We've been coming to Captain A's since the Patronis brothers opened the restaurant in 1967. Coming here is like a homecoming of sorts. So many of the servers have been here for 25 years or more, like our favorite server, Kerim. Service is always exceptional, as is the food. I always order the stuffed shrimp and it is dependably delicious. The crab meat stuffing is tasty and the shrimp is perfectly grilled. Tossed salad with blue cheese dressing and baked potato round out the meal. And don't forget the best hush puppies you'll ever have. There are now many restaurants in PC Beach, but none have the provenance of Captain A's. The restaurant is cozy, warm, and inviting, with lovely views of the Bay and the deep sea fishing boats. Upon entering we were rudely greeted. I'm easy going but the lady at the front desk insisted that our group of eight be there to be seated.... Didn't ask us, just said.... We were all there waiting for her to get off the phone. Maybe she was just having a bad day. Food felt manufactured like you'd get at a theme park. Mains and sides came on separate plates, for the price you would expect better plating. And the oddity was the security guard with a vest that stated such. He stared at our table the entire hour plus we were there. Mind you, there were four 50 somethings and a couple college kids. No need for security. The She Crab soup was tasteless! No flavor or seasoning! I had way better She Crab soup at the Wharf Buffet and they should find their recipe. The Calamari was tender but so greasy and salty that it wasn't good at all and we only ate maybe 4 pieces. The server took it away knowing but didn't even ask if we didn't like it or offer to take it off the bill so we didn't say anything and paid for it anyways. Ruth Chris Steakhouse Calamari with Asian sweet chili sauce and peppers is so much better, they should find the recipe for it! 2 of us got the Fried Catfish and it was the Best Catfish we had ever ate so that was good! There were four in our party and we had heard that the restaurant was quite an "experience." Indeed it is. Our server Iesha was very attentive and considerate--keeping me away from anything with onions in it. I ordered a shareable appetizer--calamari, which had both marinara and a "volcanic" sauces with it. I thought the calamari was a bit overcooked but the sauces were tasty. There were very large cheesy rolls and they were delicious. I got bay scallops, my daughter ordered ceviche, and our dining partners ordered shrimp platters. My daughter also ordered a coffee-flavored cocktail, which was delicious. All of us enjoyed our meals. There's a gift store with beautiful glasswork and jewelry, and other gifts, and a pastry shop! I cannot say enough good things about Anderson's! Sat right away in this HUGE restaurant. There was so much to see and it was a cool ambiance!! Jeedo was our waiter and he was knowledgeable about the menu and we started with the crab soup and a Greek salad. Both were exceptionally great!!! I got the mahi mahi while my husband got the scamp. I had a nice family dinner at Captain Anderson's this week. I'm local -- I've been coming to Captain Anderson's for at least 10 years. We always come back because the food is pretty good. It is what you would expect from an upscale seafood restaurant in Panama City Beach. We were a bit surprised (and I seemed to have forgotten about) the plethora of surcharges they added to their menu. Changing sides was a surcharge. The advertised prices were cash-only.... credit card use was a 3.5% surcharge. Sharing food was a $3 surcharge. It really minimized our experience. read more

We recently dined here from out of state. When we walked in the front entrance, there was an older woman playing on her phone at what looked to be the main host stand. She barely looked up at us and made it seem like we were bothering her. She told us to talk down the hall to the back. Once we did, everything was lovely. We encountered a man there who directed us where to go, and we were seated almost immediately. Our server was good, the She Crab soup was amazing, and the rest of our food was also good. However, the main woman working at the front table was a huge turn off and is likely not helping the restaurant at all. If she isn't part of the staff for the restaurant, there needs to be more signage or clear directions on where to go, as I'm sure many people are dining here for the first time. read more

