We had hot dogs, and my wife--had chicken which had a blue colour in it --sent it back and didn't eat. After checking online, I noticed multiple reviews from others describing similar symptoms and concerns about hygiene. That's when alarm bells truly started ringing. We trusted this place with our family's safety and they've shrugged it off, refusing to accept any responsibility and only offering a partial refund. Not even an apology. If you care about your health and that of your loved ones, stay well away from Wild West Diner.

It's really enticing as it's clear money has been spent on the theming, giving it the right feel for Blackpool. It looks impressive and fun, and the menu looks quite good too! When you walk in, the theming is superb, all wooden beams, mock Western facades, and photos of the Old West, as the song "I'm Just A Country Girl" plays. High hopes! A server in a plaid shirt asks us to sit wherever we like. The menu is what you'd expect from a Western themed restaurant, big breakfasts, ribs, chicken, burgers, steaks etc. As we were deciding what to have, the waiter came over to ask us for our drinks order, so we just went for a couple of Diet Cokes. This waiter seemed quite stone faced and didn't seem very happy or interested. When he brought the drinks he asked for our food order, but we weren't ready. He came back another 2 times before we were ready... giving us the sense that he just wanted to get us in and out. We opted for appetizers of breaded garlic mushrooms and cheese and bacon potato skins, and mains of the smoked chilli dog and the Wild West Beef Cheeseburger. The waiter asked if he should bring the starters at the same time as the main... this was a really weird thing to ask, but we just said ok, we didn't mind. At this point we both realised that the cola tasted as if it was either diluted, running out of syrup, or a cheap copy of Coke, it was also going flat. We didn't complain though, it was just a glass of pop. The food turned up in a strange order, the first being one of our starters and the other one's main, then the others a few minutes later, again with no smile or anything from the waiter. The garlic mushrooms were tasty, if not pre-frozen, and the potato skins had lots of bacon, but were sadly quite dry. Then we moved onto the mains. The chips were plain frozen chips, and cooked well, but also a bit dry. A bit of seasoning would've pepped them up a bit, but as they weren't seasoned we just used salt and pepper. Phil R said his hot dog was tasty, but the chilli on top was luke warm, and not very spicy. My burger was an 8oz monster, but a real solid block of meat which again was pretty bland, lacking seasoning. It had cheese and a bit of limp lettuce but it was in a nice bun. It was also extremely greasy! After biting into it, I was able to hold it over my plate and squeeze it, to then have liquid fat pour out onto the plate. I couldn't finish it. The music stopped being country at this point, veering into dull modern songs I've never heard of. Shame. At this point I popped to the toilet, where the theming continued, which is a nice touch. However after I washed my hands I noticed that although it was 6pm on a thursday, the cleaning rota said it hadn't been checked since 10am the day before! Not really what you want to see of the levels of cleanliness, especially when you know your customers will see this rota! When I returned, Phil R said that the waiter had asked if we were finished, and cleared our plates, but he didn't ask if everything had been ok (he also didn't ask this during the meal) or if we wanted the bill or desserts, so we were left sat at the table wondering what we were meant to do. The waiter was just stood at the bar chatting with another member of staff. Did he want us to get his attention or go over to him to progress the meal? Eventually he came over and picked up our glasses, "shall I get you your bill?" he asked, but I interjected, "uh... do you do desserts?", he genuinely looked surprised, "we do... Did you want something?", "well is there a menu or anything?", "yeah I'll get it", he then went to get the menu (not taking the glasses with him, oddly), so we had a quick look. The desserts didn't really look that interesting, they didn't even have a description, they were just a footnote in a small box at the bottom of the back of the menu. So we didn't bother. We got the bill paid and left. The waiter didn't smile once. It's a real shame, because visually the place looked great, it's had money spent on it, from the antler chandeliers down to the brushed leather booths, but as was displayed on this visit, it seems to be all show and no substance, with the food being mediocre and the customer service being abysmal. Wanted to like it, but we won't be going back here again. Poor show.

As a result, depending on the evening, you may find that being smartly dressed makes you the odd-one-out. If it's a Friday or Saturday night, however, you should be good. Just be aware that wearing a t-shit, hoodie and tracksuit bottoms won't be looked upon with a frown here - it's just that sort of area. Food wise, it's okay. Above average pub food, but VERY expensive. £16 for a rack of ribs that aren't particularly great - they're alright. The waiters and waitresses are in short supply so expect to be here 1h 30m even if the restaurant is only half full. I had to ask twice and wait ten minutes for a drink with my meal. The place should be much cheaper than it is. For date night, it's not too bad, and there aren't really any places close-by to compete with it (except the pub literally across the road - but I haven't tried that in years). The waiters and waitresses are particularly inattentive, but the music (a mixture of swing and 60s music) provides a good atmosphere and the milkshakes are great! Don't make it a regular thing, maybe once every so often. And if you can travel further, I suggest it unless you're going to watch a film at the cinema also across the road (and so also invited those previously described less than savoury characters). Bring a tracksuit!

