By the time this is posted, I'm sure word's already spread that Captain's Pizza has permanently closed down; The Hurricanes Helene and Milton sadly saw to that. Even sadder than that? This was clearly a vestigial pizza joint. Based on talks I've heard around Clearwater Beach, this was at one time a hotspot for tourists and locals alike, however I heard a lot of controversy that surrounded the place. Truthfully I was way too gentle with this place when I first reviewed it, so I'm here to rectify that before I leave this review be for good. The "pizza" I had here, if you can call it that, in 2024 was an over-glorified ritz cracker with cheese and tomato sauce...Absolutely no flavor, no substance, and it went down like a rock; I had gas station oven pizzas that tasted better than this. So little to say but so telling at the same time...The owners really had no pride in what they were doing at all to the point that they were borderline catatonic, and the entire place was in disrepair when I last visited it; Nothing was organized, wires were hanging out, and it was just straight up a rundown eating environment, which is a far cry from when it used to have outdoor seating reserved for its place. All of it was really offputting. Captain's Pizza was a shipwreck of its own doing and it was honestly time to abandon ship, just to keep it in tune with the theme. I genuinely wish I was around to try this pizza during its heyday...But honestly, it was for the best that it closed down. read more

I don't think I've had more doughy basic pizza with lack of ingredients prior to this. They have a nice special for 2 cheese pizza plus drink for $7.99 and they'll add a dollar each for pepperoni on slice. Being so close to the beach it lacks significant quality. Service is excellent and that's why the stars. read more

After seeing the sunset by the ocean, the family needed to be fed so we saw a pizza place with a sign 2 slices of cheese pizza and drink for $7.99. The boys were all in on pizza time. The establishment is located on a busy street where parking is hard to find. If you find parking, you will pay for every 15 minutes you're parked on the street. The pizza place is located next to many different bars, sweet shops and Hulk Hogan merch place. You enter the business and the young man took our order and quickly created the pie for us. The bathrooms and establishment was well kept. Business was light so our slices came out quick. The pizza was not generic tasting and the pie crust was light not with heavy breading. The cost for our 4 orders was $43 and worth the price. read more

There used to be a Captain's Pizza on the other side of Mandalay Avenue but it closed. It apparently reopened at this location. I was here for the $6.95 two slice special advertized out front. For $6.95, you get two slices of cheese pizza and a drink. The slices of pizza were quite large (they look larger in real life than in my photo below). I would have really enjoyed them but for a flavor I didn't like: I think it was garlic. Garlic is common on pizza but I don't like it. I'm still giving them four stars, however, because it is a matter of taste. If you like garlic, then you should like this pizza. The outdoor seating is nice. read more

Tom Terrific here with another honest review. You know what they say about sex and pizza. Even when it's bad it's good. Captain's cheese pizza was the lower sort of good in three ways. 1, Small slice 2. Big price - One slice $4.50 3. This place truly deserves zero stars as the attitude towards customers of the fellow working the counter and the establishments complete disregard for health codes is truly one of a kind. Many places these days will say their restroom is out of order for what i suspect is because they are too lazy to clean it as frequently and throughly as they should. Now I totally understand and respect a place reserving their restrooms for paying customers and have zero issues with that. Besides the health code violations we went ahead and ordered food requested to be well done and the wings were cooked to a "normal done" state but the supreme pizza was grossly undercooked and the cheapness of the toppings was immediately apparent from the bad sausage to the canned mushrooms. Came to captain pizza based on recommendation from Airbnb owner who mentioned this was best pizza in the area. He was right! We ordered the meat pizza and it was delicious, heavy on the meats which was just what we love and very tasty. The crust, cheese and sauce is perfect. The staff was very friendly and provided excellent customer service. This is a great spot for after sunset views, lunch or very late night snack! read more

This place treats tourists like garbage. Sat down for 10 seconds in one of their empty tables outside (zero business) and manager/owner came out to tell us to leave. Saw him do it to another couple too. Need more focus on pizza and your customer service so people come back, and less on patrolling your empty tables. read more