We were super disillusioned by our visit tonight, Tuesday 4/21/26. Looking for some fresh seafood in upscale atmosphere. Here in Panama City Beach from Michigan. Ate at Grand Marlin 2 nights ago and it was fantastic! Expecting the same here at Cap'n Andersons. Bar staff was friendly and accommodating, got there 7:30 and had to wait at the bar. Finally got called to our table. waitresses name was Haley F. She was pushy from the get-go cause they close at 9 and she apparently wanted to get out of there. However, not our problem. I heard another waiter a couple tables down being very polite and respectful to his table. We ordered charred jumbo shrimp and seared scallops, $26 and $44! Ordered the She-crab soup at an up charge and it was bland, needed salt, spices and sherry. She brought rolls to the table that were rock hard, uneatable. Hush puppies were dried out and tasteless and we both got collard greens, the nights special which were soooo salty, again, not eatable. Hubs finished his shrimp and scallops but I couldn't by this point, so disappointed. When she came with the bill, I showed her how hard the rolls were and the hush puppies and she blew me off. Came back with the dessert tray to which I replied, lord no!! So her tip reflected her crappy demeanor, which we never leave less than 20% even on a breakfast tab! But she didn't deserve the $15 I left on $118! And I left her a note stating that she should find a job she really would like to do cause obviously this wasn't it ‍ Do yourself a favor and go to Grand Marlin, doesn't disappoint! read more

My husband's steak was seasoned perfectly, tender, and cooked exactly as ordered. Greek salads and hush puppies were excellent . The atmosphere was a nice addition to our vacation dinner. I went here with 4 friends, recommended by owner of 2 condos in the area. Took about 10 minutes for server to get to us and when he did he talked so fast and in such a hurry ,didn't get his name but I don't think (could be wrong on that) he gave us his name. My check was separate and ordered scallops with red skinned mashed potatoes and a glass of wine. The others ordered also. What I got was shrimp with potatoes. I let the waiter know and he said "sorry" and took it away., I also ordered another glass of wine at that time.My friends, of course started eating their food. 10 minutes later I did receive the scallops without the potatoes this time!!! No sorry , just left. Someone else did bring potatoes 5 minutes later and wine came another 5 minutes later. Meanwhile my friends were very close to being through eating and of course eventually waiting on me so I felt hurried because I didn't want them to have to wait. I did decide to talk to manager, ANNA, she was standing at entrance with at least 3 other employees and I told her the situation. Her response was sorry, could have been this or this, whatever... not my problem. All I know is we were All inconvenienced. She stated she couldn't comp a glass of wine which I already knew, I am aware of the laws! I said I feel I should be compensated in some way, I was totally willing to pay partially..She , ANNA refused to do anything except say sorry and lean against the wall... oh she did offer dessert which I did not want. I went back to table and server was there , he had already taken other friends payment.. I immediately put my credit card down, which he could have taken then. He chose to leave and i waited another 5 minutes for him to return which he never did after 5 minutes and my friends had left rather table so I left enough cash to cover bill. Horrible service and the manager.. just wow.. ANNA!! By the way I expected decent size , maybe 5 or 6 tender scallops .. received 15-20 small tough ones. Place is way overpriced and overrated plus service was terrible and manager ... not sure why she was there . Apparently 2 other managers as I called also when I left to find out her name. This is still one of my favorite restaurants to go to in PCB. I've been coming here since 2015, and eat here every time we come down. You will have to wait a little bit because they don't take reservations; however, they move pretty fast. We had about a 15 minute wait on our most recent trip. Their bread service is really good. They give you a basket of fresh warm fluffy rolls. I ordered the grouper imperial, which is my normal go to. I upgraded my soup to the she crab soup. I was too full for dessert this time, but we didn't leave disappointed. They also bring out a heaping plate of hush puppies with every meal for the table. read more

I'm going to give this places a 4.7 star in my book. It was nice, do not get me wrong, however, they are going for a high class restaurant and they could do better in a few ways. Our waiter, I hope was just new, talked so fast and quiet that you couldn't hear him over the very loud restaurant. However, the food was delicious. As pictured we started with a wedge salad which I had no regrets of. Then I got the 3 Cheese Shrimp and Grits. It was amazing. The Seafood platter was good as well but typical seafood except he stuffed crab which was ok good but different. I'd probably get something different next time because if the other entrees are as good as the grits, I want to try them all! I will say, we did wait almost an hour for our seats. Have been dining at Cape Anderson's since the 80's. Always enjoyed it, but the passing of the original brothers and their head chef has provided a decline. The broiled whole flounder was mealy not flakey (overcooked or not fresh) and the sautéed blue crab claws were very large but had little taste (too big for fresh local this time of year). Something is amiss, maybe the kids will eventually get it together - I certainly hope so. read more

