The room came with a private bath. The owner met us on arrival and got us checked in. We got a little history on the place. We got some ideas about where we could get some supper. Later we wandered down to the river and enjoyed seeing it at night. Back at the B&B I heated some water and had some lovely caffeine free raspberry tea. The owner apologized that really the only TV was Roku... But we never used it because we came to get away from all that and just chill. Well the Wi-Fi worked fine. (We weren't wanting totally cut off from the world.). This building qualifies as very historic. The air conditioning worked perfect. The drive here was scenic and fun along the rolling and curving road. The price was very reasonable. The decor is well matched to the building. The atmosphere is cosy. The rooms are huge. I've had apartments that were smaller. The table and chairs and couch were nice. There was an in room pot to heat water for coffee or tea. Breakfast at 830 was fruit with yogurt and granola, a very nice/tasty quiche, juice, and cinnamon bread. While the location is not far from some wineries and other activities, it is also slightly remote. If you don't mind being in a quiet small town and can spend time talking or reading... This might be the place for you. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I can't say for sure if we'll ever get back, or when that might possibly be... But I can say... We certainly would love the chance to spend some more time here. Staying here Friday night was exactly the experience we were needing and hoping for.

Wanda and Sandy were wonderful and the breakfasts she cooked were huge and delicious...from fresh fruit to farm fresh eggs, a pile of bacon, cinnamon rolls, muffins, toast...it was incredible. Highly recommend this B&B if you're ever in the St James area. And to top it off, my wife got to see her very first cardinal. We were sitting outside on their sun porch the first morning when Sandy's sister made us a wonder breakfast and my wife got to see about 5 cardinals coming to their bird feeder...It was just an all around pleasant stay.

BED BUG BITES!! I…read morestayed here two nights. The first night I woke up with little bites all over my side. I thought they might me spider bites- since this is a wooden cottage in the middle of the woods. I stayed a second night and got even more- about 20-30 bites in total. I showed them to Pat, the owner who seemed like she couldn't have cared less. A few days later a doctor diagnosed them as BED BUG BITES. The doctor was familiar with bed bugs and knew that this amount would only occur in a very infested bed. The bites are absolutely horrible and itch terribly. It's been 6 days from my trip and the bites hurt and itch so badly that I can't sleep through the night and wake up to put lotion on them. I called Pat and told her, but again she denied that it could be anything, though promised to watch the sheets. I would NOT go here again. This has been THE WORST experience I've ever had from a hotel or B&B. And I'm shocked that Pat won't acknowledge it or even say she's sorry. This place is a cute wooden cottage and the food is good. Before going PLEASE CALL to make sure they have resolved the Bed Bug issue. And don't stay in the Chicken room. (The rooms are themed). I wouldn't wish bed bugs on my worst enemy. I hope you don't get them either!!

The cottage-they've redone a detached garage (or carriage house) so it's like stepping into a 1700's English cottage. We were there on two cold, rainy days, and the place wrapped us in warmth and comfort-and romance! It's furnished with quilts, antiques and art from Hermann, and the bathroom has a jacuzzi for 2. Words don't do it justice, see the website! The hosts-you get their full attention, because you're their only guests. Jack and Chris are friendly and gracious, but know when to give you your space. Breakfast is pretty much on your schedule-Chris will ask you when you want her to have it ready in the morning. Sometime during the day she'll slip in and restock towels and put dessert in the fridge, which leads me to... The food-OMG, you won't need lunch after eating a Cady breakfast! The first morning was a baked apple in homemade fruit liqueur, eggs Benedict, potato pancake, and bacon; the next morning, poached pears, whole wheat pancakes, scrambled eggs, and sausage. Most of it is locally produced. Absolutely delicious, and served in their dining room that's also furnished in Colonial-period decor. And wherever you get dinner, skip dessert, because it's better back at the cottage-we had chocolate torte and a peanut butter pie that was so good I almost wanted to roll in it! A word of warning, if you will-they have wi-fi if you bring a laptop, and a CD player stocked with classical and American Standards, but no TV-they expect that you're there to enjoy each other. And in these surroundings, that's not a problem. A charming place, will definitely return!

The cottage itself has roomy comforts and one of the best bathrooms I have seen in a hotel as far as a jacuzzi and the decor. Breakfast was a standout. Creamy eggs does slide well with a good cup of coffee. I recommend having the breakfast in the patio area and not being afraid to socialize with the owners. They are very friendly and helpful in navigating your way around Hermann to know where to shop and eat. Very pleasant stay, very pleasant people, and something unique that can be experienced if you are looking for a break from the typical B&B experience. Make sure to have those chocolate chip cookies. They are some of the best that you will have.

The B&B consists of two suites. I'm in the Federal Suite which includes a bedroom/bath, parlour, dining room, and a kitchen. It's almost bigger than my apartment! In addition to all the comforts of home (plus a homemade breakfast made to order), the B&B comes with Jeanette, a self-described "Innkeeper/Grandma." Jeanette is an incredibly sweet woman who loves her B&B and makes her customers feel very much at home. She even called me after the first day of the bar exam to see how I was doing! This place is great! I don't know if I'll ever come back to Jeff City, but if I do, I'll stay here.

Jim gives a very detailed tour of the house and provides a detailed map with restaurant, winery/distillery, and shop recommendations.
