Signature sandwiches the…read moreMine Burger and the Miner's Melt offer unique toppings that actually make this place a intriguing destination in Nelsonville's public square. The salami that comes on the Mine Burger wasn't good for my arteries, but it was great for my tastebuds. The Miner's Melt blended a lot of goodness between its sourdough slices and was worth the get as well. Beyond that, the tavern posts its rotating daily specials on Facebook with items that would surprise you given the rest of the menu. Think: Chicken Alfredo, Jambalaya and Beef Stroganoff. The Mine Tavern probably isn't too bad for a cheap beer as well.

I sought this place out specifically because of an online review I found that made this out to be…read morethe absolute worst bar in town. Because part of me enjoys seeing a bar that's really that bad, but mostly because 9 times out of 10 the bar turns out to actually be perfectly fine and the reviewer is in fact one of those uptight snobbish types who wants everything clean, pristine, and high-dollar. That's the way it turned out to be with Tony's... there's nothing wrong with this place at all. The front part of Tony's very much resembles a 1950s style diner, down to the booths, the bar stools, and the photos on the walls. The back room has pool tables and is occasionally used for bands. The selection of beer on tap, while limited, is more varied than most dive bars. There's an oddly placed mirror in the men's room that, while using the urinal, I noticed gives you a view out into the seating area. Which means people in that spot in the seating area also have a view of you. Hopefully this is accidental and not by design. :). Be careful with parking, you WILL get towed if you park in the lot across the street. I had to parallel park in a residential area a couple of blocks to the east.

Depending on the night of the week is what potential fun you could have from Karaoke to Open Mic night. There are bands here regularly and the drink prices are more than fair, but the selection is a bit lacking. The owner and a few bartenders are very friendly and take care of their patrons well. If your not careful you'll pass it by as the signage is not real easy to see driving by.