We went as a couple but there were lots of families there and birthdays - as with TGI Fridays (which Frankie & Bennys definitely has the feel of) they make a big deal of birthdays and get a real buzz going in the restaurant. We didn't feel encroached by the families as we had a lot of room, it is not as crammed in as places like pizza hut. The food was really nice, lots of choice and piping hot. It was good value for money and we will definitely go back as a family as I feel it is a versatile restaurant and my young children will enjoy it.

When the drinks arrived we had been missing milk from our tea for two so we tried to get the waitresses attention, at first we thought she would come and check to see if everything was alright and bring us the milk for our teas. She even passed us several times dealing with people on tables around us and we kept asking for her and trying to get her attention and eventually I had to go to the bar with all the staff "hanging around the bar" to ask for some milk to now add to our now lukewarm teas. When the food arrived, most the chips fell off from my daughters meal onto the table and my wife's cutlery was thrown on the floor. The waiter just said it wasn't his day and went to get a new knife while we scooped up the chips off the table to put onto her plate. On my own meal the ribs were really nice however the chicken was pink inside and not cooked properly and the plate was covered in grease. We tried to make the most of the meal but the overall attitude of the staff seemed to hang over our meal and my daughter has a disability and felt self conscious about the staff waiting at the bar looking over and talking. Although she didn't know that the conversation was about her it didn't stop her feeling like it. Overall I couldn't recommend this restaurant to anybody and it is a real shame because I believe with decent staff that cared about their customers this would have been a completely different story.

We ordered a chicken fajita and a chilli baked potato, and were told that the potato would take 25 minutes, so the server advised we order some nachos as a starter. 10 minutes later, all the food arrived at once so there was absolutely no need to have ordered the nachos - it did feel a little like someone trying to cajole you into buying more than you wanted a little too openly... The food itself was also not great. My fajita was essentially a packet wrap, filled with not much filling and far too much sweet, bland salsa, and with barely any spices at all. The wedges that came with it were clearly out of a standard oven-cook packet like you can buy in any supermarket, and the 'nachos' were just small, circular tortilla chips smothered in tasteless squeezy cheese (I'm partial to a helping of squeezy cheese now and then, but this stuff just tasted of goo with no flavour). The food was, however, quick, fairly cheap, and hot, and filled an empty stomach... So I suppose it served its purpose. And there are lots of interesting old photographs of the park throughout the last decade, so it's worth popping inside - just maybe forgo the food and pass through as an interested visitor!

Having been in a few decent American diners I can only imagine that any American tourist would be horrified at this place claiming to be an American Diner.

It is away from the nastiness in Central Blackpool, so the atmosphere is sedate; I think this is a place where one can take one's grandmother for dinner. Based on experiences in previous years, we have found the service here to be consistenly good and the quality of the food to be consistently okay (not great, not good, but okay, which is good enough for us). We therefore visited this place twice during our recent trip to the Blackpool area this past April. Our first visit happened on a Sunday evening. The host seated us right away and was attentive, and our server was friendly and efficient. We had the Sunday Roast dinner special, which is a great value at GBP 7.99. Hubby and I both ordered the roast chicken, which we both thought was cooked perfectly. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the portion was quite generous. The vegetables were nicely steamed (i.e. still crisp and not fall-apart mushy) and the yorskshire pudding was quite tasty (i.e. big, fluffy, and not greasy). Since we generally find the dining choices in Blackpool quite dire, we returned to the Red Lion the following night. Sadly, the experience we had this time around was quite the opposite to the one we had the previous night. The host was a little scattered - he neither mentioned any specials that were available to us that night nor provided us with their evening meal deals menu. I am convinced, based on what I witnessed throughout the night, that he was more concerned about socializing with a particular group of people and running back and forth to what I assumed to be his car, than he was about doing what he is paid to do. But I digress. Had we known about the evening deals menu, we would not have ordered off the regular menu because the food off of this particular menu was awful and a bit pricey considering the poor quality. Hubby had the beef burger, which was bland and dry. The patty tasted like it is of the frozen and processed variety. I had the Sea Bass Skewers which consisted of 3 small, thinly-sliced, rolled up and skewered pieces of over-buttered and over-cooked white fish that didn't taste too much like sea bass. The only saving grace that night was our server, Jamie, who was, incidentally, also our server the previous night. She was just absolutely fantastic. My rating: Based on prior years' experiences: 4* Based on my most recent experience, I could only recommend this place for the Sunday roast, and therefore, 2.75 *. Overall rating: 3*.

