I spent an overnight stay at at The Captain Wohlt Inn recently and I was more than pleased. My room was very clean and freshly modern within a beautiful Victorian house.The drawing room of the house had pocket doors and the house retained other Victorian features that were carefully preserved. The breakfast in the morning, delivered to my door was what I would describe as gourmet. The best scrambled eggs I have ever had. I must give an acknowledgement to Brandt, the Innkeeper, who keeps the property running smoothly. He knows a lot about the local history and gave us a map of the town when we first arrived and informed us on some good places to go. Lovely town and Captain Wohlt Inn was charming. read more

This was a great stay in Hermann, MO. We will come back to Captain Wohlt's again. When we arrived we actually were informed we accidentally had booked the night before, but that he had realized it and foresight to still have a room for us. The room was super clean and nice. There was a beautiful landscaped area with seating, and at night, that was a place to be, so many guests were there, with s'mores you could make at the firepit. There was quiet background music that was great for still being able to have conversations, and the owners dog came out for a bit and visited. I would definitely come back, close to the downtown areas, clean, and beautiful. read more

I hope by giving an honest review I won't be sabotaging my ability to get reservations here ever again!! This is by FAR the best B&B we've ever experienced, because the Captain Wohlt Inn offers much, much more than just "bed" and "breakfast," even though the beds are high quality and the breakfast is amazing! (Forget your continental breakfast -- at the Captain Wohlt, a giant, chef-prepared breakfast arrives each morning, hot and fragrant!) The properties and the rooms are beautiful and modern, even though you'll be staying in houses that are well over 100 years old. The owner thought of EVERYTHING you can possibly need. Going to the wineries? Corkscrew in your room. Looks like rain? Large umbrellas are there too. Forgot your hair dryer? No worries. There's one in your spa bathroom. All the amenities of a luxury hotel without the upcharges. You can have as much or as little of the Captain Wohlt experience as you want. If the Hermann night life isn't for you, there's a beautiful wine garden right on the Captain Wohlt property where you can enjoy live music on the weekends and special treats from Brant the owner. (We had s'mores, and live music from Barak Hill, who also brought along some of his beautiful art pottery to share with guests!) If it gets chilly in the evening, Brant (who literally seems to work 24/7) will cover you in a cozy blanket. The Captain Wohlt Inn has to be the best value in Hermann (maybe in all of Missouri, for that matter). The breakfast alone is worth the price of admission -- not sure how Brant can provide so much quality for so little money, but he's doing everything right. I would give ten stars if I could. Oh, and you know those people who go around to hotels with their little black lights, looking for stains and other suspicious anomalies? I'm that person. Nothing at all to see at the Captain Wohlt. Amazing place to stay. Breakfast was delivered to our door, nicely arranged and was very tasty! Plenty of food for 2 people and more than enough bottled water. The newly remodeled area of the property had all updated features included lighted vanity, shower fixtures, and LED lighting. Brant and Patrick were gracious hosts. We had two small dogs with us and our room had a small side yard for them to play in. All in all, I would definitely come back and stay here. OH yes, Almost forgot about the cookies. Brant's wife must be using real butter, lard, and sugar because each bite of the two LARGE cookies they give is so filling and rich. So, so good!! read more

I guess I live in a parallel universe. I don't get the great reviews. We stayed on the first floor of the "blue house." The room was "spartan" bordering on stark...no nightstands, mirrors or wall hangings...anything but romantic, comfortable or inviting. Overpriced! Breakfast is not included. For $12 it is dropped off on the porch in a plastic container. It was average at best. Eat out! Dogs are allowed for an additional charge, but it certainly is not "pet friendly." Brant has a personality more suited for doing something else. We would never return. read more

Where do I start?! This is the cutest B&B! We arrived late Sunday afternoon and were greeted by the nicest staff. They gave the entire group a tour of the properties. We stayed in the Captains Neighbor cottage. The rooms were all very comfortable, each one had it's own bathroom, microwave and mini fridge. There were homemade cookies and chilled water for each guest. How sweet! We sat out for a while on the patio and enjoyed the fire pit, beautiful pergola, and hammock. There are patio heaters in choice locations and plenty of space for outdoor entertaining. Breakfast was served at 8:30 am and included the most yummy and moist pumpkin bread, fruit cup, baked eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, tea selection and juice. The guys who run this B&B are so accommodating. I will definitely come back here. read more