Excellent waitress!! Excellent food! Wait time 15 minutes and nice gift shop to tool around in while waiting. Loved the decor and music. We got Parmesan oysters to start, then the plate they're known for with lobster, shrimp, muscles, grouper and two sides. Thought grouper tasted a little fishy but everything else was great! she she crab bisque, cheesy grits, really yummy biscuits, fried jumbo shrimp. We enjoyed it all! Captain Anderson's is a PCB staple and family tradition which keeps me coming back every year, despite it maybe not being the best deal out there. For a purely objective review I'd give it 3 stars, but my personal bias gives it one more. The biggest thing is they are really expensive for what you get. The seafood is super fresh and there's lots of options which is great, but it's really not anything super special. Most (all?) menu items lack creativity and the extra "oomph" of quality and flavor that you'd expect for a $40+ item. Servers are always nice and do a fantastic job of keeping things moving-that's no small feat! The ambiance could be viewed positive or negative depending on how you look at it. Captain Anderson's basically hasn't changed for the last 30 years, which gives it a somewhat worn out look and feel. However, this lends itself to the rustic ship feel they are going for, so it actually sort of works. read more

We had a 15 minute wait for a table at 5:30. The menu hasn't changed much if at all in 5 years. The table ordered grilled chicken breast, shrimp Alfredo and grilled whole pompano. One kid had a burger. Sides included fries, mashed potatoes and broccoli. Everyone ordered a salad to start. Two kids split an ice cream sandwich on chocolate chip cookies for dessert. The servers are professionals. Very friendly and efficient. Only complaint was the pompano were on the small side and the cheeseburger was pretty peppery for an 8 year old. Everyone here is super nice but unfortunately someone in my party had extreme stomach issues after dining here. The lobster in the sampler platter was rotten and he didn't realize it. He was on the toilet for the entire night, including going to vomit twice while we were dining there. The rest of us were fine as we didn't order the lobster. Highlights are definitely the crab claws, cocktail shrimp, and crab cakes. Crab cakes didn't have any filler and were heavily seasoned. Cocktail shrimp were juicy and large. Crab claws were covered in brown butter and lemon so they were heavenly. For the prices you're paying, I don't ever expect to get sick from the seafood served. read more

My husband and I visited this restaurant while on vacation in the area. The ambience in the restaurant is very traditionally nautical. It is a quite large restaurant and has so many museum-quality photos and other items on display I really wanted to walk around. There is a separate 'lounge' bar which is very nice as well. The menu is mostly seafood options, but the other items (tomahawk steak) is quite impressive. The wine list is lengthy, and with at least 2 full bars cocktail possibilities are endless. Our servers name was Michael, and he was excellent. He was very attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. Our food was served quickly. I started with a cup of she-crab soup. Being from SC I'm a bit of a snob for Charleston-style she-crab soup. This was different. It was more the taste and consistency of potato soup with crabmeat. I missed the sherry and hint of tomato and spice if the Charleston variety. Entrees typically are served with a salad and one side. Don't miss the bread basket, and then when our meal came we got a plate of delicious hushpuppies. Best hushpuppies ever. Crunch when you bite, but hit and fluffy inside. My husband ordered the fried shrimp, and was delighted with it. His baked potato was completely done, which is great! I hate being served with a hard half-baked potato. I ordered the seared sea scallops and they were absolutely delicious. They were cooked to perfection and covered with a light, buttery sauce that did not compete with the scallops. Brussel sprouts were excellent. We arrived late and so we did not have a lot of time for dinner and we did not have dessert. Maybe will go back and have dessert later! read more

