Contract Breach, Pressure Tactics, and No Refund -- Avoid This Dealership…read more I ordered a 2025 Toyota Crown Signia from this dealership on January 18, 2025, with a $1,000 deposit. At the time of booking, I was told the car would arrive in about 2 months. However, the vehicle did not arrive until May 31 -- a delay of over 130 days, far exceeding both their verbal estimate and the 3-month delivery limit clearly stated in the contract. Per the contract, if the dealer is unable to deliver the vehicle within 3 months, I had the right to cancel and receive a refund of my deposit. I began requesting cancellation around mid-April, but instead of honoring my legal right, the Dealer Principal, Paul Shaw, emailed me on June 5 with pressure tactics -- stating I had only 7 days to accept delivery or face potential liability for their "losses." This was especially frustrating because they knew I urgently needed a car and then tried to push me into accepting a Lexus without the complimentary packages that were included in the Crown Signia deal. It was a clear attempt to use my situation against me rather than resolve things fairly. To make matters worse, they have still not refunded my $1,000 deposit, even though the delay and cancellation were entirely due to their failure to deliver on time. This dealership broke their contract, used manipulative tactics, and withheld my money. On January 11, 2025, I test-drove, and on January 15, I purchased a "Certified" Mazda3 GS from Ken Shaw Toyota (2336 St Clair Ave W, Toronto, ON M6N 1K8). The vehicle was delivered with a Safety Standards Certificate (SSC). The salesperson, Manpreet Kaur, reassured me personally that the vehicle was fully certified and safe. I trusted that expertise -- as a newcomer female unfamiliar with the mechanics -- only to discover later that the car was, in fact, sold 'as-is' and unfit with undisclosed mechanical defects. Within weeks, multiple dangerous issues surfaced. An independent inspection (requested by the MTO) confirmed the vehicle was not roadworthy and could not receive a valid SSC. Despite this, the vehicle had been advertised and sold as certified. I attempted to resolve this through all possible agencies OMVIC, MTO, Consumer Protection Ontario, my MPP's office, the Ontario Ombudsman, and legal aid. Despite acting in good faith and even requesting cancellation within 30 days, the dealership used delay tactics, threats, and blame-shifting -- never once offering a safe or legal return option. At one point, they falsely claimed I refused to return the car -- yet never provided a safe or lawful solution. Driving a dangerous, uncertified car was not an option, especially given the findings of the independent garage and the MTO's own request for inspection. Even after all of this, the dealership pressured my bank to reverse a refund request based on proof of misrepresentation. Their lawyer has since sent repeated emails that deflect responsibility and attempt to intimidate me, despite my clear efforts to resolve this through proper channels. I was clear from the start that I was a female newcomer, a first-time buyer, and not a mechanic. I relied entirely on their certification and integrity. Today, I am left unemployed, covering the storage cost of a dangerous car, while they operate without consequences and continue their business as if nothing happened. I am now preparing legal action to seek a full refund and compensation for the damage caused. This experience has been emotionally and financially devastating with no humanity or fairness. I trusted this dealership and was met with unfair treatment and discriminatory disregard for my safety and rights. OMVIC, Consumer Protection Ontario, and other agencies must take action against dealerships that abuse power and mislead vulnerable buyers -- especially newcomers and women. Buyers! Had the front/rear rotors & pads done on my 2009 Odyssey back in July 2022 for approx $700. Ivan…read moresaid he used Akebono coated parts which are suppose to be a premium product that I've used in my other vehicle with excellent results. The following spring, with only 10k km on these rotors/pads, I started to notice brake performance decline with it not really biting and needing to apply a lot more pedal pressure to stop properly. Brought it back for Ivan to inspect. He said rotors had a lot of rust, however, they were all suppose to be coated which greatly increases the time for rust to form. So, for rust form so quickly and so severe to affect performance in just 8 months and with only 10K Km since install....that just doesn't add up and Ivan wasn't able or willing to offer anything (possible defective warranty etc) other than to resurface them for an extra $100-200. That really didn't make any difference. So, I ended up going back to my regular guru who replaced all the pads with Power Stop shortly after. Fixed it and it was 100% better. Not sure if the issue was with the parts, the installer or a bit of both. Things just didn't make much sense to me and Ivan wasn't really taking any initiative or making any effort help me other than charging extra to hopefully remedy my issues. Lesson learned...Will keep to my guru from now on.

I called Midas and asked what filter they had installed and their records showed Purolator. I wanted more than a refund this is ridiculous, and possibly fraudulent. If it was a mistake then the fact that they overbook so much that this can happen is ridiculous. I have and sent them the pictures clearly showing this is not a new filter, but I got a refund on services not provided.

