By far the absolute best hot sauce we have ever had! When we moved, we had it shipped to Missouri!

The kimchi cheddar corn soufflé was also very good but not as good as the scone so would give it S tier. The matcha and black sesame butter mochi tasted very good but I think I still prefer the more savory options so would give it an A+ tier. The texture reminds me of Malaysian kuih and flavor was good. The service with the grocery mart area was friendly and helpful for asking questions. We got a fancy soy sauce here to sushi later and it was pretty good. They didn't up charge the soy sauce too much either. Would come back again even though the selection was small.

This was a cute place. It's a narrow building. If you enter from the street entrance you will find…read morea bit of retail items, food items for sale, and a few places to sit to eat. I was thrilled at the chop stick holders and the sauces that were available. Local and foreign. If you keep walking through, there are stairs and you can go up to where they make and sell some pastries and matcha, and I believe coffee. I came for the treats. I grabbed a scallion miso scone with a chili smear on top. It was nice, the texture was good. The flavors weren't as strong as I had hoped for, but texture carried the weight. I also had a sourdough cookie, but it wasn't anything too fabulous. It was a good cookie. Stop in for the creative tastes. The counter person was nice. It was a very brief interaction.

We go here every time we're in Portland. Plenty of free parking out back. They've got the best…read moreprices on mushrooms anywhere in the city. The produce can be hit or miss, but the mushrooms are always prime. Same with the fresh herbs. Massive lengths of garlic chives, absolute trees worth of mint, and lots of other weird and delicious leaves of various sorts. I was able to find plenty of pre-chopped frozen lemongrass, which I now will only buy frozen, becuase it's so fresh tasting and not as much of a pain to prepare. I made a soup where I used a full half cup of the stuff, which is never something I'd have done if I had to chop that by hand! Half the items don't have a price sticker or a sign that states the prices, but when you get to the register, they're happy to do a price check for you so that you know what you're paying. I'm assuming that with such a small physical space, and that variety of stuff, it's hard to constantly keep on top of prices on the shelves. If the cashier were annoyed at being asked the price, I'd not shop here, but I've always had them be happy to tell us the prices with no issues. Seriously though the selection is insane. There's stuff that I'd never imagine I can find easily in New England, but it's right there on the shelf. The noodle variety is great, with plenty of gluten free noodles for those who need it. Plenty of dried mushrooms and tea too!

As a result the uni I received was swimming in brine; I would have preferred the straight-up uni I had before. I got two vegetarian dishes- both were disappointing: the seaweed salad was crunchy, flavorless and the Maine seaweed in vinegar was slimy and otherwise flavorless. I ordered these for Steff- I'm afraid she and other vegetarians would be disappointed. The whole dish of salmon roe on the other hand was fantastic- I was careful not to leave a single egg- so fresh, so sweet- better than the Osetra and Beluga caviar I have had in Manhattan. Robert Deniro, whose diet I have read about consists mainly of caviar, would love this. It would take little effort to come up with more vegetarian dishes.

Usually I'd walk, but I came straight from work so I parked here. It's awesome that they even have free parking unlike many places in Portland. You walk in through door 5, turn right before the stairs. It's no frills. You can order different types of fish, or the sashimi set, plus a couple of add-ons to make your own "sushi." Once you pay, head upstairs to the staff cafeteria (third door on the right). You can use their microwaves to heat up your rice, grab sauces, rice seasonings, etc. There are some bench tables to sit at and enjoy. I am so glad I got to experience this-it was delicious! That being said, I would probably just buy my fish here and take it home next time to roll up my sushi and make it more beautiful. If you are expecting a restaurant with sushi offerings like Yosaku, do NOT be mistaken. This is a fish trading business that happens to sell some DIY lunch items. Still delicious, just come in with the expectation that they are selling and packaging fish, it smells fishy, it is a workplace.
