Went to Car Audio Engineers to replace the mediocre stock audio system in my Kia Stinger. Jonathan had me listen to a few different speakers and subs in their clean well-organized showroom and we came up with a plan - replace the front and rear door speakers, add an amp with DSP, and put a sub in the trunk. Right out of the gate the system sounded awesome. After breaking it in for a few months I took it back in, and Jonathan tweaked the sound a little to match my preferences. I wanted to upgrade my car & get a new head unit + a backup camera installed in my 2008 Toyota Camry. I did a good amount of research to find a reliable place that was going to do the job and do it well. After reading the reviews for this place (it took a couple months to finally decide) I made an appointment and dropped my car off. He genuinely cares about the customer and answered allllll the questions I had and made sure to sit down and show me how everything works. Bought a Jeep Gladiator and the stock audio is horrible in it. Full volume was weak and no bass whatsoever. I was recommended by a friend to check out CAE and i don't regret it one second. I went to the shop and talked to Jonathan and he was great to work with and very knowledgeable about all the car audio stuff. He gave me his recommendations on audio and the companies he likes to use and i never heard about the brands, but after hearing the speakers i am glad i went with them! High end audio equipment with the best sound quality! Go with his recommendations he definitely knows his car audio! We went with Blam Audio and swapped out all the speakers. Used Helix Amp and DSP. I bought my own JL audio stealth box made for the gladiators (it was the last one in stock)(on backorder everywhere). Had I nit found that stealth box i would have had a custom one made by Jonathan. I had seen some of the other vehicles he had in the shop and the custom boxes looked great! Also swapped out the small 7in screen to a 10in stinger unit. I wanted to be able to adjust the bass on the fly so a knob control was also installed under steering wheel. All in all if you want your audio done right and i mean installed proper using quality parts and quality install, then CAE is where you want to take it! I have a somewhat complicated audio setup in my car and always have to make sure the audio place I choose knows what they're doing. If not, I could lose sound quality and that's not acceptable. Jonathan knew exactly what I was talking about instantly and scheduled me for installation of a new stereo. Where I live, an alarm is useless because I'll never hear it from my apartment. It would just be an annoyance. So, after being incredibly patient and answering every single one of my questions, Jonathan suggested DroneMobile to alert me if my car is hit, moved, glass shattered, tilted, etc., and also shows me the location of my car and locks/unlocks my doors from the app. It also has a remote start and alarm functions should i need that later. You can also have it alert you if the vehicle is being driven over a set speed, which will come in handy when my teen starts driving. He even uses the same device in his own vehicle! I couldn't be happier. They do get busy so I encourage you to be patient with their scheduling, but it's definitely worth the wait. One last thing--when all was said and done and Jonathan had made sure I knew how everything worked, he ended up charging me LESS. I learned about Car Audio Engineers while having our car wrapped by Sacramento's leading XPEL installer. We had Jon install our dual channel dash cam and some footwell lights into our new 2021 Kia Telluride and 2021 Kia K5. This was supposed to be a simple install and quoted us 2.5 hours for each car. TLDR: Jon knows his electronics and how to get to all parts of a cars electronics. He's able to troubleshoot electronics and is an expert with his scope meter. His paid for techicnal resources for car schematics, wire harnesses, etc, didn't even have appropriate notes for Kia's odd electronics. The short version: He took great care of our Telluride and K5 and was careful around our new cars. Jon knows his stuff. He showed us some work on another customers car where he was custom fabricating parts for older cars and retrofitting them with better audio systems. Among his other tools, he has a plastic laser cutter and a 3D printer. Jon had the blackvue dashcams (front and rear) and footwell lights installed in no time for both cars. The blackvue knows when the car is on or off and acts accordingly. I wanted to use an Arduino system I built to control the footwell lights (and other stuff) and needed 2 inputs to trigger the footwell lights: when the headlights are on or when