What a gem! The inn boasts beautifully updated rooms that outshine the competition and a gorgeous garden area that is meticulously cared for along with great live music at night. The breakfasts were fantastic as were the cookies we received upon arrival. The location is perfect, being a short walk away from everything in town. Brant hustles non-stop to ensure the experience is top notch for every guest and man does he deliver. He was incredibly helpful in educating us on other shops and spots to visit in the area. Brandt was amazing and has done an incredible job with the B&B. The room was immaculate with great attention to the details. The breakfast was varied and incredibly delicious. The grounds were great and free of bugs. Live music and cool drinks on Friday. Adirondack chairs, fire pits, bags, and giant jenga for outdoor activities. He provided us with a map and ran down the ins and outs of the quaint little town. Forget a cool towel, the fresh cookies upon arrival were SPECTACULAR. At night it was peaceful and we didn't have to worry about noise from the neighbors. Bed was comfortable, numerous comfy pillows, water pressure in the shower was to die for, plenty of towels. Stayed next door at the Vinchester and heard the music coming from the Captain Wohlt Inn and was confronted with a stand-off gentleman that it's $35 a day for a day pass. For one, I'd never pay $35 a person to listen to someone playing music over a loudspeaker. 2, I'd never stay here by the way he approached us. Terrible customer service and wouldn't stay here as a first time attendee to the area. Stay at the Vinchester Inn because they provide exceptional customer service. Be aware of walking 10 yards up the block because it'll cost you $35. read more

We drove from the San Francisco Bay Area to St Charles MO to visit my parents bringing my husband's mountain bike with us so my husband could ride the Katy trail. After 3 nights in hotels this was an awesome place!! Brant was so helpful over the phone and via text with room information and allowing us to stay with our dog. Mary's cookies are amazing! Brant and Mary were super accommodating about an early breakfast and bringing us some ice in the morning for Jim's bike ride. We did not make it to the fire pit and s'mores but I am sure they were yummy. Brant was very helpful as well giving us restaurant recommendations where we could take our dog. Just spent 3 nights at the Inn and couldn't be happier with the experience. Was greeted by the owner and walked to my room upon arrival. It was super clean and nicely updated with two enormous freshly made cookies awaiting me. Every morning began with breakfast delivered to my door by 0830 which started the day off right. Friday included live entertainment on the grounds and was super enjoyable in the incredibly beautiful and spacious wine garden. This was just right for us 2! Drove into town and found this place on Yelp, and they had a vacancy! The owner is super nice, even upgraded us at no charge! The room was a separate house! So cute! Completely remodeled, so updated and modern! Very nice accommodations and bathroom. They even gave us fresh baked cookies and 2 bottles of water for the room. They serve a delicious breakfast to your room! The room has a fridge and Keurig and lots of coffee variety. So nice! I didn't get to bake a picture of the room, but we were very comfortable. My husband and i stayed in the whirlpool suite and we loved it. Brant sat down with us and showed us a map of Hermann and highlighted places to visit. He showed us our room, gave us delicious cookies, and let us know there was cold water in the fridge. There was a firepit at night with what we needed to make s'mores and that followed by time in the whirlpool made for a great night. Due to me facilitating an early morning training, Al made accomodations and had our first course of our breakfast set up promptly at 7:00 AM followed by a second course. I have stayed at this place twice now and it has yet to disappoint! The first time we came here was November of 2013 for Veteran's Day. The Captain Wohlt Inn is VERY supportive of military and gave us (and our 2 military friends) a free night stay for Veteran's Day. As a result, we decided to come and try them again this past weekend and our stay was EVEN better than last time. First, the service here is incredible. I came in a little past check-in time and was met by (I think) the owner. He checked me in quickly and carried my heavy bag up 2 flights of stairs. During breakfast, the staff were extremely attentive. They made sure my food came out quickly and my water was constantly refilled. On the topic of breakfast.....their breakfasts are AMAZING. Seriously, some of the best (if not the best) breakfasts I have ever had in my entire life. This past Saturday's breakfast included salted caramel scones, a mint fruit salad, fried potatoes, and an egg quiche. It was so good I thought they couldn't top it.....but they definitely did this morning. Today, we had an amazing fruit and yogurt parfait with homemade granola, bacon, baked eggs, and (I believe) asiago apricot french toast. SO very good. The breakfast alone is reason enough to stay here forever. In addition to the free breakfast, you also get 2 free huge cookies every day. They are SO good (which shouldn't be surprising given their great breakfasts). We tried a chocolate chip cookie as well as an oatmeal caramel raisin cookie (at least that's what I thought it was). Both were amazing! Finally, in addition to free cookies and a great breakfast, they have an amazing patio space. It is completely lit up at night and has 2 fire pits. Each night they have the supplies to make s'mores, which is also fantastic. In terms of the room, it was really nice. What I really like is they updated their rooms recently. Our room was sleek and modern with gray walls and white-striped sheets. The design made for a really classy space. I appreciate this as I'm not the type of person who likes the bed and breakfasts that look like your grandma's house. They also had really nice toiletries in the bathroom. During both of our stays, we stayed in one the attic rooms since it is their cheapest room. I will say that my husband and I are under 5'5 and this probably isn't the room to stay in if you're tall (especially with regard to the shower). If you're short though, then this is the room for you! If you're tall, they have tons of other rooms to choose from. With that said, this place (and others in Hermann) book up quickly so don't delay! In sum, amazing food, great service, modern rooms, and a fantastic outdoor space (all for a really affordable price). I don't think I'd dream of staying any place else in Hermann. We most certainly will be back in the future! read more

