I was in Pismo/Grover Beach on vacation. Pismo is a special place for my family, and I wanted to get a handholding tattoo with my little boy there. I looked up local tattoo shops and was impressed by other reviews for Deep Blue. The shop is clean and organized and the staff were friendly and helpful. I was a walk-in, and after a phone call to find an available artist, Clifton Cross came in from home to accommodate me, which was super cool. He was friendly and professional, heard my ideas and reviewed my inspo pics, and offered professional feedback, which I appreciated. Everyone in the shop was chill and down-to-earth. I was in and out in about 2 hours, and the final result was beautiful. I could not be happier with my new tattoo. Clifton did a great job. We visit the area regularly and I would definitely return here and book an appointment with Clifton in the future. Deane is my regular piercer! He is very easy going/ friendly and all around a chill person. I have gotten nearly all my piercings here, recently angel fangs and gauging my septum. I went in earlier in the year to get my lobes pierced and the piercer could not have pierced it worse. It has been 4 months, I cleaned it everyday, and it still wouldn't heal (I had a huge irritation bump on both my ears). I went to another known piercer in the area I actually live in, and they told me the piercer pierced my ears so bad that it goes through 3x more tissue than it should've (the piercing was completely crooked). I had to take them out, and even though its been over a month since I took mine out, I still have bumps on the back of my ear, and they still hurt when I touch them. DO NOT GET PIERCED HERE! Waste of my $70. read more

This review is mostly for my experience with the piercer: Deane did a great job with my 2nd lobe piercings when I went in mid-April. He then, a few days later, was running a deal for $20 piercing if you do 3 or more and it was worth it. He's clean, fast, calm and communicative. I ended up with 5 new piercings in 2 days. They have all healed well and I've had no problems at all. As far as the shop vibe; it's among the better groups I've seen in the SLO area. I liked my experiences at Tiger Rose (in Pismo, now closed) and Keith Duggan's Ink Dynasty but I'd rather go to Deep Blue. Everyone was nice and the shop was ~busy~ both times I went in. read more

Got my lip, second lobes, nostril and septum done here by Deane! He's incredible at what he does and the only person I'll go to for any sort of piercing. He knows what he's talking about, knows proper placement and anatomy, and he does a damn good job. I felt hardly any pain with any of these piercings, I was incredibly impressed. I have been working on a full back piece in memory of my Grammies since mid 2008 with Grey, and couldn't be happier. I spent a lot of time researching artists work and meeting them from all around the area, I was prepared to travel a little if I had to. After all of my research I decided Deep Blue was definitely the best selection for a clean tattoo shop filled with amazingly talented artists with unique styles and friendly personalities, and even better it was a 5 minute drive from my house. I then decided Grey would be best suited to do the style of tattoo I wanted with his amazing eye for detail and unique style. I had also been referred here by countless friends and seen their awesome tattoos. All the other shops I went to were extremely rude, and their work was all stuff I'd seen a thousand times before, not to mention how dirty the shops and artists themselves seemed.. Deep Blue was the obvious choice. I've seen people crying over their tattoos from other places locally and I'm glad I was smart enough not to end up like that! When going about putting permanent art work on your body, do your research and you'll end up with Deep Blue coming out on top... trust me. I'd give them 10 stars if I could! read more

Now mind you, I don't have a lot of experience with tattoos, but since this place was recommended to me by a few people I thought I'd give it a go. I phoned to make an appointment, and I know I sounded like a dope, but the guy that answered the phone was SUPER patient, not patronizing or rude - he made my day. The day arrived, a friend went with me for moral support, and to have an additional tattoo for herself as well, (her's was BEAUTIFUL). My appointment was with Joey. I truly lucked out. What an awesome person. I couldn't ask for a sweeter guy! The entire shop was really cool, and all the guys were VERY nice. I showed Joey what I wanted, he made a few suggestions and options and we got to work. I work in the dental field so we got to talking about, and comparing sterilizing regulations between the two fields. It's amazing the care, and obvious infallible standards this shop adheres to. I felt very comfortable with the sterilization and cleanliness of the shop. I'm so happy with my tattoo, and Joey gave me awesome aftercare instructions. I have perfect confidence in this shop and with Joey. I couldn't ask for better. I'm so glad this was my first experience...it won't be my last. These guys are the best! Super clean and professional. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere as well. I had my nose pierced there a month ago and Ryan took plenty of time to make sure it was done perfectly to my liking. He then ordered the specific ring I wanted to put in once the swelling went down and did an awesome job with that as well.