She finally conceded and I was given a time to come. When I arrived I couldn't even get on the lot it was so packed, even though they told me to come at that time. While I was parked on the side of Danforth with my hazards on, waiting, the same lady came out to talk to me, so I said "I'd rather not argue with you" as I had no interest in going over it again. She then walked back to the lot and audibly called me an asshole to the manager, who was moving cars. When I confronted him about it he said he'd "talk to her". I asked for an apology and was told "I can't make another adult apologize". That goes for employees too I guess. He said he would call me back about the inspection and didn't. Wow is all I can say. I took my car to John for an estimate to repair a door dent/scratch caused by another driver opening their door into mine. John tried to get me to scam the other driver and inflated the estimate with "additional costs" to cover a vehicle rental, which I never asked for. He claimed to be doing me a favor, but in hindsight I should have known that if he so nonchalantly tried to get me, a stranger, to scam someone else, it's likely he would do the same to me. He said if we didn't want to collect the "additional costs" that was up to us, and we would only pay the remaining costs on the estimate. I decided not to collect these "additional costs" for a vehicle rental, then when I went to drop off my car John demanded more money than what was on the estimate, giving me a "cash" price that was more than the original legitimate, tax-included price, or if I wanted a receipt he said I would have to pay an additional 16% even on top of that. He tried to get me to sign a blank work order, which I luckily did not, as I was unaware at that time of the troubles that can get you into.. I spoke with John the next day and he said a sprinkler went off in his shop and our repair job would take a little longer. He sent me pictures to corroborate this. When I went to pick up my car, the job was done horribly and John and his friend were watching me inspect it through the window. They had guilt and anger all over their faces and it was obvious they knew the job was done poorly but were hoping I wouldn't notice. I confronted John and pointed out that there was paint chipping in multiple places, a water drop pattern in the paint/clear coat all over the door (would not rub off, it was in the paint!), and brush marks etched into the door (again, it was in the paint/clear coat itself!). He became extremely hostile and was aggressively shouting and swearing at me, calling my car a piece of shit and saying I am an idiot. He threatened to "bang my car" If I didn't pay him immediately. After much back and forth and me calling the police, he agreed to repair the damages properly this time and said it would be done in two hours. After a few hours he calls to say the repair is complete. When we get there, low and behold there is still paint chipping. More arguing, name calling, and hostility from John. In the end we pay for his "repair work", since this is the only way to actually get your car back, and he again says he will make the car "better than new" if we aren't happy in 10 days. As we are pulling out we realize the lock on the door he was painting is now broken. The dealership (definitely not going back to John!) says the door lock actuator needs to be replaced. Summary: 1. Acted like a scammer from the beginning. Always exaggerating and making unrealistic promises and guarantees 2. Goes back on even the simple guarantees, his word means nothing. He even lied about his mother dying on the day of one of our encounters, and numerous other ridiculous things. 3. Knowingly did a poor job (the door looked worse after his first repair attempt than before we even brought it in..) and tried to intimidate me into accepting it. 4. Became extremely hostile and aggressive, shouting and swearing, when I refused to accept his poor work. 5. He even somehow managed to cause mechanical damage to my car, whether done purposefully or due to his lack of skills, I am not sure.

We were lucky enough to have Tariq as our Sales expert. He was the perfect balance of laid-back and efficient. I already knew the car quite well, so it was right down to business with the sale. Tariq could tell that we did not want to get all bogged down with over-sell. He got the ball rolling quickly and in less than a 90mins or so, we got matched up to the exact model and colour we wished to buy. He did not force any extra things upon us. However, he did make the sale sweeter with some bonuses like matts! I did not expect this from what I hear from other buyers these days. We seemed to click, he is an asset to Kia and I hope this review gets read by any management personnel. As women purchasers of cars, my partner and myself have often been brushed-off as not having enough knowledge re: cars. Absurd, but true. Tariq showed us great respect which only leaves me with so much respect for him as well. Selling anything these days cannot be easy as we are often all Googled-up with partial information on things. Truly, this was one of the most fun experiences buying a car in my life, and I have gone through this a few times. In the fall of 2022 they said they had an 'amazing deal' where for only $500 we could trade in our 2022 for a new 2023. By the time we got everything sorted out, it was a few months later and that $500 turned into $3000. This isn't why I'm giving a low review though, I could have always walked away. Getting a hold of anyone in this dealership after they sell you a car is impossible. I know the front desk lady better then our salesperson because she is the only one who responds. They gave us the wrong key for our car and we had to go back and return it. I needed to know if the tires we got from the car were insured because we blew a tire in Jackson's point, they wouldn't give us the sales reps phone number, we emailed him, it's been a week later and still no response. It's a good thing we had friends nearby or we'd still be stranded there. Kia's are nice cars and the one we got was good, hence the two start review, but once they get your money, expect the customer service to go right out the window. They are already on to the next sale.