Captain Wohlt Inn is the third bed and breakfast I've stayed at while visiting Hermann. Out of the three this one far exceeds the others! The owner and his staff are friendly and courteous. At night there were several fire pits set up on the patio and s'mores to enjoy! There was also a ton of produce you can take home that they grow in a garden across the street. Terrible place to stay!!!! one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The "delicious home made cookies" and "wonderful gormet breakfasts" sold me. The room was horrible. no nightstands nor was there any place to put our luggage except for on the floor. The room cost $450 for one night. We were moved into another room after I voiced my dissatisfaction. Breakfast was a complete joke. It was delivered to our room in a plastic bag. Breakfast consisted of two hard boiled eggs in a small microwave bowl, frozen potatoes, a small piece of watermelon and an ice cold muffin and a piece of butter. the "gormet breakfast" was served in a plastic restaurant to go box with plastic utensils and a paper napkin. The gormet cookies were obviously from Sam's or Costco. There was a stamp on the paper bag with 7/23/23 on it. There is no doubt in my mind that people were paid for writing five star reviews. read more

Had a wonderful overnight getaway at Captain Wohlt's Inn. My mother and I took a little stay-cation during the Christmas holiday (Dec 26-27, 2019) From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Mary whom was warm and welcoming. Included in the arrival we were given 2 freshly baked cookies; One cinnamon I believe and another chocolate chip. We stayed in the guest room on the 1st floor in the main house. It was freshly renovated and very clean and our room had a Keurig machine . After we enjoyed a full day in Hermann we topped off the night by the fire pit with s'mores. They have all the fixin's for the s'mores right by the fire with blankets and all. The owner Brandt was extremely friendly and kept the fire going all night for everyone. The next morning Chef Al made a wonderful 2 course breakfast including baked oatmeal and baked eggs with local bacon and biscuits and gravy. It was my 1st experience at a B&B and it set the bar high. We love you, Brant! As soon as we walked in, you could tell this wasn't Brant's first rodeo. He sat us down and gave us a rundown of the town (map included), trolley options, food recs and of course, the wineries + distilleries...all in less than five minutes. Pretty damn efficient, I tell ya. There was a chalkboard wall in the dining area with a list of weekend events - also super handy. The B&B was centrally located and we never walked for more than 5-7 minutes to get anywhere. You get cookies + water bottles upon your arrival, and the best part of all...the A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. breakfasts that had us full for the majority of the day. Great location, cute place, warm hospitality and good price! I stayed here with my husband last night and another couple. We stayed in "the captains quarters". The kitchen was small but just fine for us! There were two good sized bedrooms and two full Baths. One was on the main level and one was upstairs. This was great for a little night time privacy. We love history so we really appreciated this old house and the decor. It was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We were greeted by Brant who gave us the low down on the town. We were able to walk easily to the downtown area of hermann which was fantastic! Sunday breakfast was superb. Yogurt parfait, eggs, fancy French toast and sausage. Coffee, orange juice and hot tea were served as well. Great stay, we will be back! read more