the dome lights are on. My arduino would turn on the footwell lights if either of those 2 were on. Jon had no problem providing these inputs, along with if the ignition was on. However, Kia has some complex wiring for the dome light trigger for the footwell lights. It turns out there's actually 2 wires that control when the dome lights are on, and each dome light has a computer that decodes the signal. In the end, it took about 12 hours over a couple days to trace all this out. He still only charged us 2.5 hrs per the quote, however, we insisted he charge us a little more. Long version: The Kia uses a 0 volt trigger to tell the dome lights on, and goes to around 11 volts for the Telluride or 3.52 volts for the K5 to tell the dome lights to turn off. No problem, I can handle this in software and simply reverse the logic. That works great if you close the door, the dome lights turn off after a bit of time. Then, you lock the door, the, the dome lights stay off, but the new footwell lights kept turning on. After pulling a couple of dome lights and using his scope meter, each dome light actually has 3 wires: 1) trigger wire 2) accessory power wire 3) ground/neg wire Each dome light is responsible for decoding this to determine when the light should actually be on. It turns out, when you lock either Kia, the car raises the trigger voltage but turns off the accessory wire. This keeps the dome light off but my Arduino kept seeing a high voltage for the trigger. In the end, Jon had to run another wire to my arduino so I can know if the accessory power was enabled. Everything works great. I would not hesitate one second to have Car Audio Engineers work on our new cars again and will recommend them to all our friends. read more

Jonathon runs a tight shop with skilled, certified technicians and the equipment necessary to handle the most complicated and challenging projects. I had a simple speaker upgrade but he and his techs made sure there wasn't a trace of their work. Though my new car cost over $50K, it has the worst factory sound system I've ever heard in a modern vehicle. The new speakers really help get the most out the flaccid amplifier. Jonathon took the extra step of fabricating a custom bracket for the tweeters on a 3-D printer. Although the sound isn't as good as the premium system in my previous car, it's still a remarkable upgrade and I am very happy. I ran a SPL test and I can get 80db loudness now without any clipping from the amp. The car's interior noise floor is about 70 and that 10db headroom is all I need. read more

I bought a front/rear dashcam but couldn't hardwire it myself so reached out to different businesses to get it done. Jonathan provided me with the lowest quote and he was also less than 10 min away from me! Once I was ready to schedule a time, he got me in the same day. When I got there, I did have a bit of trouble figuring out which suite was theirs but gave them a call and Jonathan came out to direct me. He explained to me how the brand I had bought (Thinkware) was a pretty good brand due to their software. This was good to hear as I didn't know much about dashcams when I bought one and was going based off reviews. Dropped off my car at 10:38am, he said it should be done around 12:30pm and I got a text at 12:11pm saying it was ready. He let me know they had already tried it out to make sure everything was working well AND told me there's a lifetime warranty. Other places I've talked to only stated a 1 year warranty. Jon and his team were great to work with. He was referred by a friend and I brought in my 64' Mercury to get his ideas. I wanted to keep the stock look and the speakers somewhat hidden. He was creative in his approach and redesigned the deck lid and kick panels with 2 10's and 4 6-inch speakers. I went with the bluetooth connection and he installed a custom cup holder with the volume/bass control knob hidden. The interior still looks original, but with great sound. I recently brought the car back to add 2 more custom speakers in the original center speaker space. I will eventually bring it back to get my trunk interior finished. John at CarAudio Engineers and his crew does amazing work. I have a 22 Ram PowerWagon and wanted my dream system installed in it. I have kids so I couldn't lose interior space though. They were able to install 3 amps, a DSP, an Epicenter and 2 JL 10's without sacrificing a centimeter of interior space. System sounds fantastic and clean too. He managed to get 2 10" subs under the rear seat to sound better than 2 15"s in a huge box that I had years ago. John is a great guy to work with, when I needed something tweaked or adjusted he says just come on down and he fix's what I need done.
