The piercer was very friendly but unfortunately got a real crappy piercing, I went with my cousin about 2 years ago and we both got the same piercings. Both of us had issues with our piercings they never healed and grew bumps on the site of the piercings. I had to go to another piercer to replace the jewelry for the only salvageable piercing I got from here and had my other two piercings taken out completely and have to let them close. They're aftercare instructions are also not great do not buy bactine like they tell you to use neilmed piercing aftercare or anything that only has salt and water in the ingredients. read more

OK, I wanted to start this off by saying I don't really do reviews on here. I'm not an active yelper lol but if something does stand out good or bad I do have to say something. I've been coming to captive for piercings a few times now I've even recommended their piercer, Sarah, to a decent amount of friends and family. it was my friend's birthday and I was going to pay for her eyebrow piercing that she's been wanting forever and I took her to captive. We walk in and I ask the front desk lady about the piercing and she informed me that their piercer is actually out of town. We were a little bummed but it happens. I was just pretty determined to get this piercing done so I asked her if she had any piercers locally that she recommended since their piercer wasn't in town. Then the owner, Sab, interrupted our conversation and he told us that we could simply google it. I was taken back a little because I didn't expect such a rude tone from someone that wasn't even part of the conversation. I looked him in the eyes, and I told him it was just a question. He proceeded to say "it's not like we're all friends or something". I just found the aggression weird for no real reason and he could've simply just said no. He has problems around the community I'm guessing? The front desk girl noticed his weird response as well because she was trying to save the conversation by recommending a local shop that I could tell the owner did not care too much for. It kind of sucks that I have to give this review not even for his work but bc his crap personality. My significant other and myself went to Captive Hearts Tattoo to get some work done on our vacation in Santa Maria. Right as we walked in the door to make our appointments we were greeted with very helpful and kind people. Even though both the husband and wife, Sabin and Joy, were busy they took the time to talk to us and brainstorm some ideas before heading back to their work. My boyfriend got his shin-tattoo done by Sabin, and I got a cover-up of an old tattoo on my ribs, as well as a touch-up and an add-on to a tattoo I already have on my arm. Joy is the best tattoo-artist I could ever ask for, and I would give her endless appraise if I could, solely based on the fact that I hyperventilated and cried like a baby during the whole tattoo. She's super gentle and has a very soothing voice, plus she tries to talk to you and guide you through the pain. I recommend her to everyone and anyone, she is seriously the best! And also talented as hell, my new piece is definitely the most beautiful one I have so far. They are very clean and takes their business super serious, which I as a customer appreciate endlessly! wanted to get a piercing and i was well aware of the risks (oral piercing), i took it out after about three weeks because the bar was really long and was starting to wear down my gums. come to take it out and i see that it's externally threaded jewelry (which is a big no no, if you go to any other piercer they will give you internally threaded or thread less) it makes me saddened because the piercer is so knowledgeable, yet chooses to pierce people with low quality jewelry. i HATE writing negative reviews but this needs to be said! i hope this causes some sort of change in their piercing process. read more

For my first Tatoo I trusted Captive Hearts because of Joy and Sabin's experience, shop cleanliness, and honesty. They are very personal. Sabin did my Wonder Woman crown with black and grey. He was very personable, straightforward, and very talented. I felt comfortable asking questions and sharing ideas before and during the session. My total appointment was 2 hours but only an hour under the ink gun. Captive Hearts is very clean- even the bathroom is wiped down! I watched the assistant wipe down the chair, ink gun, and soap dispensers. I was able to see the drawn design for my Tatoo, the outline on my back, and relax during the process (it stung but wasn't too painful). WOW! Seriously wow! Ok so I spontaneously dropped in 6 weeks ago to get my nose and ear lobs pierced. First up that was a great experience and all my piercings look so beautiful. I had an awful experience and I wanted to let the owners know about it and they ACTUALLY did something about it. The original tattoo is now covered over and they took care of me. Three weeks ago I got the tattoo that I've been wanting for quite a while now and I love it. Sabin did it at Captive Hearts in Santa Maria and it's awesome. Great conversation, amazing art, and a fastidiously clean studio. Like you, if you're reading this, I turned to Yelp to help me find the artist for me. I saw a review from someone who claimed to be treated poorly on the phone but that was it. Everything else pointed to great experiences at Captive Hearts and that's what I found when I went there. After having spent about an hour in the chair and witnessing their interaction with clients on the phone and in the studio, it's hard for me to imagine that anyone could have had that experience. In fact, I mentioned it to Sabin and he said that it was a former employee who was rude on the phone and he got fired for it. C'mon ppl, everyone is entitled to a bad day! If you want a great day, and some amazing ink, get your next Tatt at Captive Hearts. You will not be disappointing! I had the best experience at upper room today! I chose the studio after a great recommendation from a friend. The studio is bright and clean upon entering. The whole staff is friendly, genuine, and professional. As Joy was setting up for my tattoo, her husband Sabin was working with another client to make sure the draw up of her tattoo was the correct size and proportion for her body and the current tattoos she already has.