My wife and I stayed at Captain Wohlt Inn two nights in mid-August (Tues and Wed the 13th and 14th). We really liked our spacious room and spacious bathroom. Very comfortable. The cookies we got when we checked in were really good. The highlight was definitely breakfast. The baked oatmeal on Wednesday was amazing. The blueberry maple sausage was great. The grounds at the inn were beautiful with a nice lawn and chairs and also gardens. Brant made smores at the fire-pit too. This was a very nice place and I would stay again. read more

We stayed here for the weekend while in town for my sisters wedding. They were very welcoming from the start. We arrived earlier than check-in after a very early flight into St. Louis and a very rainy day, even though it was before we were supposed to check-in they didn't say a word about it and treated us very well. The breakfasts were more than we expected, thank you to the chef Al! We stayed in one of the attic rooms were a bit a small but very tidy and homey. They offered us s'mores and pizza by the fire pit during the evening. They went over a map of the town with all the local winery's. They also had a dog we could pet since we missed our pup at home. We stayed over a Saturday night at the Captain Wohlt Inn. Kent was a gracious host and the room was clean and comfortable. At breakfast the next morning, Kent told us all some of the history of the town and of the Captain. We also met some interesting people, as we often do at B&B's. The location couldn't be much better. It's just a short walk to bars, restaurants and shops. Although we weren't blown away by any aspect of our stay, it was definitely a good choice for the price. Worth a visit, and very affordable! Since we were sightseeing, and not planning to spend a lot of time in the room, we got an attic room. It was very cozy, comfortable, neat, and unique. Matt and Mary were both very kind, energetic, and welcoming hosts. They enjoy what they do, and it shows! Matt welcomed us in on the evening of our visit, and showed us the room options and where everything was around Hermann; and Mary was our gracious housekeeper and chef. The breakfast was fantastic!!! The first course was a cinnamon and blueberry muffin with fresh-cut fruit, while the second course included scrambled cheesy eggs with sausage and Wurst Haus-authentic met-wurst. The breakfast was homemade in the kitchen right around the corner from the dining room. I watched Mary prepare part of it! For an equivalent breakfast at some restaurants, the room would have come for free! We were fortunate to join another couple for breakfast from Glasgow, Missouri, who we enjoyed getting to know over coffee and breakfast. I haven't stayed in other B&B's in Hermann, but I would go back! read more

We stayed at this B&B for my 26th birthday in early August. Got there at 5:30 on Friday and stayed through Sunday morning. It was a wonderful time! Kent is a wonderful host and we really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the Irish Room, which is actually across the street in the 'Captain's Neighbor'. Our room had a private bathroom and TV as well as central a/c (helpful for midwest summers!). The Captain Wohlt is right in the middle of Hermann, easy location for quick walks around town. The breakfasts are delicious and filing. Any time we go back to Hermann, we'll be sure to stay at the Captain! read more

The Captain Wohlt Inn Suites is a must stay! We were in the Sammons Suite and were very impressed. Brant was a great host. He not only allowed for a very late arrival but greeted us with a fire going in the fire pit and smores. You can tell he takes great pride in his properties and the breakfast that he serves. Our room was exceptionally clean and the breakfasts were very filling and absolutely delish! Unlike many of the B&B's his is almost like a small little resort. The outdoor area with fire pits, strung lights, and little seating areas makes it very unique. You can stay to yourselves and drink some wine or gather and talk with other guests. It is very pretty and relaxing. I would consider my husband and I pretty picky people and we definitely had a five star weekend and will be back again very soon. read more

This place is so nice....the rooms are very clean and updated and I felt like I was in a 5 Star hotel with a bed and breakfast feel. Everyday they leave 2 cookies and 2 bottles of water at your room. The breakfast that Mary cooks in the morning is amazing. At night you can enjoy the patio area with nice sting lights and soft music playing in the background.
