I've tried Captain Custard twice this summer, and both experiences were wonderfully nostalgic, transporting me back to some of my favorite childhood ice cream choices. The first time around I ordered a chocolate-covered (giant) frozen banana with a sprinkles-crunchies combo reminiscent of a crunch cone from Dairy Queen. It was the perfect pizazz-y add-on to this "healthier" choice. As for the second time, I ordered a dirt worm sundae, which I haven't seen on a menu order since I was 10. I loved that combo of vanilla soft-serve, chunks of Oreo, hot fudge, and gummy worms. The only change I'd make would be a smaller portion of ice cream to even out the proportions. We were happy when Captain Custard reopened for the summer and went down to try one of their burgers. It was fantastic! They are made to order and come out hot off the grill, deliciously made with any toppings you like. Last time we tried the fries which were also hot right out of the fryer and they were also fantastic. We will definitely be going back soon! read more

We were walking along the harbor and I saw "FRIED PICKLE SPEARS" handwritten on a sign & knew I had to get me some. There's a $6 minimum to use credit card so I couldn't just get the pickles. So, I ordered fries too. The fries were fine, but the pickle spears were FIRE. They were right out of the deep fryer - so it was hot and beautifully breaded. What a wonderful place to grab a snack or a Coke. They have many things to choose from. I forgot to take a picture of the pretzel we ordered with a side of cheese, but it was pretty good. They have custard of course. Plenty of Picnic Tables to sit at. They also have a small outside bathroom! Clean, reasonably priced, great for a family! Stopped by for some shaved ice! I was sorely disappointed. Shaved ice has a fine and fluffy consistency, whereas theirs is like a snow cone: crunchy granules like a slushee. Very rude service here!!!! I asked The elder lady for a lid to cover my icecream Sunday we just bought to bring to my husband and it was DOWN pouring I had to bring it through the rain. She lied to me and said they dont have any lids like I'm that dumb to believe. They sell large sodas a lid would've fit perfectly. Bad bad service waste of money! This place is so underrated!! We are new to town and have tried just about every other ice cream place here that is listed on Yelp. I actually didn't see this one on Yelp but came across it while we were on a walk. Tonight while there for the umpteenth time, I decided to take some pictures to put on here. They have AMAZINGLY CREAMY soft serve for me and hard ice cream for my husband. They even have a pup cup for our Charlie pup! It's all at a good price for Grand Haven too. You'll have to park above it and walk down the ramp or the stairs to the "food court" - so yummy and has a great view! read more

Food was okay. I liked my hamburger and my husband said the brats were like he expected a boiled brat to taste. I was thankful they had a diverse menu for a seasonal walk up restaurant. But they were unmotivated in getting the food out. I was third in line for food (not ice cream) when I walked up, but waited nearly 30 minutes to just have my order taken. Then I waited another 10-15 minutes for my food to be ready. Perhaps they were short staffed as the young man who took my order would prepare some food in between taking orders. I would think on a holiday weekend they would have been hustling in the back but instead as I stood at the window watching them I was reminded of the sloths in the movie Zootopia. read more

The custard here is amazing! It has very good ice cream for very good prices. The people there are really nice and it has great service.

They had a good price on a decent pulled pork sandwich and bag of chips with drink. All that was for 7 dollars. Also I just had ice cream i would reccommend it over any other place in the boardwalk. read more