After visiting here more than ten times, I've been wowed by the experience every time. But there are shades of gray in the most colorful paintings, and I want to clarify what makes Captain Anderson's such an amazing place to eat. Firstly, what's so great about Captain Anderson's? Quite simply, it's a great place to grab a fresh taste of Panama City when you want it. What's not to love with your choices between all the kinds of seafood? There's flounder, shrimp, and crab, alongside many other delectable dishes. I recommend their Sauteed Crab Fingers because they're "finger licking" good. (Okay, I'll show myself out now.) And don't be distracted by all the fish in the sea- the steak is spectacular too! Unfortunately, even if the seafood is legendary, it's quite expensive. Expect to walk out with a lighter wallet if you want to see (and eat) the best of Captain Anderson's menu. Additionally, the wait times can sometimes be quite long since the establishment doesn't allow reservations, but if you arrive at the right time (around 5:00, I've found) you can be seated within 10-15 minutes! The wait staff, for the most part, is on point with their efficiency and friendliness. (Except for a waiter the party had once, Cory J, who was more of a down-to-business guy.) The dining area is majestic and breathtaking. The light fixtures, the artwork, the upside-down canoes in the Port-side room... all of it is very pleasant to look at. And the windows look out onto the marina, which is a fun sight in and of itself! The two dishes I usually eat here are the Surf & Turf ($36, but it's an amazing amount of food) or the Sauteed Crab Fingers mentioned earlier. If you're overwhelmed by the amount of choices you're presented, how about giving one of these recommendations a try? Overall Captain Anderson's is a restaurant you can't miss in Panama City. Time after time it's proven to be some amazing seafood, and my opinion of it only continues to improve. Give it a try, you won't be let down! read more

Have been coming here once a year for years on our family vacation and always have a table over 10 each time. Service is always great and have never had an issue with any waiter or waitress myself! Although some changes over the years has ultimately brought Capt Andersons down such as the surcharge for an additional basket of bread along with portions being a bit small for me. Only giving two stars because we did not have a wait and the server, Felicia, was great. I got the broiled seafood platter and the scallops and shrimp were so rubbery and hard to even eat, but after dipping in cocktail and tarter I was able to get them down. I chewed down on several pieces of shells when trying to chew the scallops. The portions were very low for the price. As for the grouper, I love grouper, however, I could not even eat this grouper. I had to verify with the waitress that it was actually grouper because it did not taste like any grouper I've had before. The only thing on the platter I enjoyed was the deviled crap (which I did not receive on my platter initially, however, our waitress and was great and got it for me right away.) Mac & Cheese off the kids menu was a $1 box of Kraft Mac & Cheese for $10 and no side. Don't get me wrong, my kids loved it, but for $10 I was expecting more and/or lower price for the Kraft. We don't mind to pay $$$ for good food, but this was simply not good food, especially for the price. My husband got the platter as well, but fried. He said his was okay, but mine was way less than okay. Much better options for seafood lovers in PCB. So disappointed. read more

I've come here multiple times throughout my life. Captain Anderson's is THE classic, old school "nice" seafood place in PCB. We arrived and they seated us at the window facing the marina, nice touch. Friendly service. I ate here maybe 20 years ago and it seemed sort of "meh" at the time. My expectations were modest this time. I was pleasantly surprised with how great it was. I had the Pompano, Greek style. A whole grilled fish--outstanding. Crispy seared skin, juicy, flaking fish. Perfect. Served with Greek salad and new potatoes. My daughter had 1/2 Broiled Florida Lobster stuffed with crab. Loved it. Most of the entrees were in the $30 range and included bread, salad, sides, etc. Not bad these days. read more

The server Dylan talked fast but he had a lot to say and our party was 10 in number. Those who had followed his suggestion for entrees were quite happy with their selection and the delicious food. My wife had the grouper Imperial which she said was absolutely delicious. I had the crab stuffed flounder which was grilled to perfection but the problem I had with it was the crab stuffing was more stuffing than crab. Certainly they were fairly quick at bringing everything out once they had got our original cocktails and wine to us. With the openness of this large dining room which overlooks the marina and the number of people who were surrounding us, it was indeed loud. I was not that impressed with my flounder based upon what I stated above but would that keep me from coming back again? No, as everyone else seemed quite happy with their selections and their food.
