This nice little camp site boasts a quiet marsh view and both RV and tent camping. There's a small…read morebathroom and shower that are better than nothing and a boat ramp just a short ways from the camp site. The primitive sites are first come first serve, but there is a large overflow field just before the campground. It is also the start of the Awendaw passage of the Palmetto Trail which is really pretty once you get farther into it and there are quite a few marsh views. Overnight parking is cheap in the overflow area if you wanted to park and hike into the trail for some dispersed camping. It's probably the most tame camping spot in the national forest.

I guess many of the amenities aren't exactly necessary for my but, it's a great place nonetheless. See a list from their website of what they offer below... Most of the amenities I have at my own complex so they are a bit redundant for me personally. They do have a dog park with a big lake that I'd love to use but, my dog hates to go in the water and that's the majority of the park. From the list below, the thing I use the most is the walking trails. It's a great little trail with doggie pot stops on the way. I recently realized they have a couple horseshoe pits with backboards too! As this is a recent discover, I am totally looking forward to getting my hands on some horseshoes and getting a game together. Great new neighborhood! I drove past Wando High School and checked on the progress of the new…read morefootball stadium. Wow! So much has changed. Not only is the stadium about 70% finished (to the untrained eye), but an elementary school has sprung up across the street and the newest (that I've been to) neighborhood, also the title of this port, is nearing maturity of completion. I cruised the neighborhood at a leisurely pace and stopped and spoke with a very gracious new neighbor. He spoke highly of his new home and his neighbors and expressed an appreciation for the amenities provided the residents. He also told me that he was happy about the ultimate location of the new football stadium as it would have minimal effect on the local traffic situation, even in light of it being the home to 3 different school teams. This neighborhood has quite a variety, not only of diverse prices, but types of homes as well. From townhouses to single family homes - some with attached garages and some with garages detached and behind the homes and some very upscale homes as well. The only downside to all of it being the relative closeness of many of the homes I saw. I think that if bout 80% of the number of homes had been put on the same amount of land that it would have a completely different look and feel. It's not bad enough to give one claustrophobia, but there certainly is not enough space between homes for an effective noise barrier given the innate hearing problems of people my age and the relative volume of teenagers who's age my behaviors more closely resemble. A good old-fashioned family blowout (w/o the need for police intervention) would more than likely be witnessed by many pairs of ears, winter or summer, day or night. But I'd say that's really the only drawback unless one insisted that there should be more than one specific amenity area. I can not argue with that either. You go Carolina Park!!!

Stopped by here while on a camping trip with our scout troop. Free admission is always a good deal…read moremaker. We heard that they had red wolves and wanted to check it out. We were not disappointed. While observing them from the platform, we were approached by an employee who had just finished feeding them. He asked if we wanted to know more about the wolves and then gave us an entire educational seminar on these wolves and others he has helped to raise. Turns out, Wolfman Rob, is the premier expert on all things related to red wolves in the state of South Carolina and beyond. How special was this for our troop to get this kind of experience shared with them? Not one of them were on their cell phones while he was talking for 30+ minutes. They were all focused and attentive and he was educational and fun to listen to. On top of that, we got to see many live alligators around the water while walking in and out. Definitely would recommend a visit if you're in the area.
