of engine tune-up stuff. When I went to pay, they alerted me to another problem. There is a clunking noise that comes from the back. They proposed all manner of rear end work. I suggested maybe the clunk came from the jug of window wash fluid I always have in my car for winter. Ya. So, $900 later, still hesitates starting at around 45mph. Still think it's the transmission. I had a flat tire and changed it myself. I looked for a nail or other marks and found none. I took the tire here and they said my tire was knifed. I didn't believe them because I drove 20+miles on it. Then they quoted me $330 for one tire. . . I left. I went to another tire place and they said my valve was leaking and the knife mark was after the fact because there was no interior damage to my tire. The new tire place rotated my tires, installed my spare tire (which was new) and got me a new spare at $176. . . . don't go here. They are not professional and they are over priced. read more

So disappointed in this place. I had originally gave a great review as they have what I thought was great customer service, but the truth is they will scam you! I had taken my van in to get the brakes redone. I spoke to Chad the manger, told him I was coming out to California and needed a dependable car for the drive. He told me I had to get my brakes, and rotors. I got all of it done. On the way out here the brakes started to squeak. When I called in they said that sometimes happens with new brakes, so I thought it was ok. Now I have had grinding and needless to say I am getting new brakes and rotors again today. It has been less then 3 months. I called in regards to the issues and was told they never replaced the brakes. Well what the hell did I just pay $600 for? After speaking with many mechanics out here they have all confirmed you would not replace just the rotors without replacing the brakes. I would never take my service here ever again! read more

I took my car here for an oil change. The following day I had a puddle of oil under my car. Took it back, they said the oil pan gasket probably needed replaced. My car never leaked oil prior to this, but I did not want my driveway stained any further, so I paid $257 to have it done. The next day, I had a puddle of oil in my driveway. Took it back, they have had it now for 2 days. I am not sure how this will resolve, but I will never go back here again. read more

I scheduled an appoinment for an oil change and tire rotation a week in advance. I got to the place 20 minutes ahead of time. There was only two Service Techs working and this was a SATURDAY. Well, let me correct one thing......only ONE of them was working. The other one stood around and watched. Maybe the one watching wasn't allowed to work on anything directly concerned with an Engine because perhaps he was the one that didn't put a new Oil Filter on my Son in Laws brand new Truck when he took it in there for an oil change (?). Just a guess. Anywho, I waited patiently for one of them, or one of the two "Managers," to run my Truck in to the basically empty shop and after 30 minutes of watching only one of the four people "working" in the place while the rest stood around jabbering with their hands in their pockets, I walked out. You couldn't pay me to ever go back to ANY Carx, especially this worthless place. I only went there because my Son in Law, the one who's brand new truck they didn't put an Oil Filter on, gave me a Free Oil Change Card that they gave him. I also need to mention that after my Son in Law got his Truck back to this wonderful establishment, after having to wait on the Interstate for a Tow Truck because his Truck obviously ran out of Oil, they promised him they would detail his Engine. After all, it was covered with oil. Well guess what......they did NOT detail his Engine, so he had to again waste his time waiting for them to do the right thing, which they should have done in the first place. Who do you know that changes Engine Oil and DOES NOT check for Oil leaks when done anyway ? Anyone ? I sure don't. I personally love Valvoline instant Oil change locations. That is where I normally go, and that is where I went after I left this Carx dump. I drove right into Valvoline and they changed my Oil and rotated my Tires all in about 30 minutes, less than the time I wasted at Carx. read more

I had left my vehicle at the location to be inspected the following morning. Going into it I knew I needed a new battery and front brakes but wanted it fully inspected. I usually handle that kind of stuff myself but with the cold and no time on my hands I figured I would drop it off to be done. I received a call from the manager letting me know there were numerous things needing done amounting to $1700 in charges. I was a little taken back by that so I just told the gentleman to do what's needed right now which is battery and brakes. He told me he would take care of me and apply all the coupons I had gotten off the internet. Upon hanging up I called a family friend who told me he could do the brakes for a lot less and just charge me parts, so I got off the phone and called Car X right back and said to hold up and just do the battery. The manager said they had already had all the brakes and rotors off getting ready to put the new ones on so he would have to charge me full labor at around $250. Keep in mind it was less than 30 minutes after I gave him permission to do so. This took place around 12-1230ish. So in turn I said okay and went forth with letting them do the brakes so I wouldn't have to pay labor for no reason, he reassured me he would take care of me. I go to the Car X around 530-6 pm to pick it up and it still isn't done, if you can take all the brakes and rotors off in 20 minutes but not get them on for 5 hours? I just wanted to pay and have my coupons applied and get out of there bc I don't like confrontation. I showed the manager the 4 coupons which on none of them does it say you cant combine with others. He stated "oh we can only use one per transaction" I was like that's weird you told me on the phone you'd apply them and take care of me. My total bill was $990 for brakes/rotors for the whole car, oil change, and a battery with only one coupon applied. Very unsatisfied. read more

I took my Chevy Equinox in yesterday with a coupon from their website for 39.99 for a wiper change, tire rotation and oil change. I was called an hour later to ask if I have ever changed my oil by the gal at the front desk and then when I said yes and the sticker is in in the left hand side of the widow I was told apparently the last place used the wrong oil. I need to have fully synthetic in my car not the 5w30 that Walmart used last time. Was also told they could not do the wipers because my car needs curved ones. Was then told my oil change would be 66. so I said just use the 5w30 and do oil change and tire rotation was told that would be 56. for both of those. I was confused because I wanted coupon price minus the wipers she then preceded to ask me if I wanted her to work with me today? Unbelievable. Told her they could do oil change and tire rotation for the 39.99 or I could take it across the street to Walmart. Got a call an hour later and told car was done. Get there she told me how much and no explanation of what was done included I left and went across street abd looked at work order and for tire rotate Yes was circled and then crossed out and No was circled. So I called to talk to manager Chad and he told me to come back over. He brought out a tool and measured tread and assured me they did the rotation he also had them bring out the sticker that should have been placed in left of window for the rotation. Next to the oil one that was put in when service was done. He then gave me my next oil change for free and a 50. Gift card. However I don't believe the tires were rotated and am sure I will not be going back so they will be given to some men I know that will NOT be taken advantage of.