Smokies has two venues, one in Darwen and one in Chorley. As Chorley is nearer to me, we decided to try this one. I like that when you walk in, it already has a warm atmosphere, created by varying lighting, high ceilings, and lots of wood in the decor and furniture. In fact later in the evening, one of the owners would tell me that she loves upcycling, and the wood from the bar came from a Scottish distillery, and the tables throughout were made from old casks from the same distillery, simply sanded and oiled, and that what I thought was a table number on our table was in fact one of the original barrel numbers! I love a bit of provenance! I was surprised to find that the restaurant goes further back into another room, and even has another floor with even more seating for diners! As we entered we were welcomed warmly by who I assume is one of the owners (mentioned above). She checked for our booking and pointed us to our table. Another member of staff brought our menus and explained about the specials menu, and specials on the chalkboards throughout the restaurant. The menu is a vegan's nightmare and a carnivore's wet dream! Delicious meaty starters and mains, a section dedicated to meat from the smoker, and even a couple of sharing platters all described in a way to make your mouth water before you get chance to order. This is a proper southern States style bbq joint, their mantra is "real food, real smoke, real slow", and despite that very much being accurate given their quality offerings, the prices are incredibly decent. We decided on the "couples platter" which was beef brisket, pulled pork, half a rack of ribs, chicken wings, home-made sausage, fries, coleslaw and beans... and it was just £20! In fact including the starter and drinks, the whole bill came to less than £35! CRAZY! So before our platter main, we ordered some nachos as a starter. You know what nachos as a starter tends to look like if you go somewhere like Chiquito etc... about 6 doritos with a blob of melted coagulation-dried cheese and some jalapenos on top. We... weren't expecting what we got from Smokies! We got a huge tray full of nachos, covered in nacho cheese sauce, freshly made guacamole, pineapple salsa, (you also get jalapenos, but we asked for them without) with side pots of guacamole and sour cream. It made me swear when it arrived. They were miles beyond the usual doritos-nachos starter you usually get. They were fresh, with perfect crunch, the salsa was fruity and fresh, the cheese was excellent, and it was incredibly moreish. We found ourselves even mopping up the tiny bits at the end with our fingers... thank god for that kitchen roll and wet wipes! Our main platter arrives just after a side portion of fries each. I ordered plain with pitmaster's salt, and my partner ordered cheeseburger fries from the specials menu, which was the same fries but with bits of burger meat, cheese, and chipotle relish! They came with really lovely fresh coleslaw, and what he says as some of the best beans he's ever had... beans with brisket mixed in! HEAVEN! The fries themselves were hot, crisp, and perfectly seasoned. Absolutely perfect. Then just as they arrived, we were brought out our platter! The owner I mentioned earlier then came over to us and explained to us fully about our platter, what meats were what, how the meats were prepared, down to information about the pink smoke ring on the brisket. It's really nice to see that amount of passion and enthusiasm go into food! This platter was excellent. The sausage was flavourful with a spice which didn't get you at first, but which snuck up behind you and slapped you in the fact afterwards! The chicken wings were so tender that you could suck the meat off the bones. The pulled pork was absolutely perfect, and the brisket was so tender that I swear it literally melted in my mouth. This is the best brisket I've had! Even the pickled cucumber provided was pickled by them in brine using the flavours from the smoker, and was described as a 'palate cleanser' as it was fresh and tangy. Really good! I could imagine it on a burger quite easily! There were also their own blend of sauces on each table comprising of a sweet BBQ sauce, American style mustard, and Louisiana style hot sauce. I imagine they were lovely, but as the meat itself was so amazing as it was provided, I really didn't get chance to try them as they weren't needed! Maybe next time! At the point I was about to try the ribs when the chef/pit-master came into the dining area, and was even introduced to us. When we talked to him about the quality of our meal, his enthusiasm and passion for the real deal of southern BBQ was evident, from how he does it and his smokers, to the difference between competition cooking and regular cooking. It was genuinely fascinating to hear, and as I said, a real
